One year ago today we lost our beloved Archie.
Archie was a black and tan true standard. He was big, sweet and handsome. He had a wonderful way of stealing hearts, everyone who met him loved him.

He was one of my foster dogs. I knew it might take him awhile to find a home. Everyone wants a young miniature dachsund. Not many people want to adopt a 41 pound 12 year old (he later slimmed down to his ideal 35 pound weight).

Within a week I had fallen for him hard. After a couple of months we knew we could never let him go, and started saving money toward his adoption fee.

Archie lived with us for two years and three months. If he had been ours his entire 14 years it would not have been enough.

Here are some photos of the big guy. Be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom--I saved the best for last!

Archie loved being outdoors:

Archie liked to roll and slide down the slope in our back yard:

I know that Archie left his spirit behind with you and he is waiting at the bridge to rejoin you. He was ansolutely gorgeous! So few people appreciate the temperment of the standards!

Every time I see a standard dachshund, I wonder what we did to the breed by making them smaller. Archie was beautiful. We love standards here. Don't get me wrong, I love my two AND I can carry them both at the same time because of their sizes, but the standards are special.

I know Archie is at the Bridge waiting for you. :hugs1: :hugs1: to you and I'm sorry for your loss.

What a wonderful, beautiful boy you had. I'm so glad you had him in your life for two year, its a shame it couldn't have been for longer. But I'm sure he had very happy last years! Thank you for sharing the memories! :hugs1:

Arch was so handsome. I agree with Sir Olivers Mom, although I love my mini very much I often wonder if we do the breed justice by breeding them smaller. I had always been a dachsund fan, and the standard is what I remember seeing, when I was growing up. I can just picture him rolling down your hill, how amusing that must have been.

OMG he is STUNNING, Gorgeous, and I would of fell for him in a heartbeat too.
I always remember growing up that it was standards I seen.
I still get chills when I see the true standards.
They have no idea of their size and really love to be part of the family. If we ever went camping without Kamper, I know for sure, we would come home to a house totally torn apart. That temper...
Thank you so much for sharing that gorgeous man with us.
He will be waiting for the one day when you all meet up again, at the Bridge.
