Charlestons dog bed was not good enough, so in Charlie style he has taken the Futon in my room. If Kitty even thinks about putting a paw on it the chase will be on :fierce: .

both Mickey and Junior sleep in their own crates at night .. knowing Mickey if left out to roam in the apt at night is a playground for him and both will sleep with a blanket :)

Our full size bed is barely big enough for two humans, and Tasha's a bed/couch hog. She has her own new cot bed, which keeps her off the floor.

they sleep in their crate - but not because they are little brats :) they are good girls. They have always been in their crate together at night or when we are gone (it is a large crate).

At night Solo & Bacca each sleep in their own doggie beds beside our bed - and during the day they sleep wherever they fancy, the favourite spot being the couch! :D

Charlie sleeps in his crate, but not because he's a little brat! He's slept in the big bed a few times, but I just don't get as good a night sleep with him there. He takes up too much room! Hmm...I guess maybe that does make him a brat!

Clay sleeps in the big bed (usually up right next to Mommy like a little human).

In the past Rocky was just someone's "dog" so he does not like the big bed *yet* we've now got him to the point he's in the recliner next to my side of the bed.

I have blankets on the bed for them and they still take mine. Of course I have two that have to sleep right next to me and cuddle up close. Thank God for central air! :sleep004: :sleep004: :sleep004: :sleep004:

In the bed. Blue likes to curl up by my side, buried underneath the sheets.
Lady Bug sleeps at the end of the bed. I think that she is in a protective mode, when she does that. Daisy has got her trained to get up in the middle of the night, to check things out around the house. But i do not sleep well, if my blusie isnt beside me.

Because the boys hike thier legs on my furniture all 3 sleep in a bed in the kitchen, with a gate across the dining room but they have a doggie door that they have access to the outside, only when it is extremely cold or hot will they do their job on the kitchen floor and sometimes when they are ****** at me if they think I have ignored them which is very very rare.

Mine sleep in a big commfy doggie bed next to my bed, under a blanket......until about 5 AM than its potty time and when we come back they get to sleep in the big bed. Gateway has tried the potty fake out at around 2 AM trying to get in the bed as soon as possible. However Isaac (husband) yells for him to go to his bed and surprisingly he listens.

When they do come to bed. Gateway burrow's down to the foot of the bed, and Daphne wants to sleep on my tummy, after a good long pet, she goes back to sleep snuggled up right next to me. Above the covers of course so she can be the first to see any thing unusual that needs barking at.

Fletcher sleeps in his crate with door open shut off in my bedroom during the day, and sleeps with me in my bed at night. He likes to get midway or totally at foot of bed. I wonder how they breathe under the covers.

All my other dogs have slept in crates until they were completely potty trained. Then they were given a choice. NOW I KNOW THAT THIS WILL SURPRISE YOU! Heidi slept in her crate for ONE NIGHT. The next night, she yipped until I simply took her out and put her in the bed with me. She curled up on my neck and has slept there ever since. Lizzy sleeps with us too, but she did have to wait several months. It amazes me, but Heidi has always gotten her way! I wonder why? Could it be the LOOK?

Olana sleeps in the big bed, but it's only because she's so cute and we miss her when she's not with us!! lol!! Sometimes we do put her in her crate, though. She doesn't mind either place. It's so cute when she's in the bog bed and she wakes us up in the morning so she can go potty. She just LOVES snuggling in the morning.

So odd, Same here! I had Julius (Romie hadn't even been born then) sleep in the crate until he was potty trained, then gave him a choice. He [obviously] chose the big bed. :D But with Romie, I played the sap and let her sleep in the big bed with us almost immediately. The whole "tough love" thing wears off after the 2nd doggy I think.

I selected "The Big Bed", because Skeeter and Boone sleep on the big bed every night. Leopold sleeps wherever he wants, be it the floor, the expensive Nautica duvet cover that Kevin tosses on the floor at night, one of his own little beds (he has one in almost every room), the recliner or sofa, or sometimes even in the big bed. Leopold is a dog of many beds.

My king size bed is really to small for everyone. Radar, Yorkie, sleeps against my back, Dasey Mae, sleeps at the end of the bed on top of the covers, my hubby on his side and Rosey and I are all tucked up together on my side. At times I have all those in bed along with 2 grandchildren, their baby doxie and Faith their 150 # Mix inbetween all of us. One night this last weekend Tom came into the bedroom and everyone was in bed and he just turned around and went to the other bedroom. I had to get Faith, the really big dog, out of the bed so he could come to bed. I don't know what his problem was we had 5 children and there were times when all of them and their pets were in bed with us and he did just fine. I have caught him in bed with Rosey with her all tucked up in his arms sound asleep. Cheryl

Isabel sleeps in her crate because she used to be a little brat. LOL When her older buddy died this spring and then my Mom moved in and took my bed and I moved to the couch, I left Isabel in her crate because of lack of room.

All three of mine sleep in the big bed with me. They have their two thirds and I have what is left. I usually wake up clinging to the edge of the bed to keep from falling out but I wouldn't have it any other way.
The happy good morning ear flappies, the kisses, the tummy rubbies- what a great way to begin a day. They don't jump on or off the bed- ever. They crawl under the covers, go to sleep and sleep all night. Usually from about 10:30P to 8Am.
If one of them has an upset or a problem during the night- I get awakend very smartly to attend to it but that doesn't happen very often.

This made me laugh, because we thought we were the only weird people that have their puppers sleep with them! :dizzy: Sophie sleeps in the big bed right by my side. Sometimes I roll over and smash her, she doesn't mind though? Brutus use to sleep with us in the big bed under the covers at the bottom, but now since he is older he sleeps on a very comfy bed right below me. :snooze: I'm still smiling...

Isabella used to sleep in the big bed with me, but for now she's banned for being a brat. If the cats come to bed first, she's fine, but if Isabella is there first and then a cat tries to jump on the bed, she's instantly a snarling, snapping little monster. Until she understands that she doesn't own the bed, she's gated into the kitchen at night.

Oscar sleeps in his crate. When his new brother Topo Gigio gets here..we have a bigger crate that I'm hoping they will both like to sleep in together.

When I got Oscar - I got him a neat lamb's wool bed. For some reason - he thinks it's a big toy to play with and chew on!! He was dragging it around the house and I put it up before he destroys it. I will try again later when he's older. Maybe the new brother will show him what that bed is for!! :)

Our new puppy (10 weeks old) sleeps in her cage. She has a big dog bed that she loves to hang her head out of unpside down. Her cage is one of those large metal ones that's 4 feet by feet. We put it in the laundry room and put a plexi board that wipes clean under it. It works wonderfully. :D

Merry sleeps in the big bed and the boys sleep in their crates. On weekends they wake me up to be fed at the same time they are fed during the week.. so after they are done and I have checked DBB.. the boys are allowed up in the bed to nap for another couple of hours. When we travel and take the trailer they are all up in the bed with me... but on a regular basis we all sleep better with our home arrangement.

Adolph had always slept in the big bed with me, until we adopted Maxx.
Our bed is verrrrry high off the floor. Maxx had never been permitted to sleep any where except in his own bed and when he came to live with us, he expected to still sleep in HIS bed, which is fine with me! One doxie in bed stealing the blanket is enough. But then whenever Maxx makes any kind of noise at night, Adolph tries to JUMP off the bed to go see if brudder needs some help. I can't stand the thought that he might try to jump down sometime when I'm sound asleep and hurt himself! Therefore, they now have their own bedroom with two little beds side by side..Adolph cried the first night and I almost weakened...but since then, he has adapted well. Now when I tell the boys its nite-nite time, they both head for their room. The only time I have a problem with this arrangement is when Hoodad comes home (every two weeks) Adolph still expects to sleep with him and since hoodad is an old softie, he gets to sleep with us until Hoodad is asleep, then I carry Adolph to his beddy and tuck him in...all is well for the rest of the night.

Tricky quiz in our case.
Lucie will sleep at night in her bedroom crate but she sleep where ever she wants during the day, minus our bed.

See, we made a deal with the cats. Lucie has all our attention during the day and the cats at night, sleeping with us PLUS... Lucie has some trouble to accept she isn't an alpha so to make her understand, she's not coming in our bedroom, which for her is the alpha nest.

But... when we travel, because she's away from the "alpha home" and us the alphas should give protection to the pack... she will sleep in our bed and oh my that she's big taking all the place.

Oh and PS... Lucie's loves her bedroom crate full of blankets and it's also quite convenient to have her crate trained when we're away.

Coco & Shadow both sleep in their own crates, because that is their beds. And we all sleep better knowing they are safe. Coco started out sleeping in my bed and when I got Shadow he liked playing and moving around too much. My bed sits up way too high and I was constantly waking up to make sure they were safe. They both loved their crates from the start so all get a good nights sleep. :sleep004: :sleep004: :sleep004:

Ruben & Trencye slept in the basement on a dog bed until we had to figure out who was "wetting the bed." Turned out it was neither. Trencye pees on soft things when she's mad. :devil1: Anyway, we started letting them sleep in the big bed, and when we tried to switch back there was heck to pay. Ruben screamed like he was abandoned. :sob:
Since then, It's Trenyce under the covers (yeah, how does she breathe under there?), stretched out alongside me, but in the middle of the night she switches to sprawled on her back between our pillows.
Ruben curls up in the bend of my legs, and then switches to the bend of the man's at some point. If you make the mistake of lying on your back, he stretches out on top of you and stares in your face. :faint:
Then at 5:15 or 6:15 alarm time, Ruben stands on my chest for Mommy and Ruben time, while Trencye grumbles and hides deeper under the covers, as if she's using the snooze alarm. Ruben gets all his puppy belly rubs, scratch, kisses, and good mornings, then he's happy. Trenyce waits for Daddy to get home from his early morning workout to get up. :sleep004:

OK. Wagner, Precious, and Winnie sleep in the big bed with us. Scooter joins us if Kaylee sleeps in her bunk bed. If she sleeps on her futan (?SP) he sleeps with her. Max sleeps in his crate (he is an old man, blind and with arthritis. He isn't neutered, was a stray that we got last year, and pees all over the house. For some reason he takes his belly band off at night.) Fred sleeps under the big bed for awhile then goes to his bed (he used to sleep in the big bed until we got more doxies.) Buddy cat sleeps on my pillow at night (isn't afraid of doxies.) Hobie cat sleeps with her James. Nibbler and Nubby cat sleep on Kaylee's bunk bed. Grrr kitty sleeps wherever she wants... my closet or with Noah. I think I got all the pets?

He usually sleeps in the big bed. On weeknights, my fiance and Oscar often fall asleep together on our couch. One at a time, each of them eventually wakes up and comes up to the big bed. I wake up later than my fiance and by then, Oscar is in the bed with me. I always thought that Oscar comes to the big bed only after my fiance leaves for work, but my fiance tells me that Oscar gets upstairs hours before that.

Joey and Toby sleep in the big bed (although we'll probably get a bigger bed eventually as two dogs and two cats and two people is a bit much). Joey's all about trying to sleep right between John and I, but lately he's been sleeping under the covers once in a while... again, snuggled right up close to me. Toby likes to snuggle up on the other side of me, head on my chest.

the first night. Decker cried :sob: , mom gave in :uh-oh: , it's been the big bed from then on. :weee: He started out sleeping curled around my head on my pillow. Now he sleeps under the covers near the bottom (really! how do they breathe?!?) sometimes. Most times he tries to sleep between us but I put him on my side & then he sneaks between us after we are asleep. When DH alarm goes off every morning, Decker gets up & lays across his neck to keep him from getting out of bed!!!! It is so cute!!! He is the best thing to wake up to every morning!! Never grumpy!! :grrr:

Max is right up in the big bed as soon as I show that it's time for bed. He usually beats me there. Now Lillie on the other hand, sleeps on her big bed in the living room for awhile, then at some point during the night comes and gets in the big bed. I usually wake up to the two of them fighting for who gets to sleep splat up against mommy. Lillie wins most of the time. But I believe that they have learned the concept of sharing, because I can wake up periodicaly through the night, and they will switch between laying between my knees and laying right next to me. They are just too sweet.

Petey sleeps with me on a queen size bed, so there's plenty of room. Once he makes his nest and settles down for the night, he's usually snuggled in against my side. Making the nest though, consists of tromping all over the bed and giving it a good sniff in case the scent has changed since morning, licking himself in a mostly ungentlemanly way  and usually circling my head a couple of times to see if I will go the extra step of letting him sleep on my pillow (NO). Just before finally settling in, he will throw himself across my body with a deep sigh a few times just to demonstrate how exhausted he is I guess. He is learning the meaning of "lay down and go to SLEEP!" :cheer:

I voted "other" because right now, there is a combination of crate/bed for Mud. He sleeps in the crate with the door open and a small fence surrounding it with puppy pads in it so he can go potty at night. He wakes up every hour or so, comes out of the crate and whines. But I just put him back in the crate and he goes back to sleep right away, it's funny! Once it gets light out, I just let him sleep on the bed and he sleeps really well there. Eventually he will sleep in the bed every night :)

We tried a crate - that lasted 2 nights (through screaming as if being tortured). We tried a puppy bed and he basically ate it - tore it to shreds. So, Otis has the big bed and boy can a little guy take up a lot of space burrowing under those covers, lol!

Winnie sleeps in her crate at night. We started that when we first got her and since it works, we have kept it up. My husband is an early riser and will then let her out of the crate and following a potty break, she has a bed in our kitchen that she resumes her beauty sleep on. Can't give her too much freedom yet, as she is an absolutely pest to her "sisters."

Both of my girls sleep in the "big bed!" Gretchen has a towel at my feet on top of the comforter - when the comforter is folded down it covers her.

Pepper sleeps under the blanket either right at my feet (she usually uses one as a pillow) of at my side. Her main thing is to be touching me. Occasionally I've rolled over & hit a wet nose on my pillow - or I've been awakened by her breathing in my ear.

Nestle used to sleep under the covers against my side.

We has a king size waterbed, & the girls really love the warmth that bed provides -- especially in the winter.

I put other because Chance sleeps in the crate, but not cuz he's a brat, just because thats the only time I get alone with my fiance (he works all day) so even if I'm sleeping, I still want my time. Couldn't pick the crate one even though she sleeps in a crate because she isn't a little brat! She is only 12 weeks and we are still training so she will sleep in there until she is trained and then one day have her own doggie bed and probably end up on the bed with us sometimes. she does get a few minutes in our bed AFTER she has pottied for the night. Then she goes to her crate and goes to sleep nicely.

Big bed all the way! I'm a wimp about super-sonic hound dog screams. Soooo I caved in on day one, and GingerSnap has been sleeping on the big bed ever since. Between the 8 pound baby Dachshund and the 20 pound Maine Coon Cat it's a wonder there's any room for me...it's only a twin size bed! LOL

What can I say, I like cuddling my critters. Actually, I've slept so much better since GingerSnap has been here than I ever did before, not waking up as often and falling asleep a lot faster. Apparantly the cure for my insomnia is puppy snores.

SamsonsDad
05-24-2007, 07:21 AM
Samson sleeps in the big bed next to me, buried under the sheets. We tried the crate at night thing, and it wasn't gonna fly. Major reason is we live in a condo, with 2 neighbors upstairs and one across the hall. I could not rightfully subject them all to that flurry of yelping, crying, howling that Samson would do for hours and hours and hours and hours. After a couple weeks sleeping on the floor trying unsuccessfully to calm him down enough to sleep, I gave up and brought him in the big bed. Ever since then it's been wonderful. He sleeps thru the night brilliantly. In fact, he hates it when I have to get him up at 6am (when i get up for work). He'd rather sleep in till 9. Lazy little guy.

Taking him into the big bed was the best thing I ever did though. Minis don't take up much room and they keep you cozy warm in the winter. It's a win-win.

I picked other. I don't like the view that dogs in crates are there because they are bad. My dogs have crates because they are SAFE. Skyler sleeps in my bed until he bugs me with all his little moving around stuff, then he goes to his crate. Jesse may NEVER be a bed dog. I have a feeling that if we give him an inch, he'll take the whoooooooooooooooole mile.

Oscar and Callie sleep in their crates without door on at night. They are in the kitchen at night with the gate closed to the rest of the house. Our bed is too high for them to sleep with us at night. During the day they have a doggie door to the fenched yard and fleece doggie blankets on a recliner by the window for squirrel watching. There is a bed at the end of the hall for them if they want to be near us in that part of the house. At the computers, we have two beds for each of them to be near us.

Kia and Brawt sleep in their large crate most nights in their own bedroom, but they do sleep in the big bed on occasion as well. They have shared a crate since we got them as puppies. If we separate them in different crates, they cry until they are back together. :hearts:

We have a dog bed in the living room, but neither of them will even lay on it. It's still essentially new after a year. Both prefer the couch under a blanket if we're in the living room.

Puppy sleeps with me (lap) till I go to bed around 1am then I put him in his crate (closed door) after he does some biz outside. He likes it no complaints has always slept there from first day home. So why fix what isnt broken.

The other guy follows me into the bedroom sleeps in a bed there for a bit then he can be found in living room in his crate /den (open doors ) where he sleeps the night away I think. He has free roam of the house 24/7.

I picked other. I don't like the view that dogs in crates are there because they are bad.

Same here, daionara! We crate-trained Maddie from the get-go. When she knows it's time to sleep, she BOLTS for her crate! Sometimes she goes in there prematurely and I say, "No, Maddie, it's not time for bed yet!" Ha ha!

On Maddie's first night home we tried to have her sleep in her crate by our bedside so that she'd feel like a member of our pack. She had a blankie from her mom, brother and sisters for comfort and I even put a ticking clock just outside the crate to remind her of her mom's heartbeat. But she just whined and whimpered. After an hour we finally put her (in her crate) in the guest bedroom. Of course she fell asleep eventually. Since then she's slept in her crate downstairs. It's difficult to get over the first few nights of whining, but crate training is SO worth it in the long run!

Some weekend nights Maddie will get to sleep with us in the big bed, but ever since she's gotten brave enough to jump down on her own those nights are far and few between! :)

I chose other, because although he sleeps in his crate ever since he was 8 weeks old (2 and a half now) it's certainly not cuz he's a brat. It's because its nice and quiet and cozy.:D

Sadie actually has her own bed in our room but she sleeps pretty much everywhere in the house all day long... she is a big lug when her daddy isn't around. But the minute he gets home she takes all that pent up energy and unwinds!!!!:stars:

At night Charlie and Sammie sleep in the big bed, under the covers. During the day they either lay on their doggy bed, or on the sofa under the blanket.

Sammy sleeps in a crate because he marks everything (were getting him fixed soon) and Macy sleeps in crate because she pees in the bed in the middle of the night. :pull_hair:

At night he sleeps in his crate (because he LOVES it and it's like his own little den - not cuz he's a brat) and during the day he naps wherever he wants! Sometimes in his open crate, sometimes in his doggie beds, usually on the bare floor though-he seems to prefer that!

Hercules sleeps at the foot of the bed, but occassionally he needs some mom and brudder time so he joins us on the big bed for naps
