I knew I was getting him as a gift from a friend who raises dachshunds from the time he was bred so I kept track of his progress from day 1. I couldn't wait for him to get old enough to bring home but the day finally came. He swiftly became head of the household and had our hearts from the beginning. He loved to hunt rabbits and squirells and his passion was to fetch a tennis ball. He had us for a short four years when his life came to an end as a result of a snake bite that was too much for his little 9 pound body to handle. I miss him terribly and have gotten a mini black and tan female since his death. There will never be another Casey ,,but Gracie is helping me to pass the time by. I still miss him everyday, but Gracie is like him already in lots of ways. Thanks for letting me use your shoulders.. I really appreciate it.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss!
I, too, lost a red mini smooth male about two months ago. A few days later I bought Sadie, my mini tan and black smooth. She's been a real joy to our lives and is incredibly smart. She has really eased the pain of losing Basil, as I'm sure Gracie will be a big comfort for you too. Sadie sends lots of doggy kisses, and wags her tail hello to Gracie http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

Sorry to hear your loss. I lost 2 (Schnopps & Patty) to coyotes this March and understand how it hurts. My husband surprised me with a new pup shortly thereafter on my birthday and he helped with the pain. Then we acquired another, then another then 2 more. So now we have 5!

Tyanne,
We have rattlers here in the Pacific Northwest and I get really nervous every summer...

This year Wotan "found" one out in the yard on his nite Pee. He was barking and jumping around it and I panicked big time!

I'm sooo sorry Casey didn't survive. The Bridge will have another angel-to-be waiting for you.
