You have no idea how happy we are!!! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/bounce.gif We went to see Klaus on Friday night, he was the most precious little black and tan you've ever seen! He was a bit shy at first, but there were also 3 other dogs vying for attention too. Eventually, he plopped down by my husband's feet and let us pet him for a good while. My husband and I looked at each other, smiled, and asked the family if it would be okay if we came back Sunday morning to get him. We stayed a little longer talking to the family, who were very, very nice. We asked how he was on the leash and she said, "here, why don't you see?" she handed me the lease and little Klaus got SO EXCITED! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/jacks.gif He made this whimpering sound and was all over the place. I got the leash on him and we headed out. Lesson 1 learned: Klaus DOES NOT like rain. He hugged the wall of the house trying not to get wet, but I could see he loves his walks. We kissed him goodbye and headed out to the car, who should follow us? Klaus! He was ready to leave right then and there! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif
Saturday, we hit the pet store. He bought food, treats, toys, you name it, when we went to the register, the cashier said, "someone has a spoiled little dog" and we said "you know it!" http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/rolleyes.gif
Sunday, the big day. My husband was very nervous (he still is). He loved little Monty so much, and he is so scared that something will happen to this little guy. I know he'll get over it in time, but right now he is so cautious and fearful that he'll do something wrong (he feels a lot of guilt about Monty, though there's nothing he could have done). We got to the house and little Klaus came right out to greet us. I could see that his family was sad, so I tried not to prolong the goodbye, I promised I would send pictures and letters about Klaus. We headed towards the car and Klaus was right at our feet. Bill opened the car door and Klaus hopped right in! He was ready for his new life I think. He was good in the car, I held him (though he was a little squirmy), he likes looking out the window. We got to the ferry a little early, so we sat in a little park and everyone that walked by had something to say about our little cutie. We got on the ferry and Klaus was an angel, he drank some water, sniffed around, then fell asleep on my lap. Then we all got back in the car for the last leg of our journey and this time, a very tired Klaus got right in his little carrier crate and settled in with his blankie. Awwww.. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/angel.gif
When we got to our house, I took him right in back and let him sniff his new backyard, he had a little diarrhea but he seemed okay otherwise. After about 15 minutes, I brought him in the house and let him explore his new surroundings. He seemed to fit right in, he was already the king of his castle.
I have to say, I'm so proud of him, we haven't had one accident yet, he's gone outside everytime. We were so proud of him that when bedtime came, we brought him upstairs (thinking he could sleep in his little crate in the bedroom) but Klaus wasn't having that. He hopped on the bed and burrowed his way down to the bottom of the covers as if to say "okay, now where you you going to sleep?" We looked at each other and said, "okay, we'll try it" Well, my Klaus baby slept ALL NIGHT http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/sleep.gif and I checked the sheets this morning and not one trace of an accident. He got up this morning, Bill brought him outside, where he promptly did his business, and then he proceeded to eat all his food. I'm at work now and Bill is home, Bill said he whimpered when I left, but he's doing okay now.
This is so different from the last time, I can't believe it! I've never been happier! I love him So, SO much! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/love.gif I'm bringing him to the vet tomorrow just for a checkup and so they can start a file on him.
Thank you all so much for your help and advice! I think this (finally) is the right thing for us!
More adventures of Klaus later...

Kelly,
I am SOOOO happy for you! I think this was just the experience you needed. You have an immediate new best friend. He needed you both, you needed him...it was a match made in heaven! I just can't tell you how thrilled and excited I am for you and Klaus. I can't wait to hear more and more stories!

Congratulations,
I'm glad little Klaus has found a new good home. It's great that you and you husband stayed open to an older dog. I think I overheard Frank and Tanner muttering something about score one for DWD. I'm sure the three of you will have many happy years together. Nothing does more to heal a broken heart than the pater of four little feet and a few dachshund kisses. It sounds like little Klaus knew it was time he needed to move out and you were just what he needed.
Good luck,
Tom

I've called my husband 5 times already today. He told me stop calling because he has to keep getting up to answer the phone and it disturbs poor Klaus who is sleeping on his lap. Yeesh! I can't tell you what a relief it is to call and hear annoyance in my husband's voice instead of sadness and worry. That awful last day we had Monty, everytime I called I just prayed Bill would answer the phone in a happy voice to tell me he was fine, but it just got sadder and sadder. So I can handle Bill being annoyed with me, just as long as he tells me Klaus is doing okay.
I went to the pet store at lunch to get "just a few more" things. I had to! I bought a kiddie corral (aka Klaus corral) at Toys R Us. I've seen lots of people use them for their dogs as playpens for outside. I can't wait to get home tonight and see my baby!!!
Can someone tell me how to attach a picture? I would love to introduce Klaus to the world when I get my pictures back!

I'm so excited for you and Klaus!! Oh yeah, and your hubby too It all sounds so familiar, just like when I brought my little Owee home for the first time.
This is how you post a picture you type post the url here You need to upload your pictures to a photo album site online, I use Photo point. When you copy and paste the URL between the img brackets, don't put any spaces anywhere between the brackets and the url.
Here's Owen and his little buddies (Jimmie is standing up for his daddy) at the San Diego Dachshund Picnic last month. You can only see Owen's bootie though, but this is his pen that I use at home and it's a great thing!!

Klaus sounds like a real sweetie. I'm glad you found each other. Wheeler says to tell you that it is common knowledge that b&t smooths should not get wet as they are so sweet they would just melt away. He is looking forward to corresponding with Klaus on the DWD thread.

My eyes are teary from reading this wonderful and touching saga. I'm thrilled for you and there is no question that you are doing the right thing. They're only puppies for a short time - mostly we have adult dogs. He'll always appreciate that you rescued him and somewhere in his doggie subconscious mind he'll remember!
MM, I just went back to check your old posts & I don't know what was going on in my life at the end of April that I missed all about Monty - maybe I just couldn't handle the thread titles about sad news at that time. Anyway I'll bet Monty is smiling in extra special delight - I'm SURE he had something to do with choosing Klaus. Geez, now if I could only stop sobbing...

Wotan, who is partial to black and tans, welcomes Klaus. Nice German name, too!
The best part is that this happy ending was perfect for this story. Klaus is a lucky doggie.
Many dachsie kisses from Wo. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/facelick.gif

I believe that most everything in life happens for a reason, and you can be sure that Monty had something to do with the new love in your life. Klaus does not replace Monty, he just opens your heart for even more love and joy.
So happy for your new family!

Welcome Klaus!
I'm so happy that you found one another! Isobel picked me when I did not want another Dachsie in my life--but she had other ideas. It's a great feeling. isn't it, to be chosen and loved so much by these wee ones. I believe my Digger (who I lost after only having him less than a year--he was an older rescue boy and launched me into the wonderful world 'o dachsies) had looked for a Dachsie friend for me and he and Isobel worked it out so I wouldn't be so lonely and sad any longer.
Congrats Kelly, Bill and especially Klaus! Keep us posted with stories . . .

Klaus is doing great everyone. He's so snuggly at night, I just love how he curls up in a teeny ball at the bottom of the bed. He wakes me up every morning with kisses and a turbo wagging tail. He's becoming a little more independent, though it's still hard to walk into the other room without him jumping up and following us. I'm taking some vacation time to be with my honey, more when I return!

Ummmm...Ummm...,
I don't know how to tell you this but that little habit of following you EVERYWHERE is not merely a getting-to-know-you habit. Don't try to count the number of times he trips you - very good for reflex practice.

Kelly,
I can't tell you how absolutely THRILLED I am for you, hubby and Klaus!! What a sweetie he sounds like! And my Maddie sez...."Black and tans are the BEST!!" Her sissy, Dolly may not agree with that, however. Heee hee! I know all about having a dachsie or 2 or 3 on your lap and being interrupted by the telephone. My hubby Mark has learned that having a doxie on his lap can get him out of a lot of work too! I ask for a honeydo favor and what kind of response to I get? "Can't. Gotta dog on me and it would be traumatic to move her." http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/rolleyes.gif Glad Klause has found his forever home. What???? No pee pees in the house? I'm jealous. Sunny our foster STILL lifts his leg any chance he gets. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/bad-boy.gif
Have fun with Klaus and be sure to tell us EVERYTHING!!

My boys are terrible about lifting their legs on stuff here... u run around with a supersoakers squirting their little butts if i see them hike their leg then i push their lil fannies out the pet door... and they turn around and look at me like "What??" I on the average shampoo my carpet once a week ...lol I have had ppl tell me why dont u get rid of those dogs they are gonna ruin your house My response to that is well its my house to ruin and what better way to ruin it ...lol Im thinking about just tearing up the carpet in my house and putting down some of that parkay (sp) wood flooring... and getting throw rugs...lol it would be ALOT easier... http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif I am resigned to the fact that as long as im owned by one for more doxies im gonna have at least 1 or more accidents in here ...lol I dont care either...I love my dogs and wouldnt trade their little butts for anything ... would be nice if they NEVER has accidents or marked in the house but its something to strive for ... hey we all need goals ...huh!

Jen....
You are getting sleepy....sleepy...http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/sleep.gif
Now you are under hippopotomus, er, uh hypnosis. WILSON ART......WILSON ART!!! SNAP! You can open your eyes now.
We had almost our whole house done with this wonderful stuff! Only problem I have is SOMEBODY....and we won't mention any names here....still wants to pee on the throw rug. A bit of advice here. When choosing a throw rug, don't get an expensive one like we did for downstairs only to have our nice blue rug dotted in green and yellow. K-mart has great rugs CHEAP! We learned our lesson for upstairs...LOL.
