I have dilute smooth and longhair dachsies. I have used several different kinds of shampoos. Does anyone have a favorite one and why? I need gentle cleaning, no flea and tick ones. Thanks, Cathy

"Gee, your hair smells terrific" remember that one?
I used Johnson's Baby Shampoo on my long hair.

Any puppy shampoo will work. I use Crazy Dog's Baby Dog shampoo. It makes Timber's fritos smell like baby powder for a little while. It makes their coat nice and soft.

I use Veterinarian's Best on Sassy. She stared w/ the Baby Fresh shampoo/conditioner, and has now moved onto Honey & Vitamin E. I like this brand cause its all natural and the scent isnt too strong. LOL but this yuppie dog shampoo can sure get pricey!

I use Tear Free Puppy Shampoo by Tomlyn. It smells nice and fresh, not too feminine or too masculine either.
It is super gentle and works well for my guys.
As a final rinse, I add a capful of Avon's Skin So Soft bath oil to a Bucket of water and pour it over them. It works like a very light conditioner and repels bugs for a few days too.
Probably the best thing I do for my boys coat however, involves diet. I add either cold pressed flax oil, or fish body oil to my boys food each night. The raw Omega -3 fatty acids work wonders on dog's skin and coat. I use the concentrated capsules as they have less fat and calories to get the amount Omega -3s needed.

What is a dilute dachshund? CC refers to that in her original note?

Hi Heather!! Sorry for all the Comas in my original post (see revision). What I was trying to say is that I have DILUTE COLORED Dachsies. Without getting into that gene pool thing (atatBBdd or atatBbdd or Cch), all I can say is, I have Isabella and tan (diluted chocolate and tan) see Stormy in the photo album, she is an Isabella and tan dapple. Also, Smurfette is a blue and tan (also in photo album) Noel is a blue and tan dapple. Dilute refers to weakened/lighter shades of dominate color (red, Black and tan and chocolate and tan)with or without dapple. If a picture is worth a thousand words, you won't have to read too much to understand. Usually, a dilute color has weaker hair coat and has special grooming needs to maintain a good coat. That is why I mentioned they were dilute. Cathy
