Anyone know of a rescue contact in Charlotte, NC.? There is a 2 year old long hair male at a shelter needing rescue.
All I have right now is a phone number but am trying to get an email address.
Let me know here or via email:

You can look up contact information on the following web page: http://www.drwp.net/contacts.html It looks like the contacts listed for NC are all in Virginia but there are E-mail addresses listed.

Good luck,

Tom

I believe Tanya has posted this to the e-list for DRNA members. I think Kay will be the contact for North Carolina.

Thanks, Shelly. I presume you mean Kay Long. I hope she picks up on this. I will send an email her way. I will also do my best to follow up. He was an owner turn in.
Tom, appreciate. Have gone to that website before and notice that none of the rescue groups have bothered to post for residents in NC who are involved. Guess it is hard to cover all bases, all the time.
Hoped that Andrea could also pull a name out of a hat. Sometimes shelters are just too quick to put a dog down. Although most will tell you the smaller dogs are usually adopted and for that reason you often don't learn about the dachsies.

Shelly:
Been in touch with Kay. From her email to me she hadn't, as yet, been notified. Gave her the information and I'm waiting to hear back.
Also heard from April with CCDR, offering to help.
It is so encouraging that one message of need, on this board, gets such good response.
Thanks all,
Roxane

(Shelley, sorry that I keep leaving out the extra "e".)
*************************
Among friends and acquaintances I'm known as "The Last of the Great Communicators".
Therefore, I am always puzzled when in an exchange of information, some people fail to reply.
With regards to rescuing Harry, I created a circle of contacts to work on the problem. My only request was to keep me informed. If their efforts failed, I would go another route.
Not one of the people who indicated they would see what they could do, has replied. I have no way of knowing where we stand.
Even, in a like situation, if you are trying but not succeeding, please keep your original contact informed, for the sake of the dog.
How long can it take to post an email with a very short message?
I am not angry, just in a quandary as to what steps to take next.
Life is never simple,

Mhhhm Sorry about that Roxanne. At this point I am not sure which group has decided to take this one on. Most of us work and then try to sort through a pile of e-mails before bedtime. Is Kay the person you are in contact with as I have heard nothing on the list. I will re post and ask if anyone has been working on this one. Sorry if I have not been as attentive. If you read under General Health Concerns- Heartworm alert- you will see why.

I hope I can get some info back to you soon.

Andrea- are any of CCDR looking into this one?

Roxane...sorry about that. Shelley and I both emailed the DRNA list again today about this. Shelley asked for a reply so that she would know you were contacted. If possible, try to stay in contact with the shelter so you will know the status of the dachsie. If it comes down to the wire, let us know. I think someone from DRNA or CCDR would intervene before the fellow was put down. Hopefully you will get a reply soon. Please keep us informed and I'm sorry you are left not knowing what to do.

Hi Tanya:
As I understand it, Harry is with an all breed rescue gal. So there is no emergency as far as his being put down.
Hi Shelley: (see, I got that "e" in this time)
I just heard from Kay. She has no foster home at the moment but promised to do some begging.
To Both:
I furnished the information to both Kay with DRNA and to someone named April with CCDR. If one can't maybe the other can.
The fact that he is not in the shelter is great. It will be even better once he is with people who know, love and most of all understand dachsies.
Your replies have restored my enthusiasm, which was rapidly fading.
Thanks,
Roxane

Shelley,

Just a small note to say thank you for volunteering your time for the sweet doxies! We all have jobs, families, etc....and you manage to do all you can for the volunteer organization. My hat is off to you. I am trying to help by fostering one special boy, and that can be trying at times! Thanks to all who volunteer!!!!

Thank you for the kind words. I must admit today has been rough and I fear tomorrow will be rougher. If Minnie goes she will be the first I have lost and I never thought I would have to deal with that. I also want to add all those others on the board that donate their time and resources. I'm not sure if anyone has noticed but I believe our rescue/adoption page seems to get the most posts. I confess that I usually check in to the rescue posts only and every time I pop in our little lightbulb is glowing! Makes me proud to be a part of this group.

Roxanne, glad you hear your faith is restored! Shelley you are great! I hope as I learn the ropes of rescue, I will be able to help as many dachsies as you! I continue to pray for Mickey and Minnie.

Andrea, you too are a blessing for our little dachsies. No matter how often I ask for your help or advice, you always give it. You are right...when we put the puppers first, our rescue groups can accomplish much. I hope I can contine to call on you for advice!!

I encourage anyone wanting to help dachsies to get involved with rescue. It is time consuming, but very rewarding. There are so many dachsies in need of people like all of us to help them find their forever homes.

Hooray to CCDR and DRNA! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/jacks.gif

Shelly, about all I can say is thank you for being there and giving you support to these little ones when they need it most. Regardless of the outcome you are giving them some loving and if they pass on it won't be without someone caring. It they don't pull through please consider adding a posting for them at the rescue section of Dachshund Memorial Gardens. Perhaps someone who doesn't want to spend the money on heart worm test and medication will realize how important it can be.

Thanks, Georgette. If this works out for Harry, the folks behind the scenes who have been so supportive, Shelley, Andrea, Tanya will be the basic reason.
There are problems and complications which exist, not with our friends on the Board, but closer to where Harry is in NC.
I am hoping for a happy ending when I can learn more and share this story.

"Things are seldom what they seem", a line from a Gilbert and Sullian operetta; never more true than in the rescue attempt for Harry. I have privately emailed several on the board who supported the effort, with the latest news. Thought I'd let the rest of you know how this has ended.
Harry was posted on a list as a black, longhaired, 2 yr. old male Dachsie needing an immediate home. No qualifiers.
Those of us trying to help ended up emailing each other because the gal who had Harry wasn't responding.
Lots of time spinning our wheels.
Finally, there was a breakthough and what I learned is that Harry _probably_ is a mix and the gal that has him in temporary custody will not let him leave her _immediate_ local area.????????????????
Even to get him into the hands of people who know/understand Dachsies and will find him an appropriate forever home?
NOPE.
I now have several large bumps on my head from banging it against the wall in frustration. The time spent on this could have been better used helping someone who really wants and needs rescue.
For me, this is a lesson learned and one I will not soon forget.
So thanks again to everyone here for working on this with me.
Roxane

Roxane,

Bummer. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/frown.gif

I wasn't around for the start of your rescue effort, but I was just catching up and saw how it had worked out--or DIDN'T work out, to be accurate. I'm so sorry!

I don't understand the people who don't want to keep their dogs any more but won't let them leave the general vicinity. What's up with THAT???

A wonderful family here is about to adopt Bogey and Non-Bogey, the piebald pair in Georgia, one of whom is deaf. The woman who is fostering them there is going to be flying through O'Hare in a couple of weeks and is thrilled to bring them along with her. She's positively elated that they are going to a great home! Isn't this the appropriate attitude???

Hi Pamela:
It defies logic. This gal has about 6 other dogs in her care. If she doesn't want others to help why put them on a list? I do understand through the grapevine that she has "attitude" when it comes to rescue groups. My approach was an attempt to do some networking for her. I'm about 130 miles from where she lives. Had I been closer I would have been able to do a person to person and better understand where she is coming from. Regardless, Harry is still in limbo and that is really what bothers me.
On the "up" side, you've been doing
a super job. Thanks for keeping us posted, it wipes the frown off my face. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif
