I have a pretty hectic work and school schedule that leaves my 9 month old doxie home alone for long periods a few days a week. He gets pretty bored when he's home alone and sleeps most of the day. On the days that I work long hours I come home and after sleeping all day he's up and ready to play the rest of the night. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep him more occupied when I'm not around? He has a basket full of toys and bones and I leave the TV on for him during the day but it still doesn't seem to entertain him enough.

used to leave my doxie home alone but for no more than 8 hours but as he gets older he will settle down a little at night mine did.if u have a family member to take him out to potty and a few minutes of playtime its alot better for them. :)

Yeah, if you could get someone to come over mid-day for a walk or even just playtime that'd be good. Maybe look into doggie daycare a couple days a week too! As for toys, try Kongs, and fill them with yummy things. My boy is a Kong expert now!

These is always the "get a playmate" option if you can have 2 dogs.

As many know, I'm pulling my dogs out of a very stressful move. Our new city has very strict barking laws. Part of my training involves video taping them during short leave sessions. Wow!! Did that open my eyes. :eek3:

They eat any treat-toy left, then just sit by the door and wait. Sometimes they just eat a little, and ration the food for later. Other special toys left out are completely ignored, but that's just my pack. If you can video tape a short session, it is really beneficial. (I never thought I would be doing this!)

IMHO, I do agree with a pet sitter or dog walker to break up the day.
