For Sale, mini dachshund, 8 years old, $50 obo. <phone number>

This ad just hit me as odd. 8 years old and $50?

If this is a loved pet of 8 years how could you put a price of $50 obo on it?

I got a feeling something is wrong but I am not in a position to adopt, although I would love to have another. I don't know what to do, I know how hard it is to place an older dog. I don't know who the rescue is in my area, (south central pa)

need advice.

Why not call the ad & ask some questions? It may be that they really need to get rid of the dog, & figure if someone is willing to pay $50 for it, they are more likely to give it a good home than if it were free. Ask questions like does he get along with cats, kids, ferrets, is he a digger, climber, etc. There's got to be SOMETHING wrong with the dog, & you can use that as the excuse that you can't take him.

Anyway, someone here should be able to provide local rescue info, & you would have some facts to pass on.

David, I am just inside of NJ on Rt 80, and there is another DRNA member south of me. Please email me directly at hans_bean@yahoo.com. If you are not going to call the ad, I will.

Thanks for the tip.

I called all day yesterday and today, I finally got a hold of someone. She was sold and no other information would be given.

I only hope that it was to a good home.

Thanks for you help. I will continue to keep an eye out for ads like that.

David,

You did what you could. It is a shame though that they wouldn't give you anymore information. I too hope the little one got to a good home.
