It seems as though we all live in a very complicated and fast-paced world. One of my friends shared this with me today, and I thought I would share it with all of my friends here....

Let's reminisce a while...
Close your eyes.....And go back........

Before the Internet or the MAC,
Before semi automatics and crack
Before SEGA or Super Nintendo

Way back........
I'm talkin' bout hide and go seek at dusk.
Sittin' on the porch. Hot bread and butter.
The ice cream man. Eatin' a 'super dooper sandwich'. Red light, Green light.

Chocolate milk. Lunch tickets. Penny candy in a brown paper bag. Hopscotch, butterscotch, doubledutch. Jacks, kickball, dodgeball, y'all! Mother May I? Hula Hoops and Sunflower Seeds, Jolly Ranchers, blowpops, Mary Janes, Grape and Watermelon Now-Laters (what about "Alexander the grape", "lemonheads")

Running through the sprinkler (I can't get wet! All right, well don't wet my hair....)the smell of the sun and lickin' salty lips....

Watchin' Saturday Morning cartoons, Mighty Mouse, Road Runner, He-Man, The Three Stooges, and Bugs. Catchin' lightening bugs in a jar. Playin sling shot. When around the corner seemed far away, and going downtown seemed like going somewhere. Bedtime. Climbing trees. A million mosquito bites and sticky fingers. Cops and Robbers. Cowboys and Indians. Sittin on the curb. Jumpin down the steps. Jumpin on the bed.

Pillow fights. Being tickled to death. Runnin till you were out of breath. Laughing so hard that your stomach hurt. Being tired from playin'.... Remember that?

Crowding around in a circle around the 'after school fight', then running when the teacher came. Eating Kool-aid powder with sugar.

Remember when...

When there were two types of sneakers for girls and boys (Keds & PF Flyers), and the only time you wore them at school, was for "gym." When it took five minutes for the TV to warm up. When nearly everyone's mom was at home when the kids got there. When nobody owned a purebred dog. When a quarter was a decent allowance, and another quarter a huge bonus. When you'd reach into a muddy gutter for a penny. When girls neither dated nor kissed until late high school, if then.
When your Mom wore nylons that came in two pieces. When all of your male teachers wore neckties and female teachers had their hair done, everyday.

When you got your windshield cleaned, oil checked, and gas pumped, without asking, for free, every time. And, you didn't pay for air. And, you got trading stamps to boot!

When laundry detergent had free glasses, dishes or towels hidden inside the box.
When any parent could discipline any kid, or feed him or use him to carry groceries, and nobody, not even the kid, thought a thing of it . When it was considered a great privilege to be taken out to dinner at a real restaurant with your parents. When they threatened to keep kids back a grade if they failed ... and did!

When being sent to the principal's office was nothing compared to the fate that awaited a misbehaving student at home. Basically, we were in fear for our lives but it wasn't because of drive by shootings, drugs, gangs, etc. Our parents and grandparents were a much bigger threat!

LOVED IT!! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/bounce.gif I used to get a magazine called Reminisce. It was ALL about those simpler times....some of which I remember and some that were before my day....BUT I'M GETTIN' UP THERE!! I stopped my subscription simply because I DON'T HAVE TIME to read right now. On the cover of Reminisce, they have a saying...Nostalgia is like a grammar lesson: We find the present tense and the past perfect. HOWEVER!!!!!
I sure am glad I have the internet! I have met soooo many nice people and it's a great place to talk about my passion: DACHSHUNDS!

Thank you my friends,
Sandi

I found tremendous peace sitting on my deck today watching Wotan sleep in the sun and listening to water sprinklers in front. We have these western tanager birds that have really loud songs, it reminded me of when I was a kid in Germany.

I think I've realized a long time ago that it's the simple things that count. You always have time for some perfume after a hot shower, taking a couple of picts of your dachsie, finding time to snooze in the sun for 20 mins, drinking your pop in a glass with ice instead of the can, having your nails done.

I make sure to guard time for myself during the work week too. I like hanging out with the Wo-ster while he shoots back and forth with a big doggie grin on his lips http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif

I love this! Reading something like that can really bring you back. I made a copy for my best friend from high school(we are still best friends) We have been out of school for 15 years now and sometimes it seems like yesterday.

Some times when I relax out back on a hot jersey summer day. The puppers hang out with me and my son and hubby go to play roller hockey. You get a smell of the air or maybe the ice cream truck goes by and it brings you right back to those long hot summer days when your only care was coming home for dinner when mom called you. Then you went right back oout again because the dark did not some until 9pm every night.

Thanks for this great post, it brightened my dayhttp://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/bounce.gif

Loved reading about the good old days. I love sitting on the deck with my doxie, Sadie and reading a book, especially when it rains. She likes to get as close as she can and snuggle.

Mickamack, thank you for taking us back to the 'good ol days' when life was simpler! I got misty eyed reading about all of the wonderful memories.
Our world is so greedy and self-centered anymore, nothin is for free. Recently I went to the Car Wash (they change oil too), and I asked if they would mind putting air in my tires....they replied "you have to get an oil change first". Can you believe that???? Go figure!!http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/frown.gif

Thanks for the reminder--sometimes I think we just rush through the days. I like to take some tips from my two furbabies --make time to stop and smell the flowers, grass ect. Some of the most precious times spent are the quiet moments. I think if people just appreciated the quiet little moments in life--the world would be a better place.

Karen . . . I've been thinking about your post since you put it up. Thank you for jogging this old brain.

What great days those were . . . sometimes I forget.

Sitting in pear trees and eating green pears all afternoon, sidewalk tag, making friends with construction workers building houses, Sky King, Commander Cody, Milky the Clown, Gee Wizard and his faithful dog Applesauce, Crusader Rabbit, Clutch Cargo, Supercar, real Saturday matinees w/wall to wall kids (for 25 cents), neighborhood ball games where everyone (even the adults) played, cathchin' Pollywogs/frogs & snakes, wax lips, waiting for the latest Superman comic book to come out, sending away for miracle gadgets (everyone who tried the X-ray glasses raise your hand), playing in the rain, knowing the mailman by name because he was a friend, delivered bread and bottles of milk, going to an evening show with your parents, Gunsmoke, Perry Mason, Lava Lamps, plastic covered furniture that only came off for company, the babysitter is someone you hang out with, "shortcuts" to get where your going no matter where it was, scary local folklore, fire, tornado & Abomb drills in school, duck & cover, forgiving adults, black & white TV & movies, little league, going to real baseball games way out in the bleachers and feeling like your right behind home plate, cable cars, brick roads, dime stores with an ice cream fountain (and things that really were a dime), Decoder rings, one a week Encyclopedia volumes at the grocery store, clotheslines with clothes on them, certain kids that had "cooties", running a Kool Aid stand that was a card table/chair & sign, Chipmunk songs, Elvis, Doris Day, water rockets, rubberband airplanes, intersections where you could turn left, marbles instead of Pokeman, all the students wore dresses (girls) or dress slacks/shirts (boys) . . .

And there's so much more I'm sure we've missed.

Thanks for the memories, Karen. I forgot how much fun it was just to remember.

Karen, Those were the days. Tuesday nights with Uncle Miltie, sitting on the porch in the rain watching the lightening bugs, ring-a-levio, hop scotch and potsie, hide n go seek, Howdy Doody and Buffalo Bob, I Love Lucy, The Honeymooners - my favorite books - the Betsey Tacey series, the Bobsey Twins and Nancy Drew - Coney Island and the Cyclone, Nathan's Franks - Earth Angel. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/eek3.gif Wow, it not only brings back memories, but shows my age. Thanks. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif
