Isn't it too bad that one or two stinkers ruin it for the rest of us? That was a great board, but I have no intention of returning to it, especially if she's back, giving crummy "I used to work for a vet" advice http://dachsie.org/ubb/rolleyes.gif Let us take note, she wasn't a vet, and who knows what capacity she worked in... Anywho... This board seems to be kicking some butt and we have the "Cream of the Crop" here to boot http://dachsie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif !!
~~Amy~~
You're right . . . thanks to all the old active members and the very welcome addition of the newly migrated (and really cool http://dachsie.org/ubb/cool.gif ) newer members . . . this board is kickin' some major butt. If Ms. Crummy http://dachsie.org/ubb/tongue.gif finds her way over here (hope not), from all I've gleaned from the posts . . . keep me in the loop as to where everyone's going from here.

I just got here from the other board. I was away for a while because they wouldn't give me access at work. But when I did get on...oooh boy did I find one interesting group!!! I noticed all of you (the "old group") were gone and some very "opinionated" newcomers were there. I can see why you all left.
Sonja (Wotansmutti) and Pamela(Weinergal) were nice enough to find me and tell me that you all had moved a new board. I promise, I won't tell a soul!
So far, I haven't had any access problems getting onto this board, so I hope the luck stays in my favor and I get to share stories and doggies with you all. I missed you bunches!

Hi Shel,
Good to know we have a hooman bean on "board" with some Catahoula instincts that will keep the herd together. http://dachsie.org/ubb/wink.gif
Hi MIckamack,
Welcome! If you haven't found it already in previous posts . . . here's the answer. When posting a reply to a post, click the "Smilies Legend" link to the left of the "Your Reply" box . . . that will give you the formulas for making these smilie faces. http://dachsie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
So, I'd like to hear about your Dachsie(s).

Hi Mickamack. Glad to see you here!
I hope we didn't leave anyone behind. One of the things I missed when the other board bloomed was being able to turn my computer on in the morning and catch up over coffee. It got to the point where I needed six or seven coffees before I was caught up. Not a pretty sight.

Welcome Mickamack to the new Zone. We love it here because it seems like we know what we're trying to talk about. I sort of got confused with what some of the other zoners are saying these days.
Where is that Wienergal? Power walking all over Chicago with her doggies,no doubt!

Mickamack,
I know what you mean! I had things going on at work and hadn't been able to check in at the zone for about 2 weeks and then I got the email from Pamela telling me about this place. Needless to say, I had no idea all that *stuff* had been going on at the zone.
Anyway, I'm glad we're back together here on this board, along with all the other cool people like Mark that were already here!

Mickamack! I'm so glad to see you're back with us. Some of you girls were tricky to get a hold of and let you know where we were without "blowing our cover." I am very glad that Pamela, Amy, and I thought of this BB. I actually found my way to the other board via this one. I met Amy here and sh pointed me to you guys and I'm glad she did, even though that place has gone south. I too heard that miss snotty hypocrite found her way back there, but I have not been posting there anyway. I have been checking the adoption rescue forum and emailing people ifI thought I could give them good info, rather than posting.
BTW, should we maybe invite Ocken over here to beef up the male population on the board? I have been wondering how little Mickey is doing.
The "male population" members for this board just had a meeting and I elected myself to be our spokesperson . . . Yes, we could use a little beefing up! http://dachsie.org/ubb/tongue.gif

SHE is not only back, but back with a vengence and dominating the BB. I went over to read the adoption/rescue forum and she is at it again over the age issue. Still yapping her head off about taking a pup home at 5 or 6 weeks. ICK! Dukey's Mom is standing up for the other viewpoint of at least 8 weeks. Crazy.
She also advocated giving pepto to a dachsie. Now I've heard that pepto can be okay, but I have also heard smaller dogs can overdose on it and make their problems worse. -No mention of checking with the vet first. IGNORANT!

I've just come from a visit at the zone. Does anyone know if the email listed under Andrea's information is current? It seems like I've tried to reach her using that address about a month ago and never got an answer from her and that's not like her at all so I wonder if she hasn't changed the addy and forgot to update it on her info. I wonder if that address was used to tell her about this place, if she ever got the message. She's been fighting it out over there with *her* for a few days now on the puppy age issue and I think it's a lost cause with that woman. http://dachsie.org/ubb/mad.gif
I think we should try to reach Andrea again somehow. Any ideas?

You know Sonya,
I emailed her yesterday and haven't heard anything back.... Perhaps someone (me, I guess) can post in the middle of the "It's Ok to get a 5 week old puppy" thread asking her to email me directly.
I actually broke down and posted on that board yesterday (it's entertaining to lurk) to "A dachshund named Delmer" before little miss Know It All http://dachsie.org/ubb/mad.gif got to her. She was concerned about her baby shivering and acting strange, I told her to call her Vet ASAP becauce there wasn't anyone on the board who was qualified to answer her better. I hope the puppy is all right!

Amy,
I saw where you posted to the Delmer thing. I hope he'll let us know how he's doing. I read somewhere that shaking can be a sign of pain, particularly back trouble kind of pain. I hope that's not the case here.
I went to the zone and posted for Andrea to email me, not under that particular argument but under the rescue post about finding the doxie for Pam C's mom. Maybe I'll hear something from Andrea soon. I'll let y'all know if and when I do.
I think her email has to have changed 'cause its not like her not to write back. I think she's just not getting our messages. She probably wonders what's happened to all of us! I'm sure if she knew we were all over here, she'd be here too. She's part of our "family"!

After your comments about "her" I can only imagine. Was she really advocating adopting a puppy at 5 weeks? http://dachsie.org/ubb/eek.gif First of all, that's illegal. Secondly, the puppies need that time with their mother (biological mother). A puppy that age is not ready to be taken away from its family. If "she" finds this board, please let me know where everyone is migrating to.
Owen's Mom
04-06-2000, 02:15 PM
Yes... she advocates it highly! She thinks the earlier you can bond with a puppy the better and she's not one to back down on the issue. Email me if you want the board's address and you can check it out for yourself, maybe even do a drive-by http://dachsie.org/ubb/tongue.gif posting to her!!

Wienergal here! Present and accounted for!
I thought I had the correct address for Andrea, but maybe not. Anyway, let's hope we hear from her soon!
Mandy, our delightful friend (heavy sarcasm http://dachsie.org/ubb/tongue.gif) insists that if you don't get a puppy at a very young age, it won't bond with you. http://dachsie.org/ubb/confused.gif
Much worse than that, however, was her advice to someone whose dachshund had taken on the alpha role in her home and had started growling at and biting her family members. The advice: "wack the heck out of her with a newspaper." http://dachsie.org/ubb/mad.gif
She told Amy that HER problem was that she didn't bother listening!
Now you know why we're all here!
Owen's Mom
04-06-2000, 02:55 PM
Her insult was so much more subversive that just saying that I didn't bother listening http://dachsie.org/ubb/mad.gif Here, let me cut and paste her exact words
"Owen's mom, you are making it too easy for me to prove my point that you don't really comprehend what you are reading and then you blast people for your clear misinterpretation. Can't we all be nice???"
http://dachsie.org/ubb/eek.gif First of all... and why I'm all in a snit right now I'll never know... I never once "blasted" anyone... I did ask for clarification where another poster said she got her pup at 2 weeks (gasp!) But Puhhh Leeze little Missy! How dare you call me stupid in an underhanded way!
Whew!!!! Was that cathartic or what http://dachsie.org/ubb/tongue.gif !!!
Anywhoooooo That was the day our beloved Zone went to the way of the T-Rex http://dachsie.org/ubb/wink.gif I'm actually glad it happened that way, there are too many people on that board now to be able to keep up with it and the Cream definetly rises to the top and here it is!! http://dachsie.org/ubb/cool.gif
MaverickMom
04-06-2000, 03:23 PM
Oh, Mandy, be glad you weren't there.
After I got the email from Wienergal telling me about this place and she filled me in on what had been happening at the Zone, of course I had to go over there and read it all for myself. I was appalled!
Like Amy said, she is not one to back down or to even agree to disagree on an issue at all! She is very adamant that her way is law and she knows all. This woman even made the comment that she once got a Bassett puppy at nine weeks old and said he was just too far gone at that time to train him at all! Too far gone at 9 weeks??? Can you believe that??
And where the heck did she get off telling you, Amy, to "lets be nice, please". PLEEEESE! Amy, I have seen you disagree with people on issues before and let me say, you are never one to be rude or "not nice" to anyone. You have always been kind and fair in your posts even when you didn't agree with an issue. It's called being an ADULT and acting the part!
"Little Miss Know It All" made it a point to be rude and hateful to more than one person over there. It was not pretty at all.
I'm glad we're all here now. I too and glad for the smaller numbers. It does make it easier to keep up with all my favorite chat buddies!

She got mad at me because I said "beating the heck" out of a dog with a newspaper was animal abuse. Well excuse me, but I take people at their words and "beating the heck" out of anything sure sounds like abuse to me!

Oh, that's right--I'd forgotten the nine-week-old untrainable basset hound!! That's truly hilarious! But I'm not sure I'd go so far as to call Amy an "adult." After all, she did brag a lot about her racing wonder wienie, AND she has told all those stories about how Owen was housebroken in two hours and how he never steals food and loves to go outside in bad weather. Remember those stories? Maybe all of YOU believe them, but I think that, when Amy's gone, Owee pees on the carpet, opens the fridge and eats all her leftover Chinese takeout, and then leaves greasy paw marks on all her books as he's reading them. http://dachsie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif It's just that he's so beautiful that it doesn't matter!!

Anyone know 'The Authority' on dogs? Is there a Veterinary Institute or someone from whom we could get a quote about puppies and weaning ages? We could post this on every board she posts on. I don't think that this age issue is personal opinion. I'm sure it's a fact that they need to be with their four-legged family for at least 8 weeks. I'd hate to think that someone might listen to her advice because they see HER as an authority.

I just visited the Zone. Delmer went to bed last night shivering and refusing to move but woke up this morning bouncy and happy.
Someone suggested that he may have had a seizure and should be taken to a vet today even if he seems ok. I hope 'A dachshund named Delmer' heeds that advice.

OOOH that worries me too. You just can't be too careful when it comes to things like that. I really hope she listens too. Her post seemed like she thinks everything is hunkey doorey, but shaking all night when it is not cold is not normal. Scarey. We are thinking of and sending rays to Delmer.

04-07-2000, 10:02 AM
I was thinking that Delmer might be a little Hypoglycemic? Maybe he hadn't eaten all day and his body was freakin' out? I understand that it's very common for little dogs to have this problem and she really needs a vet to check it out.
Anywho... Leave Owen out, huh? You're just fishin' for "How Owen Destroyed my Apartment" stories!! I JUST got the curtains hung back up so that they are once again anchored in the middle... Had to find that screw that flew out of the wall when he was busy yanking all the panels over the desk. And my mini-blinds are all broken from a well placed dachshund nose! I'm going to try to get my apt. management company to put in vert. blinds (they need to be replaced anyway). I'm trying to re-home the parakeets that Owen wants to "play" http://dachsie.org/ubb/eek.gif with and once I do, I think I'll give him some more dry runs out of the crate. I hate crating him... but I know he's safer in there as is my Apt.
BTW... Owen has decided he doesn't like rainy weather anymore. Today the photographer was in our office, taking digital photos of the dogs. We're using them in a CD-ROM training program we're producing on allergic diseases of the skin. The dogs are the illustration to a screen that mentions pet dander. I swear, when that camera came out, Farfel just went into his POSE. That dog loves to model! Hi everyone,
I visit this board often, and you all have me SO CURIOUS to who this "person" is!! I think I know who it is just by being on this board at times. I stopped visiting for a while because there was one very judgemental person here, but now I do not see posts from her.
Anyway, I have two wonderful doxies. Both were rescues. My long haired, dapple girl is Pumpkin, who we have had three years (she is 5). My short haired, red boy is Alfie, who we have had three months (he is 7-8). I am still learning about these great creatures and enjoy all the advise and suggestions I can get.

Okay...just from hearing about this woman I have gotten my scruff all ruffled, so I plan on letting out a little steam. Let me know and I will be happy to do a fly-by-posting directed at her! http://dachsie.org/ubb/mad.gif The stuff about adopting a puppy at such a young age is crap! You can go to jail for selling a puppy too young, and I doubt that went in to legislation for the fun of it! The people who sell puppies so young are usually from the horrible mean terrible puppy mills. http://dachsie.org/ubb/mad.gif
As far as having a puppy totally potty-trained at 9 weeks.....I have heard of it before, but come on,...really??? http://dachsie.org/ubb/rolleyes.gif Henry was paper trained by that time, but not because we trained him....he wanted to go on papers, so we put out newspaper. Henry wasn't outside trained until he was a year old. He woke up one morning and decided he was ready. He still has occasional accidents even at almost 2 1/2, although his accidents are usually of the poop persuasion. He cannot tolerate having anyone watch him defecate. He crawls into a bush so no one will see him, and don't even think about talking to him. My father-in-law didn't know this and happened to say good Henry as he was doing his business. Henry stopped in the middle and refused to finish. He waited a full 30 minutes after coming inside and hid in the bedroom to finish. Jakey was always too busy playing to even think about potty training....he didn't have time for it...now, he realizes the importance of going potty outside (because you get doggie cookies when you come back inside) http://dachsie.org/ubb/tongue.gif
And what really got me about what you have told me about this woman.....hitting a dog who has an alpha complex???? (Hitting any living creature, for that matter!) http://dachsie.org/ubb/mad.gif My word! That is the absolute last thing you want to do. Henry has possessive/aggressive tendencies. I have talked to all of the professionals, done the research, and so on....only positive training should be used on an aggressive dog. When Henry was at his worst, he had to wear a 15 foot lead for a week, in the event that he threw a temper tantrum...so we could grab him by his lead and hold him away. Now, if he gets grumpy, I can tell him in a stern voice that I don't like it when he is naughty and ask where my good Henry is. When he gets grumpy in the bed, he gets kicked out of our bed (which is probably the worst punishment in his mind) for a night or two. We have used positive training with him and that is the only thing that works. We tried other methods (including holding him on his back). Anyone with aggressive questions let me know. I can go on and on. Henry is now the sweetest little boy 99.99999% of the time.
This woman needs to have HER aggressive tendencies beaten out.....how uninformed she is! http://dachsie.org/ubb/mad.gif

You guys are soooooo funny.
I'm glad I can count on you to gather up the herd - you'd think this was a Border Collie board.
Ocken posts here doesn't he? That's one more guy.
And yes I've been asking about CJ for ages and ages. I really miss her.
I still have the old email addresses so if we think of someone...
The funny thing is that I usually only have time to ready Rescue & Tales & now here Miscellaneous. So I had no clue about the whole disturbance issue and was posting merrily (Sp?) on my way. It took me weeks before I tripped over that thread.
Mark, we really don't gossip much at all - actually this is our first indulgence - but a little is fun, don't you think?

You guys are sooooo funny.
Ocken has posted here hasn't he? That's at least one more guy.
And yes I wonder what's become of our truck driver friend - maybe the dachsie is at the wheel.
I miss CJ very much - she was alsways such a role model and leader to me.
Remember I still have our old email list if we think of someone else - I'll have to pull it out and check.
The funny thing is that I was oblivious to the whole issue because I usually only read Adoption, Tales, and now here Miscellaneous. So I missed the whole furor until I was sure something was amiss and went searching - Voila a lunatic. When I saw that picture of her baby I thought the other person was hers truly instead of her husband. OK I just glanced at the thumbnail but she is one tough lady.
Hey Mark we really barely gossip at all - this is our first indulgence that I can remember.

I used to work with people like her and I would have to glug antacids all day to make it through. No matter what or how you try to say something YOU think or believe, if it doesn't jive with that person's interpretation of whatever it's WAR. Black and white zones,do not cross lines, no prisoners taken...

Based upon what everyone was saying, I went over there to check for myself. This certain person will just not quit, will she??? She says that all of the reasons people state for not buying a pup before 8 wks are "opinions", not fact. Even though there has been tons of research, they are just "opinions" to her. While at the same time, her personal experience with getting pups at an early age is "facts"...Amazing!
She really gets me boiling! I am so tempted to write something, but it is so fruitless. She will not listen to anyone or any other viewpoint. It's eiter her way or the high-way...or else she'll write back and insult you!
I guess with a person like this you can never win! I read the multitude of people who disagreed with her, but then she'll write and tell people to ignore what everyone else is saying. My biggest concern is that someone is going to have some real problems listening to her bad advice. I just know there are a lot of people who are looking at that site for answers with their
dogs, and THAT is the advice they are getting?! To me, it has "disaster" potential written all over it.
Is there anything we can do to stop her? Or is there even a point? My heart is so saddened by what I was reading, I wish there was something I knew to do...

Mickamack,
You are soooo right, it does appear fruitless. I don't think there is anything that anyone can do. I flew by and posted the laws in my state and all she had to say was "Both Lousiana and Texas have no laws regarding the sale of puppies under seven weeks of age. Thank God." and "I'll risk the socialization factor over my dog's health and well-being any day. AND I will recommend others to do so as well."
I feel really angry that she is able to give such rotten advice and make me sound like an idiot all in one post...... http://dachsie.org/ubb/mad.gif

It takes me all morning to catch up with your posts from over the weekend! I took a little trip over to the zone and am still amazed at Miss Know it All's response to everyone's posts. She wants "facts", what's that all about? She doesn't hold a solid one on her own! Dachshundrsq made excellent points, supported by facts, and it looks like she decided not to read them. Too bad. I don't expect anyone to change her mind, I just don't want people that are coming for advice to see her posts and think that she is some kind of authority on ANYTHING.
Anyway... here's the trick Mickmack! go to cj's page where she graciously posted all our pictures, click on your favorite one of Micky, and copy the URL. Then, post your message here, type paste url

Thanks soooo much Mark and Amy for your support. I've about had it over there and it was clearly time for me to go anyway. At first, my post was just a way to maybe get her to see our side of things but that slam by her totally hurt. Life is just too short to put up with others who operate in this fashion. Like my hubby told me earlier today, NOTHING will convince her to maybe see our side of things.
It's unfortunate........through my post, I only wanted to inform people and I only did it for the love of doxies and dogs in general but I was made to be the bad guy. I sincerely hope that no one takes her advice in any way shape or form.
Oh well....now I feel better....deep breath..ahhhhhhhhh! OK Happy days are here again...hmm hmmmm (Ok I don't remember the words). Hey Mark, rack 'em up..... http://dachsie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Hi Kris,
It was my distinct pleasure. I could feel your frustration & anger and I shared it. I was right, that she probably wouldn't "get it", looking at the post she just made. Oh well, MadMax will keep his resolve and not post again. Of course, if I feel like another drive-by, there's alot of other email addresses and user names available. http://dachsie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif hee-hee!
I've had 5 Mini WH Doxies, bred twice, and owned a variety of other breeds . . . I just couldn't bring myself to exit the site without taking a shot for the dogs and my good friends here. I may not know everything (like she apparently does http://dachsie.org/ubb/rolleyes.gif ), but I do know better than the **** she is peddling.

Amy, Mark, and weenie -
I just couldn't keep quiet any longer. She was playing the "victim", and acting all innocent. I was very brief, but nonetheless tried to get my point across that she is the agressor and not the victim, like she is trying to portray herself as.
I know that it went in one ear and out the other with her, but I can only hope that other people out there will listen and beware.
Karen
I just read her response to my post. She said that she was "flattered" that so many people thought she was important enough to post so often about poor little her.
She is so condescending! She is so cool and always try to come out on top. I can just see the little smirk she had on her face while she wrote that...I am not a violent person at all, and don't advocate violence in any way, but when I encounter a person like that, I'd love to smack that smirk right off their face!
Ok, I'm sorry, I got a little upset there. I'm calmed down now. I don't think I can even go there to read anymore...it's just too irritating. Things like that bring out the worst in me. I like the NICE people here. I want to surround myself with NICE people who are encouraging one another to be the best people they can be.

Allow me to say that I am really angry. I could not keep my mouth shut about this one. On the other board . . .she gave advice about correcting a dog with separation anxiety by popping in and out and yelling "NO". I politely disagreed as I am truly afraid her advice may be taken as a quick fix and then the poor dog will be even worse.
I just have to stop going there, but I can't seem to do it.
Are we at the bar yet?
And a naive question: why are people like that?

<Heavy sigh> You guys, it should be abundantly clear by now that, if the Dachshund Goddess herself descended from the heavens and made a pronouncement, our dear little friend would argue with her. The world is full of people who are not interested in learning, but want simply to have everyone bow down to their opinions, however wrong-headed they might be. Logic, reason, facts, evidence--meaningless!!
Before I left that board, I too was very concerned that other people would take her advice to heart and thus do damage to their dogs. So I would dutifully respond to her idiotic posts with suggestions that the questioner ask his or her vet, ask his or her breeder, consult an expert. Then, of course, Miss Know-it-all would jump in and RE-post her original stupidity.
I guess my question to all of you who have been arguing with her "over there" is this: WHY?
There's an old saying that I think really applies in this case: Don't try to teach a pig to sing: It doesn't work and it makes the pig mad.
Just let it go. Much better for your mental health to stay away.

I'm Baccccccccccckkkkkkk!!
Wahoo, miss you guys! Had to get away from the Zone, which is sad, but there is some crazed woman over there, who I probably won't be buddies with!
Anyway, I lost my password here and had to get a new one.Duh! Anyway, I need some Doxie stories guys.
Have I got some for you guys http://dachsie.org/ubb/smile.gif So from the house of Dukey, Dottie, Maggie, Roger and Sammy....could it be, I didn't tell you about Sammy! hehehehehe!
Sammy is a 4 month old mini smooth B/T. Sooooooo cute! Anyway, I have handed out quite a few DRNA business cards, and to make a long story short. Got a call from a woman who knew this breeder who was trying to sell Sammy for two months( since he 6 weeks old, I won't go there!) no takers, was going to keep him as a breeder dog or put him down.
Tada! Andrea to the rescue! I told the husband I was going grocery shopping and came home with a box with Sammy inside. The stupid guy had Sammy in a taped up box when I got to him! Anyway, I asked my husband, honey, can you hold this, and went into the garage where I promptly heard ANDREAAAAA!!!
What is this! I said, um, a dog? Honey says, "who's" I say "yours" I'm getting so good at this...hehehehehe
Sammy LOVES his new dady and vice versa.
I have been made to sign an agreement of no dogs other than fosters are allowed in the house. Mean husband!
So, other than that, not much new http://dachsie.org/ubb/smile.gif

On one other note. Dottie is still wanted in several states...be careful!

Heck, I remember when you just had the two!! Now you have your own pack! What a patient husband you have. Does he have any brothers in the Southern California area that I can test drive? http://dachsie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
As for Danielle at the Zone. I'm with Wienergal at this point. There is nothing we can do to counter her opinions and it's becoming pointless to carry on these arguements with her, as much as it raises my hackles!! Hey, Sonja! Was that a Midwest-hayseed kind of crack from the great Northwest??? http://dachsie.org/ubb/wink.gif Actually, even though I'm from Philadelphia originally and have lived pretty much in cities all my life, I did spend two years in Iowa, doing graduate work. I shared a wonderful Sears catalog house in a tiny town 20 miles north of Iowa City with two other grad students. They had a pet pig, a Hampshire named Mrs. Bennett. They also had the dachshund, Pinky, that made me fall in love with the breed. When Mrs. Bennett was young, she and Pinky would chase each other all over the yard, and Mrs. Bennett loved to steal Pinky's ball. It was quite a sight--Mrs. Bennett running full-tilt (Pigs are QUICK!), squealing away, and Pinky racing after her, bark bark bark bark bark!
OK, time to hit the sty...er, bed... http://dachsie.org/ubb/wink.gif

I want a pig, but my hubby says no. Andrea would have her hubby giving her a pig if she wanted it (this is all said with an extemely whiney voice)
One day last month, a grandparent of one of my kids brought in a piglet. It was smaller and more fragile looking than a 6 week old pup. Grandma bottle fed it every 4 hours at that point, and it was really friendly. It ran around the class snorting.
I asked gr'ma how big that little piggie would get full grown. She said,"Oh, about 500 lbs. The males get up to 800-1000 lbs."
Then I asked her how long it takes them to mature- she said 5-6 months. EEEEEEEk.
I guess I'd have to get one of those little Vietnamese pigs for Wotan to play with.
