One of our local vets has 2 sweet dogs, a Basset and Beagle, that were turned in by their owners to be put to sleep because he said he was too old to take care of them. The vet does not want to put these babies down because they are so sweet, healthy, and full of life. I have contacted a Basset rescue and they will be getting the Basset Hound, but the Beagle...I'm worried about.

There are no Beagle Rescues in GA. I contacted SOS Beagles and they said that they were not taking any beagles her age (Female 9 yr old)because they are too hard to place. Well, who needs rescued the most?? Older dogs!! The vet has kept these dogs for 3 weeks now trying to place them, but he can't keep her forever. Anyone got any ideas??

I couldn't believe a rescue group wouldn't take an older dog on a PTS list. I know DRNA and CCDR will take any dachsie! I'm feeling bad right now. You would never guess she's 9...she got so much spirit. Any help is appreciated

I did a little web searching an think the following sites might help you in your search to help out this dog.

Beagle Rescue Foundation of America http://brfoa.tripod.com/

Georgia Beagle Rescue Page http://www.geocities.com/beaglesbay/rescue.html
This page is for listing dogs available for adoption and is maintained by a private breeder in Georgia

Perhaps if someone could arrange transportation the Triangle Beagle Rescue of North Carolina might be able to help out I see at least one ten year old up for adoption on their site. they can be found at http://www.tribeagles.org/

Again if transportation is possible you might want to check out Hearts United for Animals at http://www.hua.org they do all breed rescue.

One possible source of transport is over the road truckers. Many of these fellows are very kind hearted and might be talked into helping a dog make it's way to a new home.

Good luck,

Tom
