I have a bitey little boy. Deedle is my grown dog and he is past it. Bungle my pup is he is a bitey boy!! What can I get him to appease his biting? I got a rope bone and he likes it ok. He has some rawhide chews sticks and I think deedle likes those better. He likes to bite me and I have told him no and stick his toy in his mouth, that works some of the time. The other times I stick his paw in there. The other night he was in bed with me and bit my boob. Drew blood he did! Youch! Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Maybe get him an artifical substitute?
Not sure about toys, but definetly make sure he is too tired to chew by the time he gets to bed.

Whoa!! Yes, I'm sure that hurt! My boyfriend can vouch for that one...guys and not wearing a shirt to bed (that'll teach him ;) )
Is your pup the type to chew the heck out of toys, or just to sooth the teething stage? My puppy needs to chew but she does not destroy her toys. Every single stuff/plush toy we have has not lost more than a string or two... She loves rawhides and I am always there to watch her with it. It takes her FOREVER to finish her rawhide chews. I found this one that she loves so much!! Its rawhide with a tiny bit of liver paste in the middle. The chew was about 6in. long and now its maybe 3.5-4in. long and she has had it for like a week and a half. I'll throw it out when it gets to about 3in. long (paranoid mommy I am  )
I know some DBBers have some chewers and will be able to tell you which toys are really good for pups that tear things up. Good luck!!

when my babies were little I used to give them what I called Donut bones (they are circle rawhides) it took them along time to chew them. We used to get them at Petcetera - not sure if you have those in the States???

It seems that so far he is a chew the heck out of stuff-er. I get him alot of eat-y treat but deedle always finishes his first and then takes cooper's away. Jeez....

My Penny's a chewer, too.
Our daughter was a teenager when Penny was a pup and Penny was awful about biting Beth's toes. She'd nip at our fingers, too, but there was something about Beth's feet that she loved. I think she may have enjoyed the dramatic reaction each time she bit.... Anyway, we kept toys around and when she'd bite we'd say 'no bite' and put the toy in her mouth (gently of course) and praise her for chewing that. It was slow work, but it seemed to help.
When she was 6 or 7 months old we started getting her to play fetch with a small rubber fish. She'd be chewing, I'd take the fish from her and set it down a little ways away from her - she'd grab it and come back to chew near me again, etc. We did it that way for weeks then she started bringing her toy to where I was sitting or standing, putting the toy down close to me and nudging the toy at me til I paid attention and played with her. She's never tired of that game (we toss the toy - she brings it back) and it's worked great for tiring her out and settling her down all these years.
Perhaps you can get Bungle interested in playing and chewing with rubbery toys by sitting with him and moving the toys around, etc. If you can get him to play/chew on the toy with you, he'll very likely start playing with the same toy on his own, too. Even if it takes him a while to catch on to 'no bite', perhaps he'll sleep better and be less likely to chew on his sleeping Mom.
Penny liked (and still enjoys) the regular Nylabones. She worked a lot on a Galileo when she was a puppy/young dog, though lost interest when she got older. Her favorite chew toys though are cheap-o hard rubber toys from the Dollar Store and the grocery store. She got a couple as gifts when she was a puppy and she was hooked. She's almost 7 now, and still pulls one into her crate to chew a little before she goes to sleep.
We go through them pretty quickly. They crack and I worry about her swallowing a piece, so I trash them as soon as they start to show wear. They're pretty inexpensive though, so I don't mind the short life! ;) Penny prefers small, tube shaped toys as they're easier for her to carry. (Hot dogs, rolled newspapers and caterpillar shaped animals are the ones we hunt for.)
Good luck!

Izzy is a chewer and she likes the wolf (yes, I did say wolf) sized Nylabones. I have pits, and I actually bought the nylabones for them, and Izzy just kinda took over one. It even takes Lily, my most powerful chewer, a month or longer to wear one down. Izzy also likes these little miniature tennis balls that I found. We were at my mom's house, and her chihuahua is obsessed with tennis balls, and Izzy wanted to play but couldn't fit the ball in her mouth. So when I was at Wal-Mart, I found these mini ones that are about half the size of a regular tennis ball. She loves them, because they have some give to them when she cews on them.  about water bras and enhancers! My boob has been attacked by a Lily puppy too!

My babies have been chewing the wolf size Nylabones for years. They really like the "chocolate" flavor ones. I started out getting them regular size, but dachshunds are known to be agressive chewers, and Nylabone recommends that you go a size up from what they list for the dogs' weight.
When Buddy moved in, it didn't take him long to love chewing the Nylabones as much as Rocky does. Halfpint doesn't really care if she has a Nylabone or not, unless the boys have one, then she doesn't want to be left out!
I was at Wal Mart one day, and I saw the Souper size Nylabones. I thought, I bet it will take Buddy a while to chew this one down, if he can even chew it. Boy did Buddy, (and Rocky later) show me!! Buddy loves his souper size Nylabone, and Rocky and Buddy will fight over it!! So my 12 - 18 lb dachshunds now have to have the largest Nylabone there is! :sofunny:

and went into biting mode. I sprayed bitter apple on some things...her basket, her harnesses (I need a magiic wand to make more of those on a daily basis :dizzy: ) and her leashes.
We bought big compressed rawhide bones and when she started the nipping and biting told her NO, pushed her back gently and gave her the bone instead. After several times, she would settle down and chew the bone instead of going after us.
I thought the big bones would be too much, but she works them over, and I don't have to sit right there and watch like I did with the regular and smaller rawhide bones. These are the only things I use now....and they seem to have curbed the chewing on everything else in the house.
Yeah, had that boob chomping experience. Would just about lead you to sleep in heavily padded bras, wouldn't it? :karate:

Lucky was a terrible biter when he was little--we would just say "no bitey" in a strong voice and push him away from what he was doing--
I have to buy the biggest and strongest bones out there--those really little, itty bitty bones-I just walk by and laugh--he would crunch that in one bite--I get them so big that he can barely fit it in his mouth to carry it--I wonder sometimes how it doesnt make him tilt forward and walk only on his front legs!!:sofunny: I tried to get a pic. one time but he wouldnt stay still long enough--he always tries to hide his bones when I first get them--
Now Maggie Rae, on the other hand, is not a biter-she goes behind Lucky and scoops up the bones that he has been chewing on for awhile because he has already softened it up a bit--she can barely put a dent in a bone yet--but that may soon change--she is quite small still--
Lucky has one of those heavy duty red bouncy ball--it is really heavy--that he likes to carry around all the time--doesnt much like chewies anymore unless I take his ball away or if it is time for bed he'll take a chewie into the bed with him if he is not quite sleepy enough--

Romeo's a complete biting fool. When he bites at me during playtime (never rough, even the vet said he's the most gentle biter he's ever seen), I use my stern voice and tell him "Play Nice" and he'll stop... usually reverting to kisses and licking instead of the biting. If he tries to bite me again, I get up and walk into the other room. Once playtime stops, he knows that the "Play Nice" command was serious. He's getting better month by month. It's slow, but there's progress.
As for the toys, he rips them to shreds. He's not allowed to have plush toys unless I am in the room with him...... when dogs, especially little guys, swallow the stuffing from plush toys they can end up in surgery. The GI tract gets blocked and there's a lot of discomfort involved. Since he tears up toys so frequently, I only buy soft toys that are on sale. I also, from time to time, just take an old washcloth that is no longer being used and I roll it up like a cigar and sew it up. That way, I don't mind that it gets thrown around and destroyed- plus it's soft without any of that dangerous stuffing. Of course, I still have to make sure he doesn't swallow any of the terrycloth, but it's less bother that the other soft toys.
My behaviorist suggested removing the stuffing from toys and replacing it with dry food, then sewing the toy back up. Romeo liked this, but he liked it too much and it became the sort of "favorite toy" that caused him to get aggressive... :eekdevil: you know, when they don't want you near their "favorite toy" and they'll kill you before they'll let you take it away from them. Needless to say, I don't give him food-filled toys anymore. But yours might do better... ???

Mia's favorite chewie is a piece of nylon rope formed into about a 3" in diameter circle and melted closed. She will also gnaw on a stuffed toy, baby nylabone, and round (real) raw beef soup bone. As long as it's not me! (I have a bruise on my forearm where she was sitting on my lap gnawing a toy and accidentally got me. Ouch!
