We had to put our Australian Terrier down today. He's so old, sick, and worn out. Our vet recommended this move. There is really nothing else she can do for him. I can't really talk now. I just wanted to say goodbye, sweet boy. We love you and we'll always miss you.

:candle: I'm so sorry to hear about Poor Brutus. That is probably one of the hardest decisions to have to make. Just keep remembering that he is running free at the rainbow bridge free from all pain. :hugs1: to you in this difficult time. I will keep you in my .

I'm so sorry for your loss :candle:
Brutus is running free and having tons of fun with all the puppers at Rainbow Bridge. This was a very hard decision, but probably one of the most un-selfish ones someone can make. Don't worry, your baby is happy in Rainbow Bridge. Now my three little ones have another great friend to play with.

We have a Brutus (or Brutie) . . . and we, like so many other DBBers have lost furkids too. We feel your pain! All of us that have lost a pupper . . . *know*.

Our deepest sympathies!

We are all *right here* . . . with you and for you.

Your Brutus (Brutie) is at the Bridge with Wimpy and all the others . . . waiting for us, while they play and enjoy perfect health. :)

Our "Brutie" was a pet store baby (back before anyone knew better). We had recently lost our first Mini Schnauzer, Fritz. My husband took our two girls to the mall - one for a haircut and one for new shoes. I was enjoying a peaceful afternoon alone, when all of a sudden a cocky little puppy ran into our family room. After him came my two elated daughters with no haircut or shoes followed by my rather guilty looking husband. Brutie was known for his
puppy-like behavior. In fact, you couldn't tell he was getting old until about two years ago. He was always ready to chase a ball or 'sit' for a treat. For the past five or so years he had been on medication for arthritis. He was in a lot of pain and had to be carried outside and back in. He slept most of the day and loved being on his bed by the fireplace. A couple of months ago, we began to notice that he was drinking tremendous amounts of water - whole bowls; then waiting for us to get more. Then he began to pee all over the house. We took him to the vet, and she did tests which proved him to be diabetic. He stayed in the hospital for a week, while they adjusted his meds and built his 'all bones' body back up as much as they could. We were giving him two shots a day to help manage the diabetes, and we thought he was doing better. Last night, he began to gasp for breath. We sat with him for awhile, and he came through. We took him to the vet this morning. She said that he was in an extreme amount of pain and that the diabetes was taking its toll on his heart. We met (the four of us) as a family and made the decision to let him go. My husband and one of my daughters went back to the vet's office to be with him. I just cannot get over the feeling that we could have held on longer or done better by him. Sorry this is so long. I don't usually write about Brutus. I just feel so bad for all of us. Even Heidi and Lizzy seem lonesome and unsure about what is happening.

Thanks for your concern and good thoughts. I'm sure it will take us some time to get past this...

Brutus is in wonderful company at the bridge. This grief center is not about dachshunds it is a place to share our loss. Most have been where you are. I personally on the 14th of October when I had to release Casey to the bridge. I asked the questions of myself, paced and cried and paced some more and the answers hurt so much but were best for him.

Brutus is no longer sick, no longer tired, and he will come bounding to you with joy when you meet again.

What a handsome pupper he was. Bless you and your family; I know it must be very hard for you right now. Cansles will be lit in VA. for Brutus.

I think one of the greatest gifts we have to give our animals is the ability to help them over the bridge at the end of their life. You did not make a hasty decision. Brutis was ailing and in pain, your vet would not tell you this if it were not true.

Brutis knew nothing but unconditional love his whole life, and even in the end he knew your actions were out of love.

Brutus was absolutely precious....What a beautiful boy!!! You are expressing the exact same feelings everyone who has had to help their puppy to the bridge has felt! It is natural, but the pain will have less sting in a little while and you will have fond memories of your sweet and hansome Brutus! Thanks for sharing him with us!

Thank you for sharing your Brutus with us. Seeing the love that he brought to your family is an uplifting thing. Even at this sad time. You were lucky to have found him. And he was a lucky little puppy when your husband and girls walked into that pet shop!

I'm sorry I'm late posting ere. I've been trying to find the time to dig out one of the grief poems that I think would fit Brutus. While I know you are feeling the pain of his loss right now try to concentrate on all the good times and happy moments you had with him.

I'm sorry you had to do this, but thank you for doing the right thing (it makes me ill when a furry child has to suffer when an adult can't make "the choice").
:grouphug: to your family during this painful time.

I sitting here at school feeling like a real baby. I went home yesterday and asked my daughter two times if someone had carried Brutus out (we had to actually carry him). Then after I said it each time, I fell apart. I'm still trying to take care of a dog who is gone. I'm sorry I keep talking about this. I just want to get over it, and it won't go away...
