Hi all. I was wondering if any of you ever dress your furbabies. It gets really nasty here in the winter and Iam worried about Buddy getting cold. Is there a good way to train your doggy to like wearing clothes? We haven't had a bad winter in a few years and we are due one. I really don't want him going out much and would like him to wear something. Thanks all.

To be honest, I don't know if there's a way you can TRAIN a dog to like the clothes. We live in the Northeast and it gets cold here too. Mickey tolerates his sweater. And when it's really cold, I think he might even appreciate it. But on those really cold wet days, sweater or no sweater, I still have to force his butt out the door to use the potty. He will not go volutarily. He hates to get his feeties and tummy wet.

Here's Owen in his winter polar fleece jkt. The problem is, his legs are way to short and I have to roll the sleeves up... and his chest is so deep and low that the jacket gets really dirty really fast. I live in San Diego, so it's never really so cold that he has to wear it, but he looks sooo cute in it!! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif

Quite handsome! Owee is one big stud muffin! Owen must have lots of girlfriends.... http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/love.gif

Mickey on the other hand isn't quite at the "big stud muffin" stage. I don't know if he'll ever be. He's at the "cute as a button" or "sweet as a bowl of sugar" stage. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/blushie.gif Well, at least until a stranger comes to the door and then you'll swear he's going to rip your leg off... http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

I just showed Buddy the pic of Owen and he seems quite impressed. Owen sure looks like a babe magnet in that jacket. Where do you find the clothes and so you think if Bud had to wear clothes it would rub some of his hair off? Also how do you size the clothes? Sorry for all the questions, Iam always planning ahead.

Owen's Mom, please tell us more about the clothes. I am concerned about winter here in northern Illinois. I hear winters can be reallllly cold and snowy. I hate cold. My underside gets dirty easy too. I have a sweeter I wear when it gets in the lower 70's. Brrrrrr. But it won't do for the cold at all. Help before I freeze my floppy ears as well as other parts this winter. I have thought about wintering with the Grandma in Florida, but don't want to leave the Momma and Dad that long. Owen you certainly are in the top 5 hunka hunka's. Becky Ann

Amy, dear:
Just before Christmas last, I found several online sites that handled coats and sweaters just for our long low little puppers.

A couple of places (I believe one was in Canada) will make one to order if you send in all the correct dimensions, including stubby legs.
I thought they were pretty reasonable, price wise.
Unfortunately, the shipping time did not allow me to get one specifically for Greta, last year.
If anyone is really interested I will scrounge around in my folders and see what I can find.

My boyfriend's mother made coats for my boys. They are polar fleece on the inside and have a layer of waterproof fabric on the outside. They do up with velcro but I'll suggest snaps in the future. Because of the waterproof layer, it keeps their underbelly dry and wipes clean.

I'm sure she'd easily be able to make them to the desired weight. Not everyone needs one warm enough for a Canadian winter.

I'll post a picture soon if I can get Oscar to show his off. With the exchange working to your benefit (eh?), I think they will be very reasonable.

She's a whiz with the sewing machine and has two cute grandwieners as models.

I'll put a bee in her bonnet... and then I'll ask her if she's still interested in wiener accessories.

Twodogslong,
You are making this too easy for me. I'd rather forget the commercial vendors and buy from your boyfriends Mother, if she says she'd be interested.
Please let us know,
Roxane

Hi guys,

My Grandmother knitted Willi a sweater last winter. Unfortunately, he jumped up and down like a "jumping bean" until I took it off. I looked last winter at PetSmart for a fleece jacket but couldn't find anything in his size because his legs are so stumpy http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif

Let me know what you find out....
