Look at this post at the Zone. I'm not going to assume that they don't love thier dachsie, but rather they can't afford to get her the treatment she needs. She's been relegated to the garage, and she's sick!! It's tearing me up... Can either group offer some help?

Amy, I e-mailed her. I don't think we can ask her to surrender her dog, but I have made the suggestion--and also suggested what medicine to ask the vet for.
Trying to remain calm.....,

I CAN'T believe that stress would cause BLOOD in the stool! Hemroids, yes, but not stress. Maybe that Vet is correct, but it sure surprises me. I hope the family acts FAST and do what is right for Nutmeg (cute namehttp://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif!). Maybe it's Parvo?http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/frown.gif

Just so everyone knows... It appears that the owners of Nutmeg are now in contact with Tom Flynn (he's a saint) from DRNA. Let's continue to think good thoughts for little Nutmeg

Amy, thank you for the update. I have been waiting and hoping for that. More rays and prayers for little Nutmeg on their way. Please keep us posted if you can.

Stress can cause bloody diarrhea. If the poor dog is being put outside in the garage, that would only increase her stress and make the problem worse. Usually with stress related diarrhea, a little kaopectate and a bland diet will clear it up. This poor pup could have anything from an intestinal blockage to a tumor. They aren't going to find out what is wrong without doing some tests. I doubt that it is parvo in a 5 year old dog however.

Agreed W.Wieners.... They would have found Parvo at the vet immediately. Penny's Aunt made the great suggestion that it could well be Giardia. Owen picked it up and it wasn't detected for several weeks, all the while there was bloody stools and he kept losing wieght and got the point where he wouldn't eat or drink. I thought my baby boy was going to die! I slept with him on the couch every night and the second he'd make a peep, I'd run him outside to poop. I can't even imagine locking him in the garage, away from his momma
