Hi, My names is Toby, I am 7 months old. Last weekend I met a fellow wennier and he was sporting a great hat. Does any dog know a good online place where I can get myself one of these. My mom thinks that I need one to keep the sun out of my eyes. I want a hat because it will make me look great!http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif

I don't know about those hats but I do dad made me try on one of those visor things just before the fourth of July at one of these Pet something stores Petco, Petsmart? Let me tell you while it shaded my eyes it also acted as a blinder so I couldn't see anything above eye level with out cranking my head up. The straps also bothered my ears I sure was trying to scrape that thing off till dad finally took it off of me. I glad dad decided not to buy it. At the weenie roast I saw several others with visors or hats on and all but one was fighting to get them off.

Thanks for the advice. I never thought about Toby not being able to see up very well. Because he is so short, I don't think that I should add to the problem by getting him a hat. It was just a cute thing I saw. But I didn't really consider the draw backs to it. Thanks.

My mom was looking for a hat for Oscar. He loves to stick his head out the car window. But, he hates getting the wind in his ears. She figured if she could get him something to hold his ears down that he could keep his head out the window the whole time.

She envisioned one of those leather pilot bomber's helmets, with the goggles!!! Whooo! Wouldn't that be a sight???!!!http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/silly.gif
Anyone know where to get one of THOSE?

OK, we admit it...we are a sick, dachshund-crazed family...what can we say? My dad tells us we need to get our heads examined all the time!

Toby does not like to get wind in his ears either. But that does not stop him from trying to stick his whole body out the window. When he is in the car he has to wear a harnes and leash so I can keep him from falling right out the window as we are driving down the road. He loves to see everything!http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/hapfac01.gif I have tryed to find a web site that will sell the kind of hats I envisioned. I never found one however I did come across some very unusuall dog hats. But not the kind your mom was looking for. If she ever finds one I would like to see what Oscar looks like.http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif

OK, some of you weren't around last winter, so I will tell you my dachshund "hat" story. My older girl (she has asked me to stop referring to her as the "OLD" girl...), Peaches, has lost almost all the hair on her ears; there's just a very thin layer. In the winter, I can't take her for walks in sub-freezing temperatures with naked ears, because the skin is so thin that she could easily get frostbite. What to do...what to do?...

Well, I made her a snood. I took a thick cotton sport sock and cut it both below and above the heel, making a kind of L shape. Once she had her sweater on, I pulled the sock "cap" up over her nose and tucked the longer upper part in the collar of her sweater. The other end stopped just above her eyes, and the sock held her ears in firmly. She looked like a little Russian babushka! After the first time, she had no problem wearing it. It saves her ears and, I must say, looks kinda cute!

OK, Mickamack, who's crazy now??? http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif

Pamela, you really can't describe that sock-snood thing without a picture. We're waiting...

If Pamela didn't get a photo of Peaches in her snood, she should be beaten with a leash! Come on, show us!

Yes, we must see a picture of Peaches in her snood so we can all one some for our dachsies. Ok, I live in south GA where it's 100+ degrees, but we want one too! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/kiss.gif

Please tell me you have a pic of this. My Grandma used to wear those things http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif

Seriously though, that was quite creative on your part and it sounds like it does the trick.
