I swear some people just should not be allowed to have dogs. Yesterday when I took Frank and the new guy Tanner out shopping I had another customer at Pet-Co come up and ask if either of my dachshunds were male and then if they were fixed. She was looking for someone to mate with her female. Can you imagine picking a mate at Pet Co. To show just how responsible she was one of my boys is a mini the other a standard. She was especially interested in Tanner before I told her both boys were fixed (and boy was I glad of that fact) since he is a dapple and she has a dapple. She had no clue about the dangers of a dapple to dapple mating which I lectured her on. What makes her think she is qualified to be responsible for a good dachshund mating and pups. I had to use a lot of self control not to read her a five minute riot act on how irresponsible she was. Thanks for letting me vent.

I've met my share of doh-de-doh dog owners at the pet store too, Frank. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/angry.gif Good for you for passing on important information to this yahoo! She will no doubt breed her female, which is a shame, but you might have prevented some true breeding disaster by giving her the info on dapple-dapple crosses.

So a big gold star for you!!! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

What a dip stick!! I had the same thing happen to me when the girls and I were out for one of our mega walks. This woman pulls up in her disreputable vehicle and, I kid you not, with a cigarette dangling out of her mouth, asks if my girls needed a stud! I turned her offer down....Dolly and Maddie are fixed and wouldn't be interested anyway as they would ONLY mate to improve the breed. We got outta there FAST. I can't believe the ingorant dachsie owners out there. Thanks to this board and others, I have learned ALOT!

Sandi, I am cracking up at your message!! "Disreputable vehicle????" http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/uh-oh.gif What a picture I have of this woman!! She's tooling down the highway in a rusted-out 1972 pickup that has no discernible paint left on it, no windows, sprung upholstery, and half a floorboard, and it is surrounded by a cloud of flies... There's no bumper left, only a wooden plank that's been hammered onto the truck body, and it bears a bumper sticker that says, MY OTHER CAR IS A CADILLAC. She's wearing an old chenille bathrobe that isn't quite closed, and she's got a cigarette dangling out of her mouth, ancient sponge rollers in her hair, a hat on her head made of beer cans and crochet yarn, and when she talks, she sounds just like Harvey Fierstein!!! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif

Owen's Mom

That's funny you bring this up... I was outside my place with Owen, walking him around the little side yard saying "go potty Owen... come on... go potty" when a man flips a U-turn, parks his car and asks if he can breed his female who's in heat with my boy. He has a strong East European accent and I'm not sure I got through to him. I very gently explained that Owen has been fixed and he might consider fixing his female. He kept saying how she was in season and driving them crazy and she needed a boy. Didn't say if she was a mini or a standard, a long hair, or a smooth... color of coat.. nothing, except she "needed" a boy dog to mate with. Oy Vey!!!

When Sandi and I were at the dachshund picnic, some man walked by with his three dachsies... a baby (maybe 4 months old?) and the mom and dad. He readily admitted to Sandi (almost bragging) that the momma was 1 year and a month old. WHAT!!?? She wasn't even a year when she was bred the 1st time. I have no doubt that he was going to breed her again.

GRrrrrr... now I'm steaming!!!

Pam,

When I first was reading your description of the "disreputable truck lady" the whole time I kept thinking......don't forget the sponge rollers http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif

You did forget the cup she uses to spit her chewing tobacco in and the little statue on the dash that reads:

-I don't care if it rains or freezes, as long as I have my plastic Jesus.....

Now what is wrong with a '72 pickup? No self respecting red neck would drive anything else.

You know your love life is in bad shape when the dogs get more propositions than you do.

We stopped at a rest stop on our way back from the national specialty and set up our ex-pens to let the puppies potty. We had people driving by asking if they were for sale, needed homes, etc. On the way to the specialty, our van broke down in Christianburg, VA. We were sitting around the travel trailer in the parking lot of the Chevey dealer with the dogs in the x-pens waiting for the van to be repaired. People kept driving through the lot going oh how cute, do they need homes? http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif

Pam, you forgot the metal clothes hanger in place of the radio antenna...

If you haven't had a "pickup" offer like this, you probably WOULDN'T believe it. When I used to walk my beautiful Belgian Tervuren, people would stop to ask if she were spayed, & say they had a stud German Shepherd they wanted to breed. These idiots were so dumb they didn't even seem to notice that my dog WASN'T even of the same breed as theirs! Not that a tiny fact like that would have stopped them from registering any pups as purebred GSDs...
