Hi all, I just wanted to see how many people in VA and around would like to come to a fun in the sun day at my Doxie ranch in central VA? Maybe this spring? If I get enough folks who want to come out we will plan it. I have a 5 acre Doxie ranch on a park like setting with a one acre pond and picnic tables etc. I have fenced areas and room to set up Doxies races, have booths etc. It will of course have a rescue theme and there can be a chance to meet adoptable Doxies if there are some available at the time. Mostly a day of fun and a time to meet and share our favorite furry friends! Feel free to e-mail me if you would be interested.

Sounds like alot of fun....but my dachsies are not very friendly around other animals, they act like they own everything. I would probably have my hands full and you guys would get tired of the endless barking.
By the way how do you get your dachsies not to bark at EVERYTHING?

:welcome: Well, it looks like I will go ahead and make plans then since several of you will attend. If no one shows we are a family of 13 counting Doxies so we will still have a fun picnic! LOL  What I need to do is find out from a DRNA member and probably AHDR & Southen States, etc. when their picnics are so we don't conflict. I will then set a date and put the info here and on my site. For all those in Canada, the UK, Mexico and even Mars we welcome you as long as you have or love Doxies!!!!
If anyone knows of any Doxie or small dog item vendors who may want to attend let me know who they are we and I will invite them. People love to shop for fun Doxie things when they are at these functions and some of the proceeds can come back to rescue which is very helpful. I look forward to seeing you all there!!! More info to come. :cheer:

Hi all and thank you for the great response! We are now thinking probably early to mid July as my two oldest daughter's schedules are crazy til then. My oldest daugher is graduating high school this year on both coasts and both girls will fly back and forth between here and CA until the end of June so I want them both here to enjoy this event and of course to help.. LOL Anyone who has Doxies who may be a little aggressive or barky you can bring an ex-pen and they can be in there and bark all they want. My dogs will be barking too so no worries. My husband will have a few poles out so anyone who wants to can do some catch and release fishing in our pond. Now if someone does catch a fish you have never heard hysterical barking like the Hounds of Harmony can do.. LOL I thought Doxies were supposed to hunt badgers not fish! Who knew... LOL
They sound just like a pack of hounds on the hunt! We will crack up and won't mind if your babies sing along : ) I don't know that we could get another picnic together again as soon as Oct for our long distance friends but we will see.

We would love to attend as well, schedule permitting. Central VA isn't too far from NE Ohio...at least not when you have dachsies to keep you company, and considering some of our DBB friends from Canada may join us. Sounds like a blast.

Hi there -
Thought you would be interested in knowing there is a picnic scheduled for Saturday, October 7, 2006, at the Prince William County Fairgrounds in Manassas, VA. This will be our 5th annual picnic. It is called the Mid-Atlantic Dachshund Peast (Picnic). Sometimes you will see it referred to as MADP.
Last year we have several vendors to include Dachshund Delights, professional photographer, presentations by animal trainers and Dr. Kim Danoff.
We would be more than interested in including you on our committee and any others that are interested in making the 2006 MADP the best ever!
Thanks!

Depends on where in Montgomery County you are. I did a MapQuest from Rockville and it was about 2 hours and 40 minutes.

Looks like about 3 hours 20 minutes from the Baltimore area.
Both of these are approximate since I didn't have any of the actual addresses.

Thanks, Connie. Rockville is just about right, I'm only about 10mins north of there.

Thanks Belinda, I will be at the Oct picnic for sure. I sell all the Dachshund Delights stuff too so I will have plenty of that. I also am a Lupine distributor so count me in of you need more stuff. I use most all the proceeds for my Rescue so anything helps. I can't wait to meet everyone too!

OK all picnicers I am nailing down a date and you all let me know if this works for you. I am looking at Saturday July 15th. I am getting ready to put up my final fencing so there will be no escapees and if all goes well the new Doxie areas will also be built. I will have 3-4 picnic tables and a set up for Doxie races. We will have a rescue booth where available doxies can be met. We already have a waiting list of area Doxies who will need homes. (prior arrangements must be made to pick up a Doxie that day) We have a canoe and will have pond tours for you and any water lovin furkids .. LOL and my hubby just added 3000 fish to the pond so we will have catch and release fishing, a raffle, shopping, some games and plenty of time to just enjoy each others company and meet everyone's Doxies. Just bring you and your Doxies, ex pens if you have them a blanket or two and be ready to have fun. We will have hotdogs and chips and sodas/tea etc. so no need to bring lunch if you are coming from far away. The time will be set up at 10am and we will be open to picnicers till 5pm. I am in Jetersville, VA (23083) for any who need to mapquest the trip. I can locate pet friendly accomodations for anyone who may need them. (unless you want to pitch a tent here at Harmony.. LOL)
Can't wait to meet you all and your sweet babies!!

That date works for me. I am checking with a friend who has a dachshund/beagle mix because I wouldn't want to do the drive alone.
Do you want or mind if I share the info the the Baltimore Dachshund meetup group?
Heck... camping in your yard with a bunch of dachshunds actually sounds fun to me (am I crazy?) hehehe.

ahh we're supposed to be on our way to Hatteras, NC for vacation that same day!! Christopher says we could probably stop by, but we're only taking 2 out of 4 on vacation with us, so only the girls would get to come (the boys are bad boys anyways)! We'll just see how it works out. It may be that we will be to tired to stop and then drive the 8 hours there.

You're in Northern VA right, I think this drive would be around 6 hours for you, maybe even less..i'm not the person whose good with directions, Christopher is. You could even get up early saturday, and drive down..and drive back saturday evening. He should just try to get Saturday off, does he work everyday? I know how many doxie things I missed when we first had ours because I "couldn't" take off the weekend.
I hope you find a way to work it out.

Actually we live in south easter VA so it would be a 2 1/3 -3 hour drive. We could definantly drive up the day of.

Yeah it's very common for him to have 6-7 day work weeks. :sorry: Though I have good and bad news. I was talking to him and because the ship yard he works at is going to be getting really busy soon he may not be able to get off for the 4th of July weekend. That's the bad news because that means we may not be able to go camping in the mountains that weekend. But the good news is that means we very well may be able to make the picnic!! :yahoo: :party6: :cheer: If he gets the weekend of the 4th off he can't ask for the other weekend off because he will be asking for 2 Sundays off in June. What would be the best situation will be him getting the weekend of the 4th off and then finding out he doesn't have to work the 17th and 18th. Then we could do both! :D Keep your fingers crossed for me!!:crsfnger:

Hi All, yes the final date os 7/15/06 from 10:30am to 5:30pm and for those who wish to join us for the weenie roast at the ranch campout you can pitch a tent and stay over of you like. You'll have to use the bathroom in my little house but if you don't mind I don't mind. We will roast mellows, sing songs and watch the fire flies into the night. For those who are not campers we will post info for pet friendly motels in the next town on our site and here by 6/15/06. We love all dogs here at Harmony but we caution anyone who has large dogs as it can cause a big ruccus with some Doxies. (mine  ) Many Doxies are fearful of larger dogs and we don't want to spend the whole day dealing with irate Doxies. If you have a large dog(s) and cannot leave home without them please contact me directly to let me know. Thanks!!! badgerdogbren@yahoo.com

..........that's too bad about the "larger dogs". :sorry: I know - dachsies have that napoleon complex which scares MY large dogs half to death. (Maisie is practising that with my guys - they really do respect her. )
Then I'm afraid I'll have to pass because there's no way I can leave my big guys at home for more than six hours.......... :sorry:
........but nonetheless - we do expect a loooooooooooot of pics from you guys ! :D

Hi Everyone,
Brenda & I chatted about some Rescue Fund Raisers for the Picnic on July 15 & she asked me to post some ideas.
Bake Sale - Anyone interested in & able to do some baking for a bake sale at the picnic ?! Proceeds to Doxie Rescue. Cupcakes, cookies, cakes & brownies... What do you think ?!
Raffle - We need some additional "good stuff" to raffle away... does any one have some items to donate ?!
Thanks!!!
