Hello All

I've been reading for a couple of days and decided to jump in. I adopted a mini. She was found wandering the streets of downtown Tampa by my dil. We posted signs in the area she was found ,put ads in the local newspapers.ect

After 3 weeks no one claimed her. I took her to the vet and she is underweight 7lbs (wish I had that problem). She was never spayed is approx 1.5 years old.

I had her spayed and tested for heartworms. she was mildly to moderately infected ,being treated now. She comes home tonight.

The vet said after spaying her that she has had MANY puppies, he said her uterus was a mess. Maybe a breeding dog.

She is in my heart already, what a sweet girl she is.

Im from Boston originally, her name is Mya. In your best Boston accent say Oscar "Mayer" weiner, and you'll "get" her name, Mya....LOL

She could not have come into my life at a better time. I just found out Monday that my Rottie has osteosarcoma, the oncologist only gives her a couple of months. Mya will never take her place but my heart will not be quite so empty.

Once I figure out how to post pictures I will post one.

Dottie

Dear Dottie: :welcome8: So happy you've found us! I gather you live in Tampa, Florida where it's sunny! :D I love the name Mya & she sounds like a doll. Is she Red, B & T, otherwise, etc. - - you're right, 7# is really small. Sounds like she's had a rough life up to now & she found you just in time,:pullhair:  before they could breed her again. As you read the Board every day, you will realize they are breeding puppies like rabbits, regardless of their bloodlines, genetic issues, etc. It's so sad :sorry: & Florida is absolutely FULL of them because people go there to retire & then they end up in rest homes or pass away & usually, the relatives don't want them so half the time, they just "turn them loose" to fend for themselves. It's very, very sad. Add to that the puppymills and back-yard-breeders, & you have a mess. With the invention of the Internet, it's gone stark raving mad.

I am soooo happy for Mya.:D Sounds like she has landed the perfect home with you. Please tell us more about yourself & Mya. :thanx: There are people on this site who can instruct you on how to "post pictures". It's under Technical Support! We LOVE pics.:cheer: I have yet to post any, but it's just around the corner. Glad to hear from you. You will LOVE this Board; we have a wonderful cross section of people here, from ALL ages and parts of the country. Our Members run from Calif. to Florida. You will also find emotional suppoort for things you can't control:sorry: & lots of congratulations when things go well. Hoping to hear from you soon. Gay & The Gang

Wow they could be litter mates....how old is Kipper and how much does he weigh, My vet says Mya is underweight,to be honest I have no idea what she should weigh. All I know is you can see her spine.

I will get her healthy!!!! I just don't want her to be overweight.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome...I think we have found our home away from home!!

Mya is a beautiful pupper. The longhairs are so pretty, but I know the shedding would drive me nuts, lol.

I'm so glad that the two of you found each other.

:welcome8: to the best doxie board on the planet. Mya is such a darling, she is so cute. Yes, I can hear her name in a Boston accent but it is a little easier for me b/c right now I am in Warwick, RI.
Now that you have figured out how to post pics we expect more! We here can never get enough pics of doxies

Again :welcome8:

They are best of friends, Mya is always trying to get Ozzy to chase her,she will nudge him with her nose while he is asleep.

Good thing for her he is used to dogs and is very good natured. He still has claws!!!

Mya is not a barker. So doesn't do that all day at Ozzy .she will do a little woof now and then when she wants my attention.

:welcome8: It is fate how these little ones are put in our path. I was not looking for a dog when my Valentin came into my life. He looks very much like Mya too. Valentin is a brindle long hair.

Mya should weigh around 10 pounds, but each dog is an individual and your vet is the best to guide you regarding the ideal weight for her frame.

We are all looking forward to more Mya pictures and stories:welcome8:

Some day perhaps I'll have a long hair or a wire hair myself - in the meantime, I'll just get my fix by enjoying pictures of others' lovely furkids. (Not that I don't love mine, of course.)

Looks like Mya found you just at the right time - sounds like she has a great new home and hoomom to adore. So sorry about your ill one - it would be great if they all outlived us. I believe their leaving us is harder on us than on them, for the most part.

Thank you for rescuing a beauty, and letting her into your life and heart. You'll never regret it. I can never say enough good things about those who take in lost furkids and give them the wonderful life they deserve. THANK YOU! If the world was full of people like you, rescuers (and shelters) would be unnecessary - wouldn't that be nice?

And Welcome to DBB!!!:welcome:

:welcome: to DBB!!!

Mya is one pretty little princess. I'm so happy she found the right home, and that the "puppy factory" was closed down, at least in her case. I'm so sorry to hear about Nala.

:welcome8: What a beautiful girl you rescued. Bless you. She is a tiny little thing isn't she? The 1st picture of her on the couch she looks fine, but the one with the cat you could see how thin she is. But not to worry, they tend to put on a few pounds after spaying. Did the vet know how ols she is? She looks awful young, especially to have had babies. Sorry to hear about your Rottie. Just like you said looks like Mya arrived just in time. She'll change your life.

Annie

SHe is around 1 and 1/2 to 2. she is thin only 7 lbs,her spine is very pronounced. Hopefully once all her health issues are addressed she will fatten up a little.

She looks real good, I just picked her up from her 1st round of heartworm treatments.

Now to keep her crated. SHE IS NOT HAPPY IN THE CRATE!

Kipper is 10 months old and weighs 7 lbs. He has a very small frame so I think 7lbs is good on him. He is all muscle and is a very solid pup!

From the pictures Mya looks fine to me but if the vet says she needs some weight then I would go with what he says. Just make sure she keeps a trim waistline and she should be ok.

Welcome to the board. It seems some how the right dog can find us at the right time in many different ways. I'll let others with heart worm experience answer your questions in your other post. Mya will become a very special companion helping your through the tough times ahead.

Interestingly enough, Schatz, my smoothie sheds three times as much as Kipper.
