I don't know if some of you remember a month or so ago I posted some pictures of Beau on his playdate with my sisters dog, Cuddles.
They took Cuddles to the vet today because she had been having accidents (very unlike her) and of an unusual color. Turns out she had a very serious tumor which was most likely colon cancer, and had to be put down tonight--would have been too painful for her to even stay the weekend. So, they took her home to say goodbye (they have three kids) and sent an e-mail to the rest of the family (including me). Unfortunatly, Beau and I didn't get a chance to go say goodbye because I was at college an hour away, but I like to think they had a very fun last playdate.
My sister's house has always been my second home, and I spend many times puppy sitting Cuddles. I know you all understand so I'd like to just write about what a great dog she was!
My sister rescued Cuddles about 10 years ago when she was a pup of only 1 or 2. My sister had a baby girl about a year ago, and ever since she was born Cuddles would follow her everywhere. Cuddles used to sleep in their big bed, but after the baby was born she would sleep in the hallway outside the babies bedroom. It even got so that when my sister was working downstairs and the baby was napping upstairs, she didn't even have to use the baby monitor because Cuddles would come down and bark at my sister when they baby started to cry. Cuddles lived all her life on only three legs, but she never would have noticed! She ran as fast as any dog I've seen.
Thanks for listening to my memories of Cuddles! Everyone is just happy she is not suffering anymore.

Dog speed Cuddles. Our Bridge candle is lit tonight to help show you the way. The big, laid back golden, Champ, will look after you until your humans come for you.

I'm typing this through my tears. I'm so sorry about Cuddles please give your sister my deepest sympathies.
And big :hug2: to you. This must be a very sad time for you. You don't have to "own" them to love them.
Thank you for sharing her story with us, she sounds like she was a very special part of the family.

Im so sorry for your loss. This poem is a wonderful tribute to all our lost furbabies
I wish someone had given little Jesus a dog
As loyal and loving as mine
To sleep by His manger and gaze in His eyes
And adore him for being devine.
As our Lord grew to manhood His faithful dog
Would have followed him all through the day
While he preached to the crowds,
Made the sick well
And knelt in the garden to pray.
It is sad to remember that Christ went away
To face death alone and apart
With no tender dog following close behind
To comfort the Master's heart.
When Jesus rose that easter morn,
How happy He would have been as His dog
Kissed His hand and barked its' delight
For the one who had died for all men.
Well, the Lord has a dog now;
I just sent him mine, the one so dear to me-
And I smile through my tears
On this first day alone
Knowing they are in eternity.

Thank you everyone for your support! My sister and I had a long talk the other day that made us both feel better about the whole thing. She mentioned that because she has three kids, Cuddles wasn't like a child to her (like Beau is to me), but more like an equal--or a friend. She would watch the kids, and Cuddles would watch the kids. She asked me if I thought it was too soon to get a new dog, and I told her I thought Cuddles would be happy to know that a new dog would be there to protect them like she did.
She said she would only get a dog if she found one that seemed right to them--and she just found one on petfinder yesterday where the dog was actually photographed laying next to a baby! He was found on the side of the road with ciggerette burns in his legs, and he was really skinny--but they've gotten him back to health and he is ready for adoption! She's filled out the applications and waiting to here from someone. He is a yellow lab mix. She's still nervous about bringing a new dog in so soon, but I think Cuddles wouldn't mind! And Beau will be happy too!
Thanks again to everyone here...I just think people who have dogs understand that it's not just a dog, it's a friend. Thanks!
