Okay this is more a vent than anything constructive....but I'm just ANNOYED:
My husband and I and our little darlins' live in a nice, middle class neighborhood with about 3 million dogs. What I want to know is WHY CAN'T ANYONE PICK UP THEIR DOG'S POOPIES? It really snarks me out that when I take Chaucer for a walk, I have to drag him away from dog poop over and over again.
The people that live in this meighborhood tend to have largeish dogs--so there are largeish poops. And, today, in a walk less than a mile long, I had to drag poor Chaucer away from at least seven obvious dog poops.
It ticks me off--I'm expected to pay home owner association fees, I have to live by their code...and I can't even walk my freakin' dog without having to worry about him picking up something from munching down another dog's doo-doo....
ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. What is so freakin' hard about bringing along a baggie. Could someone please explain that to me?

I run into this too. Can you complain to the owners assoc? I think most people just do not THINK about it. They grab the pup, head out the door and when "poop" happens, they just hope no one is watching. There is an old guy here with a schnauzer and they walk in themiddle of the street. I guess he thinks if his pup poops at least it's not on the lawn or sidewalk. But it's just as nasty to roll the car tires over it all the time.
Other than the owners assoc. I have no idea what you can do. . . . except teach Chaucer the "leave it" command. My guys have gotten pretty good at it due to poop mines all around.

I think you have your rights to vent...
Maybe you could carry a little squirt bottle along for awhile filled with some type of doggie "Off" juice and give the poop a toot when giving the Command!
Our lovely rott/dob Sadie Mae is a real piggy when it comes to relieving herself. We have 7 acres of poop space, yet she goes on the paths and walkways if she can! I think she's sort of retarded...

This makes me mad too. I too have to pull Oscar away from other dog poop. I worry that he might catch something. He does know 'leave it' but always gets a sniff in before I see what he's sniffing. Luckily for us Oscar will only do #2 in his own yard. I've stepped in other dogs poop in my front yard. I cant wait to catch someone letting there dog poop in my yard!
Also, other dogs will dig up stuff, like mulch and small plants. Can you believe people let their dogs do that?

If you see someone's dog pooping & they don't pick it up, get your shovel, scoop it up, then dump it on their front porch. I only had to do this twice to one of my neighbors in Las Vegas before they got the message.
Maybe the word will get around.
And if the officers of the homeowner's assoc. won't do anything, scoop it ALL up & dump it on THEIR porch. If they don't like it, tell them to deal with it.
(Note: I went on a casual retreat to Oregon a couple of weekends ago - no men, no kids, no pets. Five of us out of the 8 are dog people, 3 of the 5 had plastic bags in our pockets, & we didn't even have dogs with us!)

Penny's Aunt,
This is one time your advice is dangerous. I know of one person in my town who tried your suggestion and ended up convicted of a misdemeanor. She had to pay a fine, do some community service and attend a counseling session.
With my two boys I never leave home without at least three bags along. Even if Frank has just gone before we leave he never makes it more than three blocks from home before he has to go again.

Once again, the VICTIM is in the wrong here...according to Today's laws. Before I read Penny's Aunt's response, I was basically going to say the same thing. Infact my dad did this very thing a long time ago (in the '60's). This neighbor would release her dog to do its business every morning. Just let it go where ever it pleased in the neighborhood. Dad got sick of this dog crapping in his front yard and picked up the poop and knocked on the neighbors door and informed her that her dog had left something behind. I guess those where gentler times because though the neighbor had her nose tweaked out of joint that my dad would do this to her, there was no lawsuit or complaint sworn out. People are ridiculous these days with their screaming about "their rights!" Arrrrrgh, indeed!
