we recently have added two new pets, guinea pigs, so far Jaz seems ok with them, they can't bite her, and she only licks them. just wondering if anyone else has had these and if so, any problems? they are never out of their cage unattended, so not worried about her eating them or anything, more concerned if they could transmit any type disease to her.

Hiya!
I feel that if Jazzy is young enough she'll prob. accept the piggies. Because of what dachsies were bred to do to rodents- I wouldn't leave her alone with them either!
If the piggies are clean, then I don't think Jazzy can catch much.

Piggies can catch human viruses though! So be really careful handling them when YOU have a cold...

HI wildpsychochick. I have a five month old black/tan smooth male dachshund and two little mice. I have let him sniff them when they are in my hands and all he does is lick them too. In the beginning he seemed to want to take a little nip but he never did. I have even put one of the mice on his body and he accepted it just fine. It's pretty cool having them both face to face sniffing each other. I dont know what he'd do if he was alone with them but. all he seems to want to do is sniff and lick them.

thanks for the info, they are still getting along fine, and yes we are careful not to leave her alone with them, she lays on one side of my lap and they play all around her. it's really cute! the only concern we have is that she and the cat,(her buddy) may conive some evil DWD plan and figure out how to get in the cage!!! shouldn't happen, but i could see Jazzy calling the cat to unlatch her crate and the two causing chaos!!!!
