View Full Version : Should they have rabies tags on in a crowd?

I am bringing the boys to an event with other dogs, and was wondering, are they supposed to wear their Rabies tags all the time? I don't expect any problems, but you never know.

I can't stand the jingling noise, and that is why they don't wear them now.

Thanks.

The major advantage of the tag is that the dog can often be traced through it if he gets lost.

The real medical value lies in the paper certificate that you got at the same time, with his description, etc., if he were to nip someone.

I once saw a rabies tag that had had another hole drilled into the opposite side, & the whole tag was stitched to the dog's collar with that heavy button thread. Maybe for the same reason you don't like it?

Just for funny: we had a dog that was wearing a rabies & an ID tag. Whenever he was in the house & jingled the tags, he would activate the remote control in the TV & change the channels!

Even if they are not wearing the tags -you should have them with you and some other form of ID on the dog. -see my post "neat ID tactic" for some good ideas on non-jingling ways to ID the dog. The plates riveted to collars and the Steel ID tube are easy ways to have their rabies # on them without the jingle.

in our city, dogs can be confiscated -or you can be fined -for not showing proof of license and vaccination.

Augie has the red rabies tag and the gold county tag jingling around his neck. I like it cause I always know where he is.

Christmas will be great, just add antlers and a red nose. <IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm42.gif" border=0>
