OK, Dachsie Lovers . . .
The Midwest Dachsie Festival (and DWD training for members) is on for October 14 in Yellow Springs, Ohio at John Bryan State Park.
This park allows dogs (on leash) and their hoomans. This is an open shelter--the parks and many other places I called do not want a small herd 'o wiener dogs in their enclosed shelters. The shelter I saw (and Krista agreed) is quite nice with two fireplaces (one at either end) and with a pretty trail one can walk by the river--it holds many nice smells and small critters and was given two dew claws up by Isobel. We can all bring a dish, jackets or coats for both parties and drinks. The only cost, if we want, will be for firewood. Krista and I will get there first as it's a first come- first serve kinda thing.
I can send people info on hotels in Springfield and Yellow Springs if need be and pass on my pager# and home phone also. Feel free to pass on this info to any Dachsie lover you know who may be interested. If you have any ideas for games and such, please let Krista or myself knw and we will do what we can to get stuff together.
I'm so excited!!!! and I can't wait to meet y'all and your puppers.
Please let me know, either on this board or by my email mdachs@email.msn.com if you are coming and what dish/snacks you will be bringing. If Krista agrees, oh Krista!!, send the info to her also so we can coordinate everything.
This will be so much fun . . . maybe we can get this thing going every year if we want!
See ya soon!!!

The park is lovely and very large!!! It is a state Reserve and many deer and other furry friends find refuge there.
The shelters are nice and Fall here is usually fairly mild. Yellow springs is about 30 minutes south east of Dayton. the nicest places to stay would be in Beavercreek -about 20 minutes from the park.
Please do let me know too -as Mary suggested. I will be happy to help coordinate this long awaited for event.
If doing an internet search for hotels that are pet friendly, cities that are all near-by are:
Beavercreek
Fairborn
Xenia
Springfield
Dayton
Camp Sites are also available in the Park.
I live in Huber Heights right on I-70. It is about a 25-30 minute drive to the park from here, but we have Holiday Inn Express, Comfort Inn, Days Inn, Motel Super 8 which are all right off the interstate and easily located. I live within 5 minutes of all of them.
feel free to email me with any questions or if I can help.
Lets try to get as many people and puppers as we can!!!

Directions from I75 would be helpful - I will be coming up from Lexington, KY. I need to think about a dish to bring along... Will let you know on that.

A good way to get directions is to go to yahoo and click on driving directions (may have to click on maps and then drving directions) then you can input the addresses and directions pop up.
There are several ways to get there from I-75. I'll ask my mom -who is a whiz with the best ways to get anywhere- which way is best and let you know.

hello all,
wanted to let you know that a friend of mine (who's a human/animal massage therapist) may be coming to the fest and giving a talk/demo. she's wonderful and very knowledgable about canine anatomy and massage. she also does polarity and meridians and hopefully will talk about these too.
she and i also talked about having the 2nd annual fest at her school "spirit creek healing arts academy" next summer. she's giving me great ideas for fun and games, some we may not be able to do this time around, but for the 2nd and 3rd, etc. we can do it all! a friend of mine is also donating firewood for the fest--so that is a plus. bless his heart!
i'm really looking forward to meeting all of you and esp. those wonderful dachsies
clarese--i'm glad you can come. isobel is looking forward to meeting your two babies! kris, will you and yours be able to join us? i hope so.
mark--my sister (who still lives in detroit) may come down . . . so we can have a mich-fest while we're at it!
i'm going to be printing up maps and directions for any who need it--just let me know and i'll snail-mail it to you.

Awwwww, s'no'fair! Have been torturing myself reading about this, promise you'll post lots of pictures and have a great time!
Count us in . . . date & time sounds ok as far as I can tell.
Krista . . . I'm guessing you listed those hotels because they allow pets? No problem, if we need to call to find out, just curious if that's been checked already.
Myself, Char, Duck Butter and Masse for sure . . . not sure if we'll bring Top Spin or not, yet. He is an Agent of the DWD, after all. LOL http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif If there are any objections that he comes . . . please post so we know to board him somewhere.
Looking forward to meeting everyone & the kids we're always talking about.

Well, I keep forgetting to call and ask for the pet policy. I assume you could also find the chain's policy online since many hotels have a website and those are all fairly common ones.
I'm pretty sure Travelodge takes pets -and I forgot to mention that one is right off I-70 too near me.
I'll try to some calling around this week and let you all know of a list of hotels that accept pets.

Mark,
I don't see a problem with bringing Top Spin. Since he is DWD . . . .and I haven't been face-to-fece with a Catahoula in ages, I would love to meet him!
I'll check in Springfield for the mom-and-pop hotels as they sometimes allow pets.
Shelbie has a great idea re: posting pictures. We'll have to take lots and post them in photo-point for all to see!

I did not call any in springfield since it is long distance from me -though its only 20 minutes away. There should be quite a few there though, including Red Roof Inn, Holiday INN, etc..
Hopefully this link will lead you to the listing on yahoo of hotels within 15 miles of the park. If not, try this go to yahoo -yellow pages -travel and transportation -hotels and lodging - hotels and motels -make sure to change the address to that of the park.
