When I'm out for the evening, I feel bad for leaving Oscar alone if he's been alone all day and look forward to getting back home. It doesn't get in the way of having a good evening but am I nuts!

Of COURSE you're not nuts! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/nuts.gif You're just a dachsie mom! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif
Time to get Oscar a buddy. Then you can enjoy the movie without guilt!

I am the same way, no matter where I go or how long! I HATE leaving my baby!! I drive my kids crazy when I talk about it, they roll their eyes and say, "Oh, MOM." How silly! But I just can't help it. He gives me that sad-eyed look and he's just pitiful. How DO dachsie owners get over their separation anxiety??!! Otis's mommy, A.

Otis's mommy you sure did pin point it - we have separation anxiety!
I think it takes a true dog lover to understand this. Even people who own dogs are not necessarily dog lovers.

I thought feeling like this was normal. Do you know my husband and I have never been on vacation because I can't leave the dogs? Thank God he loves me!

Don't worry, you're not nuts. We should be reluctant to leave the house. Because this is when they do all their plotting and planning. Don't you notice how when you return they always give you licks up your nose and in your ears? This is to distract you from what they have done while you were away. Mine is very clever, I never figure out what it was he's done but I know it's something!

Tanya!
You mean we're not the only ones? I can't go on any vacation unless I have my housesitter (who MUST spend the night...not just check in once in awhile) "trained". Usually that includes a 4 page document! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/rolleyes.gif Yes, I'm obsessed with my dachsies but hey! They are my KIDZ!

I went away for the weekend last spring with my mom (our mother/daughter weekend) and drove her nuts telling her how much I missed Twix. I thought I was the only wacko out there who couldn't leave their dog. The people I work with get tired of looking at pictures of her and hearing stories. Sure am glad to know I am not the only dog crazy one in the bunch!!

I think people at work are tired of hearing Oscar stories too. I cant go to a store without passing threw the pet section. I dont always buy something but I have to atleast look!
Vacation is a real tough one. We went to Florida for a week back in May. I kept putting off making the plans because I didnt know if we would have to put Oscar in a kennel, luckily a friend stayed at our house with him. And we called everyday to check in!http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/circle.gif

A couple of years back, I went to France for three weeks. The dogs were placed securely at their sitter's house, where they sleep in bed with her, loll about on the sofa, play with her chihuahuas, and are generally spoiled beyond belief. I think they had a wonderful time, but after just a few days, I was desperate! I missed them SO much that I actually called the sitter from France, and I stopped every dachshund owner I encountered on the streets and mauled their puppies..... The friend I was traveling with could not believe it.... Hey! I'm in that crowd too! I tell "Wotan " stories at work and have his (not Frank's ) picture up in my classroom...
Last night I got so comfortable with my little dachsie hot water bottle that never gets cold, I actually slept on the couch all night!
I don't think I can leave him for too long either. If I ever travel again, I'm taking him with me...
Wienergal- I also gush over dachsies I see while running about town. They all have such neat faces and are so different from Wo I love to make comparisons.

I left Otis one week end so far for an out of town wedding. I left my sister-in-law a list a mile long and she still teases me! I asked her and my brother to stay because I couldn't imagine putting him in a kennel.
When we stayed at Gull Lake Resort this summer the brochure said,"The only resort left on Gull Lake to still accept pets." That's why we stayed there!
I'm already worried about an upcoming Florida vacation in April (7-10 days!). What WILL I do?! Travel used to be my favorite thing, now I have to figure out a way to bring Otis too!

I feel like dirt every day I go to work. Shenn comes home for lunch but, I don't come home until late during the week. I miss my pup all during work, I can stand it sometims.
I want to get him a friend soon so that there will someone to play with.

David, you are too funny! Why can't we all just win the lottery and stay home with our dachsies!! A.
