OK, I'm really confused! I'm having a really odd problem with slugs. Not only are they everywhere and leaving disgusting slime trails, but they are havin' sex on my back porch posts! I'm not kidding. I did not know slugs were so, how shall I say it, energetic. They wrap around each other and then hang from the post by their slime! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/sick.gif How do I get rid of them? Salt works great, but I would need lots as these things are coming to my yard in small herds!

Help!

mary (who is just barely holding her own under this very odd seige)

ick! Mary, that is so gross!! I think I recall PA posting something about a safe slug killer. Maybe you'd find it searching for "slug."

Hope you can remedy this problem soon.

Check for any slug killer where the active ingredient is Iron Phosphate. WorryFree & Sluggo are two brands that I know of.

It is fairly expensive ($7 for about a pint at WalMart), but you spread it so thinly that it lasts a long time. I live in the Pacific Northwest, & couldn't grow lettuce if my life depended on it. This spring was the first decent lettuce EVER! I think I used a tablespoonful in a 4x4 bed.

Iron Phosphate is not toxic to children or pets. I believe the only warning is if you get some in your eye to flush it out. Also, it is not ATTRACTIVE to pets like the other kind is (esp the kibble-like ones).

I have the most curious, inquisitive & NOSY pup in the world, & she shows absolutely no interest at all.

Ah, this is my territory! You can order the product mentioned, called "Escar-Go!" from www.gardens-alive.com. (http://www.gardens-alive.com.) It's a godsend--won't hurt your pups but kills the slugs. Never mind the cost--it WORKS.

(Salted one myself last night, just because I got so made to see him out there!)

You could always add chopped garlic, butter, salt to taste, and pop 'em into snail shells. Bake on 400 degrees for 15 mins and Voila! Sluggo Delight! Your grouchy neighbor or snoopy inlaw will never guess why you went all out in your best Tupperware to feed THEM

If you REALLY want to be mean, don't put it in the snail shells, just pipe it onto crackers with a bit of pimento on top.

I'm sorry, but; eeeeewwwww!!!! And I hate pimento too!

It's kinda cool in a really disgusting way to watch those little sluggy bodies shrivel under a rain of pure sodium hell!

Lisa, thanks for the link. I'll buy it just for the name . . . .my neighbor has the icky things chugging their way into her house! Yuck! Not what I want with my first cup 'o joe in the mornin'.
