Whoohooo im dancing on air... I am sitting here looking at one of the prettiest sets of little brown eyes the world has ever seen ... her name is Cassie shes is a rescue ... her owners boyfriend was beating on her so she called the shelter and they gave her my phone number she called a week ago ... and i wasnt sure she would call back but she did and BAM i just went and got her ... only thing is she has a little um if you want to call it baggage... *she may be preggers* they bred her mid aug. she said they tied (in her words got stuck togather) I still cant tell if she is preg. i pray for her sake she isnt... shes 10mos old ... sweetest personality ... shes reallly laid back ... whoohooo i could dance i worried about this dog all week along with duchess ... now shes sitting here safe and sound in a crate in the doggie room ...yes! yes! yes!! *doing a happy dance* Im gonna take her to the vet. tomorrow if they will squeeze her in ... im soooo excited even though i know she will only be here for a little while at least i know she is getting love and thats the important thing... as soon as we know shes not preg. i will have her spayed and i will find her a great home http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif I made her owner sign a bunch of papers for me ... i drew them up really quick she gave me full rights to the dog and if shes preg. to the puppies to she will not come and try to take them back. Wish me luck ... im soooooooo happy!!!

Well this girl will only be temp. im telling myself that at least. Im so happy to have her... i think i already know the perfect home for her now all i have to do is wait and make sure there are no stow away's. I hope the other dogs get along with her ok... i havent introduced her yet... (i always keep new dogs seperate from mine for about a week or until i get them into the vet.) Im gonna try to get her into my vet. later this afternoon for a check up and to see *IF* shes preggers he probably wont be able to tell either... but we will put her back on puppyfood and extra vitamins just in case for the next couple weeks.

Jen, I am soooo happy for you. I agree with Augie Dog, does this make 9? Either way, she is blessed to have you care about her so much. You give rescue such a good name and I thank you for your caring spirit. Cassie knows you will do your best for her. Keep us posted on the "stowaways"--great term, btw.

Yep sometimes i just dont know about ppl either WG ... seems a cruel thing to do ... doesnt make any sense either... but at least i have her now and her owners signature that she wont take her away or the pups if she has any. No i dont have a big house... im just a poor lil country girl ... i have only lived her in NC for 3yrs since i was 20 we just bought a tailer on 5 acres in the country we have fenced in 1 acre and we are in the process of dividing that area into 3 so that way we can keep the boys away from the girls while they are in heat. all 3 will connect to my house in different area's ... right now we have 3 doggie doors.. one in the dog room ... one in the kitchen and one in my bedroom they all lead out the the main yard. So the dogs can run in and out as they please... sometimes i think this is their house and they are just letting us rent a room ...payment being that we feed them ...lol Everywhere you look there dog toys, dog beds, dog crates or heck dogs!! Hehhee but i love it. One day we will build a house next door and this trailer will become the dogs house.... but the yard will always connect to the other house so they will be with us whenever they want. They love the country cuz they can bark as much as they want...lol http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

So... you live in a trailer with 8+1 dachsies and a schnauzer?! Aren't all of your babies still puppies? I feel like my 2 boys and their toys are always underfoot ... I can't imagine 10 of them swirling around. What fun you must have. Never a dull moment at Jen's house.

My dream is to own a lot of land in the country and to build a dog sanctuary. It sounds like you already have one!

Are you anywhere near Raleigh? I travel there for business sometimes and would LOVE to meet your crew.

I'm in awe.

Yep there is always a dachshunds or schnauzer to hold, cuddle and love ... they are rarely all inside at once ... unless its nasty outside they are usually out playing and running in the yard... but if they want to come in the just use their doggie doors and come in and out as they please. Once we save up enough money we will build a house for us next door... and we will give this trailer to the dachsies... kinda like a big doghouse.. only with central heat and air...lol but they will always be with us ... and come and go as the please. Thats one plus about country living...lol http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

Im about a hour from Raleigh ... maybe we can meet sometime .. i go to the mall there sometimes http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

How much rain did you get with tropical storm gordon 8DA?

~8DachsieAngels~
09-19-2000, 10:41 AM
I dont know exact totals but it rainned for about 36hrs strait Some points it was really hard... so im sure we got at least a couple inches. Nothing major though ... the suns out now... and the pups are in the yard chasing the birds ... Again! Poor Birdies

Jen, how's Cassie doing today? Any word yet on whether she's pregnant? (How soon can you tell with a dog? Another area in which I am clueless...)

WOW! I LOVE the idea of handing over your old house to your dogs when you're finished with it! VERY cool! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/cool.gif I think them's some lucky dachsies you have there...oh, and the schnauzer... You'll forgive me if I'm not too wild about the schnauzer right now, won't you?, since it was a schnauz attack that hurt Farfie's tail.... http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/crying.gif

Cassie is going good shes such a sweetie ... all she does is sit in my lap and lick me to death ... (I love it!!) The vet. says that she is showing signs very indictive of pregnancy ... so hes pretty sure she is preggers. He gave me some vitamens and told me to keep her on puppyfood. She has some worms he wormed her with something safe for the pups cant remember the name of it. He said she needs to put on about 2lbs shes kinda skinny .. but shes really playful ... when shes not in my lap... i will give her 2more days to get the icky wormies outta her system then i will let her in with the other dogs http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif Im debating weather or not to spay her now and just not let her have the pups... but its a hard decision .. i have gotten some good advice .. but i still have my reservations about it. I know there are already lots of dogs out there... but i cant help the way i feel ... i know sounds selfish huh? http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/frown.gif Penny my schnauzer girl is doing good... i can understand why you wouldnt like schnauzers at the moment poor Farfie http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/frown.gif Pennys not agressive at all.. not even when shes playing ... shes kinda dense if ya ask me ...lol kinda walks around with a look on her face like "im a dog" "im a dog" lol but shes sweet would hurt a flea.

Dontcha love my new nick...lol I went to change my email and for some reason it never would send me my pass so i made a new name ... im a junior member again ...lol http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

Jen,

Cassie sounds like a truly beautiful little girl. Thank you, Jen, for rescueing her. I just CAN NOT understand the mentality of ANYONE who would beat on something soooooo little and innocent. Bless your heart for taking her into your home.

I know i dont get how ppl can be so cruel to something that only give unconditional love and affection its beyond me Im just happy i have her now... even if i keep telling myself it will only be for a short time... i introduced her to the rest of the pack today (i know a day earlier than i said but she was lonely in the doggie room ) The girls love her the boys just kinda look at her like "oh boy not another one of these moody girls" LOL All seems to be going well ... gawd shes so cute she could pass for Rosies sister except she has a kink in her tail ... im gonna hate to give her up when it comes time... she is gonna go live with my hubbys cousin in va. as soon as she has her pups and they are weaned and everything ... shes gonna be one spoiled pup thats all i can say... doxies are getting to be like a cold in my family everybodys got one.. or 2 or wants 3...lol

Jen,
Congrats on your new baby (or babies, as the case may be)!! Thank you so much for your hard work! I don't know how you do it. It is something I have been interested in but don't feel I could give them up after having them for a while. I become soooo attached! Just out of curiosity, do you also work outside the home? Twix and I are just amazed at what you guys do and are so grateful!

Hi Teresa and Twix. I also feel as you do that I would hav eproblems giving the dogs up after bonding with them. However, I just thought that I would point out that there are so many ways to help with rescue groups. Personally, I got some advice from Shelley Davis of DRNA, but I do know there are others. You can do home checks, fundraising, shelter checks, find elligible fosters, transport, etc. I have since decided to volunteer for DRNA, and don't plan to do any fostering. The group was fine with this. They are happy to have help in any way they can find.

Just thought I would share because I had no idea there were other ways to help.

Good Luck there are serv. ppl on this board involved in rescue they will probably send ya some info... but im still waittin on mine sometimes with all the dachsies they get really busy so it may take some time http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

At the risk of sounding totally dumb...What is DRNA? I am really new to a lot of this dog stuff. I think that it is what I want to do though. I have always been a dog lover, but have never thought about making a life of it. I am considering going to school again and getting a degree in animal behavior. I think I would really like to get into dog training and train assistance dogs. I would love info on volunteering or some other way to get involved if anyone out there can help. I would truly love to rescue but don't think it is something I could do emotionally. Nor do I have the living arrangements for it. Anybody have any suggestions on where to start?

Teresa,

DRNA stands for Dachshund Rescue of North America another relatively new major rescue group is Coast to Coast Dachshund Rescue CCDR. You can find links to bother their home pages from http://www.drwp.net/index.html .

While not directly involved with either group it is my understanding that there were some differing views on some major issues that caused the CCDR members to spin off from DRNA this past year and form the new group. I think they both consist of very dedicated individuals. The only major complaint I've heard following the split is that at least one (possibly both groups) will not let volunteers be members of the other group. To me that is a crime and the groups should not feel that they are in completion with each other but should strive to work together when the need arises for the betterment of those in need. But then I've never been one to tolerate political squabbles.

I hope this information helps.

You are a doggie angel! When I was reading your home setup I got this impression of "101 Dachsies" with you saving the family from Cruella and her nasty henchmen!

I'm glad that you have such a wonderful hubby and family to help you out.

Hi Teresa,

There are many ways to help rescue. You don't have to foster to help. We love people who can help in many other ways. Shelter checks, homechecks, PR, fundraising are just a few ways to help. I would love to answer your questions if you e-mail me.

Tom is basically correct about DRNA and CCDR. We are all dedicated individuals who just had some differences in opinions. I and most other reps will not let these differences get in the way of rescue and we do work together whenever we can. I have nothing but admiration for my fellow rescuers regardless of what title we rescue under.

Teresa- e-mail me and we can talk. Anyone else who has an interest....Contact me!!!
