The mans name is Dan Fraher , Pontiac , Illinois. He goes to breeders pretending to want an adult dog for his family. He will even bring children with him. He says all the right things does all the right things. We all have adults that we are looking for just the right home for and he invariably Leaves with one. He will call you for weeks after wards telling how great the dog is doing. Then all of a sudden the dog runs away. He does not require AKC papers but will take them if he can get them. When we caught on to him he had accumulated 8 shepherds, 4 of which I reclaimed and got back to the original breeders. Another was
found running the streets of the worst part of Chicago was rescued by GERMAN SHEPHERD RESCUE . She was 25 lbs under weight., 2 inch nails and splayed feet from being chained out. Since she was micro chipped the
breeder was found and the bitch now is in a wonderful new home. I have the state of Illinois animal welfare department working on this but it goes slow. Shepherd rescue has heard of this man thru other rescue
leagues. Especially the Rotties. He collects the dogs sells them to gangs or companies who drop dogs off at factories and businesses for protection. if they don't protect they are dumped or use for training
pit bulls as there is big money in fighting dogs in this area. About 2 weeks ago the state inspector was at his house to check on him at which time he had 3 Japanese Chin and a Dalmatian. I would assume these breeds
are going to puppy mills . This man has been doing this for about 10 years with various breeds. Until the shepherd was rescued no one was able to prove anything but hopefully now we can. Still the charge will only be he is acting as a dog dealer with out a license. which will probably only mean a fine. So please put this out to any other breeds you can. He is slick and smooth and seems to out maneuver the law. And no one seems to care what happens to the dogs as long as he doesn't break the law.
