I'm sure there is already a post about this...but I couldn't find it...so I started a new one!!!

Okay Lillie has some rotten, awful breath! :eekdevil: Like it's really bad. My BF said something about it to me yesterday, and up until then I hadn't noticed anything. So are there puppy breath mints, or something that I could use to make it smell better??? I love her kisses and I really don't want my face smelling like her breath! But if there is nothing I can do...then my face will just have to smell...because I could never resist those wonderful doxie kisses!! :kiss2:

So if anyone has some advice for me..... :thank-you3: so much in advance!! You are very wonderful people!! :)

Yep... and I bought some from PetsMart :)
If she is teething and loosing those puppy teeth right now...it'll get better. Cocoa had that rotten bad breath when she was teething...then it went away when she got all her adult teeth in. :cheer:

I've never noticed any bad breath or odor in my pups - even when they were teething.

Just curious if maybe the food you are feeding is causing the problem. What do you feed Lillie?

I think I would be more interested in finding out the cause of her bad breath rather than try to cover it up.

Lots of :rayz: for some sweet kisses for you!! :)

Lillie eats science diet. I've been wanting to change to a more healthy food. But I just had a conversation about it the other day with my BF, and he's unfortunatly not wanting to budge for her. His parents have tried it all (different foods, that is), and their dogs don't like anything else, so he thinks Lillie is just like his parents dogs. Anyways, I have to agree though. I really don't want to just cover it up, and maybe if the food is the problem, BF will change his mind!!!

Here is another one of those situations: whose dog is it? Who cleans up the messes? (Do these guys give dogs to girls only under certain conditions?? She cleans up the messes and does the dirty work and he gets only the benefits??) Does BF want the dog to be healthy and smell good? If he's noticed the bad breath, why wouldn't he consider trying a better dog food?? My vet, whom I like quite well, also recommends Science Diet, and I've had dogs do just fine on it - but my current two furkids DON'T do well on it so I feed them Natural Balance, reduced calorie. No stinky breath (except when I give them sardines 2x a week)! Sounds like BF needs a little education - ask him to read "The Dog Food Project." Also please encourage him to read the labels on Science Diet!!! His parents' dogs are not Lillie. Perhaps his parents' dogs could use a higher quality food, too?! EVERY DOG IS DIFFERENT, just like people are different.

Perhaps if your face smelled bad from bad breath doggie kisses, that might change his mind about the food situation!? :)

Mia's Mom had a good idea, too, about a compromise.

(These guys who "give" girlfriends dogs, then insist that the dogs are raised THEIR way, really get my dander up!! Are there no trusting, open-minded, willing-to-learn guys out there??? Come on, guys, give your girlfriends a little credit for some common sense! They want the best for these little four-legged, lovable fur-beings you "gave" them - so give the ladies a break!) Oooops - sorry, grandma on her soap box again.

Jordan, how about negotiating a compromise? Can you both agree to buy ONE BAG OF PREMIUM FOOD and then when it's gone evaluate whether it has made enough difference to keep her on it? Can't hurt to propose this. Good luck and keep us posted.

(smooches to Lillie Kaye - I don't mind about the breath problem)

Sorry to say, but when it comes to Cooca's health and well being....I become a real...um....nit-picky person (I'll just leave it at that :D ) and will end up in an arguement with anyone who tells me that I'm doing wrong, just because they think their way is the only way. This board helped me so much and taught me things I just could never have done without them....EVEN THOUGH I have been around dogs since I was born. I trust the people on this board, experience is very important in my mind.

My bf knows that Cocoa is "our" dog, BUT...he also knows that I do what is best for her, and he leaves it at that. He is very supportive, and will ask "why" so he can learn too. He even looks at the ingredients in dog food bags and goes, "ok, so what am I looking for...ok that has by-products and says poultry fat....next...." haha he learned!

If I were you, I would sit down with him and tell him that you are becoming more experienced when it comes to these types of things and he should trust you. The compromise thing probably would work best if you want to avoide an arguement. :hi:

Oh yeah, and we had three dogs (one a champion show dog) on Science Diet and they all lived a very long and healthy life. But every dog is different, I would make sure she does not have an infection in the mouth...and then change the food (gradually). Good luck!!

Chewing on raw beef marrow bones has helped clean my dogs' teeth and has helped their breath considerably.

my oldest has had bad breath (death breath) sence we rescued him... we thought it was because of the food but we have tried all different brands. and nothing changed. we found out that his teeth were rotten and now he has only his canines and some back teeht but he STILL has bad breath...

Check her gums though... maybe that could be a cause.
