Well, I just got a note from his mommy! Wow! I had lost this lady's email and thought I'd never hear from him again! Here's what she says:

Dear Sandi: I thought you might want to hear how Rusty is doing these days.
He is one happy dog! You probably wouldn't recognize him...he looks like a
regular standard dashound. He is looking pretty slim and sleek!

Our vet put him on a prescription low-fat dog food, and he loves it! He
doesn't get to eat any people food, but he gets a dog biscuit after his walks.

He drags us out for a walk every night! My son and I take turns. When we
first got him, he could hardly make it around the block, but now he keeps up
a pretty good clip and we can go for quite a ways. He has his favorite
routes, and sometimes I tease him that we are going on a "sniff" instead of a
walk, because he wants to stop and sniff (and pee) so often. You know these
male dogs!

When he first came to live with us, he was very quiet...he would rarely
bark. Now, he knows it is 'his' yard, and he makes sure that anyone who
comes in to visit knows that! He will bark quite a lot at strangers or the
boys' friends, until they pet him and he gets to recognize them. He is a
real sweetheart.

Rusty sleeps in my bed when Tom isn't here, but on the weekends, Rusty knows
that he needs to sleep on the floor by the bed with his special blanket.
During the day, he will drag that blanket all over the house, and then flop
down somewhere to chew one of his rawhide bones.

Tom and Sam put in a dog door, and Rusty loves it, running in and out. It
has made it a lot easier on us, and for him, too. It is so funny to see him
poke his head out to see what the neighbors are doing, while his long body
remains inside the house! We are looking for another dog to keep him company.

Rusty is a wonderful dog. He really likes everyone in the family, but he
follows me around from room to room, and stays under my feet or on my lap, no
matter where I go. I think he is very grateful to be in a home where he is
loved, and I am very grateful to have him in my life.

Thank you again for making that possible.

I hope your holidays were wonderful, and you are having a great time with
your doxies.

Take care, Leslie

Awwwww - a forever home to be loved and cherished! That is so wonderful. <IMG SRC="http://dachsie.org/ubb/cwmsmilies/cwm12.gif" border=0> I can see him in my minds eye with his head out the doggie door and his long body inside. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif how cute is that! What personality.

Super story. Just imagine, without you, none of the happy ending would have come true.
Great work, Sandi. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/bounce.gif

Sandi,
Congratulations!! I know how proud you must be to have made a real difference. My first foster to be adopted (can't count Kibby since she stayed here) is about to go to her forever home. I hope she does as well as yours! Rena
