Everyone who owns a dachshund has probably expierienced the nasty smell of the patented dachsie frito foot. I've never had this problem with any other dog. Whenever Houdini gets a bath I always wash his feet and his pads real good to help but it only last for a few days. Also his pads get real dry and crusty is this normal? I've tried rubbing some non-scented sensitive skin lotion on them to help the drying....oh my i just realized how spoiled he is and what mind control he has me under:eekdevil:

I've heard the problem mentioned in some posts on DBB - but have never noticed any odor with my two.
I don't think it's normal for their pads to be dry and crusty. How old is your pup and what are you feeding him? How often are you bathing him? Might help solve the problem with more information.
Are you walking him on any really rough surfaces - or anything relating to places he goes that could be causing his paws to be like that? I see you are in Ohio. Must be snow and ice this time of year. Are you walking him on sidewalks that have been salted to melt the ice?
Sending :rayz: for your little guy to have his problems solved.

Psssst.....me too!
LOL
You could try using a more potent puppy shampoo for the feet. I wash Cocoa's feet about once every 1-2 weeks (just her feet) **IF** she has stepped in pee or poop. Since she is allowed on my couch and bed...I prefer clean feet! :D

Frito feet a problem??? Not here.. we likes those little Frito feets!!!
You may want to try some Bag Balm or something called Mushers magic (I think that's the name) if you are dealing with dry pads. The Bag Balm is found in any feed store or even online stores like Valley Vet or Jeffers

I am also a frito feet fan! :D The dried and cracked pads does not sound so nice for the pupper, tho. Bag balm would be my suggestion too. If you can't get to a farm/feed store to find some many pharmacies carry it. If it continues to be a problem you might ask your vet if it is an indication of a bigger problems such as allergies.

haha thanks for all the comments....i bath him once a month or more if he rolls in something and whatnot...yeah ive seen the balm for the feet on many sites so I will probably order some and massage his little pads because hes spoiled...he hasnt been outside in the snow or on the salt or anything so I dont know whats causing it. I feed him Bil-Jac Puppy food because I couldnt find anything else that didn't have all the wheat and corn and stuff in it. Is this brand ok??? I guess I will just have to deal with the frito foot....but not enjoy it like the rest of you do lol The people on this board are awesome but liking the friot foot thats just crazy :D

Once in a while Ally's feet will get a tad too fragrant for me so I bought some Nature's Miracle spray deodorant with conditioners. Seems to work pretty well for those in between baths.

:cheer: I am guilty also! I love me some frito feet! The balm on the dry pads will do wonders. IMO, the food u are feeding is not the best thing out there. If u do a search u will see plenty of threads on discussing food to feed your doxie. I use Nutro mini bites lamb and rice but some dogs have allergies to that also but it seems to work good for mine except my new puppy(I am changing to chicken and rice-for the allergies). Some people on here use Wellness or Raw and several other things. :D

I discovered that Daisy loves to burrow. I knew that Taffy liked being covered, but Daisy is a real trip, lol. She wrapped herself totally up in my big afghan last night with just her nose stuck out. So nice and warm....and of course, the Frito scent came up eventually. Fortunately, I like it. My half-asleep mind just says....puppy, ah.......

"I feed him Bil-Jac Puppy food because I couldnt find anything else that didn't have all the wheat and corn and stuff in it. Is this brand ok??? "
If I understand correctly, that's about the WORST possible dog food you can feed a puppy, or am I mistaken? Since I don't have puppies to worry about, I haven't even read the label on Bil-Jac, since I feed my two Natural Balance. Perhaps I am mistaken, and Bil-Jac Puppy food is okay?! Someone else can correct me on my assumption, if they know (which I'm sure someone else will!).
As far as Frito feet, my two don't seem to have any particular foot odor, lucky me!

Ahhhhhh but Frito-feets are part of the experience :loveshower:
But if you don't like it... there are fancy paw products in pet-store as this paw and fur balm:

I may be wrong, but I think there's "Frito Feet" and then there's "FRITO FEET".
All 3 of my girls have a slight Frito smell to their feet, but before I got Penny's allergies figured out she had a REALLY strong 'corn chip' odor - and not just her feet. I didn't think too much of it at the time, but once we switched her food over I noticed and appreciated the milder Frito smell!
For us, California Natural worked really well, but there are lots of other good foods out there, too.

This has nothing to do with feet.. but all this reminds me of when I lived in Orlando years ago. There was, probably still is, a Frito plant off of (if memory serves me right) John Young Parkway on the other side of hiway 441... I used to LOVE driving by there because it smelled so GOOD!!!

Frito Feet!!
We finally have a name!
When we lost our baby Amos I so missed the smell of his feet!
And Nugget didn't have that smell.......................until he got older!! I love sniffing his feet!! And Daisy finally got it too and I am cracking up that you all so got it! Fritos!! Frito feet!
I am so using that phrase around the house!
You all are the best!:party6:

Holly will get the frito feet while shes sleeping, but if she lays on her side and curls up so her feet are pressed into her belly she gets FRITO FEET. When she's not warm no smell, then the warmer she gets the more frito-y she gets. My first instinct was to say "mmmm, fritos" (insert homer simpson voice here). It's just one the the things I enjoy about my girls.

Frito Feetsies is an intoxication. And the Frito warm weenie dog smell is a delicacy. Nuthin better than lifting the covers while a smoothie is snuggled in sleeping and to take a DEEP breath to take in the smell of the warm weenie dog. I wish they made candles for warm weenie dog and frito feetsie, they would be burning all over my house :D The wires in my house do not reek quite as much of the frito feetsies as do the smoothies, but when sleeping and warm, the scent seems to linger.

I love it!!! and I love Isabel's Frito feet!
