Poor Dexter he has a bad Mutter he was being so very good letting me cut his nails with only a treat per foot and on the last foot I thought I'll cut this a little shorter (he has really long nails) because he is sitting so still, and out came the blood to short. He didn't even fuss. Luckly it wasn't to bad and the powder stoped it quickly. He is sitting on my lap as I type this so guess he has forgiven me. I feel so bad expecially since he was being so good, and it was totally my fault. I guess from now on back to just doing the very tips and leaving the nails on the long side.

yeah, they tend to blame the clippers and not momma! I did that once a while back and it made me cry but Wally act like what is all the fuss about?

The quick (blood supply) will recede with each trimming. So, if you trim often then you should be able to cut back more and more until they are a good length. I had to do this with one of my girls. She had horrible nails when I got her but I trimmed them every week until they were acceptable length.

I think every one of us has done that at one time or another. Now I let my vet's groomer be the "bad guy" and I avoid nail-trimming! I think it hurts me a lot more than it hurts them when I get a nail too short.!! :)

Dexter understands that mistakes happen! It's so easy to do, and it's kept me from clipping Bobbi's often enough. I just know I'm going to do the same thing!

Your sweetie will forgive you! I think they really do blame the clippers and not the hooman doing the clipping. Cracks me up.

I clipped Horace's nails for my very first time this last weekend. He did exceptionally well and we avoided the trauma he always suffers when I let strange people touch him. I was so proud of him.

I did get one a little too short though and he protested by biting the clippers' rubber handle. He shifted away from my thumb when he got a bit of it on first bite and gave that handle what-for!
