Tonight I emailed Allie's owner here in San Diego inquiring about her! It was just posted Saturday. I just HAD to do it, as I am looking for a Female around her age. I can't believe how much she looks like Freddie, her pic looks identical.
Her previous situation really saddens me as well as ****** me off! Allie was housed outside on concrete TIED up, without human contact!http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/mad.gif In addition, she was meant to be used strictly for Breeding; however she could not produce puppies and was spayed and sold!http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/mad.gif She probably came from a BYB!
I just went ahead and did it...emailed the current owner who rescued her, since they're close to me, and Allie really does seem like a sweet tempered dachsie (she gets along well with dogs and children, is very affectionate, and wants to please.http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif).
I just wonder about her health; she has bad hallatoses, but is currently being treated by a Vet. I wonder about her teeth? I asked LOTS of questions (even asked WHERE they got her from).
So, we shall see. Hopefully I'll get a response. I just know Allie will have no trouble finding a new home, so I acted FAST. I look at it this way, if it's meant to be, I'll get her. But, if it does happen, I think I'd like first introduce her and Freddie somewhere before making the commitment. Any suggestions?

Hi Amy, thanks! Well, Steve (current owner) promptly replied to my email, answering my questions. A few things about Allie; she eats her poop sometimes, potty's INside the house, despite her having access to outside via a patio door. These 2 issues bother me. I just now sent another "question filled" email with my honest feelings. I did mention that Freddie could probably teach her "where to go". I also mentioned about feeding good kibble, so that in time the "poop eating" hopefully would be history. I'm NOT rushing into this, I did stress too that I just want the dog to be in good health and disposition. Allie's gums were red and tender and had a few teeth pulled, but her mouth is 85% better now just in one month, but she still has halatosis. She's had tests performed, which came back negative. Shots are updated. I asked about Heartworms too.
I know I'm being "picky", but that's just me! We shall see.

If you do end up adopting Allie you want to feel 100% good about it, so do ask lots of questions. Good Luck!

Well, you have to be happy with your choice and feel like you know everything you can in order to be comfortable with the adoption, and I think that's just fine
My friends who work with Ralph have a new mini long hair foster girl with a bit of a bad back. Her name is Tootsie and she's apparently just a doll. She's about 8 years old and is a total love so far. How about a mini long hair http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/wink.gif

You are so right to set the standards that will work for you. This may be helpful:
When we adopted Baylea her breath would send you reeling! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/hapfac01.gif
After being able to eliminate any serious tummy or tooth problems, we decided perhaps it was her previous diet. Must have been, no more bad breath. Took a long time but it is gone.
As for house training, we just pretended she was a puppy and took it from there. About three weeks later with Greta's assistance, no more mistakes. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/bounce.gif

Well, I spoke with Allie's owners tonight (very nice!) and learned more. Seems that Allie may have an Autoimmune Disorder, which causes her bad breath to return. Also, she's on steroids for the rest of her life. SEE 'Autoimmune Disorder' ABOVE, I posted there too.
I'm hoping to meet them (with Freddie) this weekend to see how the dogs do.
Allie sure seems like a love bug with a sweet diposition, she's a laid back gal.http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif She would be good for Freddie.
I'm just taking this step by step, I just do not want to face heartbreak if Allie's health is of question!
So, what do ya think about the Autoimmune Disorder and steroids? BIG concern or not??

Well Allie has been placed with a new home! I just received an email from her former family. They are going to check up on her and stay in touch with her new family to see how she's doing. That says a lot about them.http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif
I was completely honest with them, in saying that I has reservations about her health status with the autoimmune disorder (even they did not know, nor the Vet at this point). I'm just not ready at this point in my life for a possible heartache down the road. She may be perfectly alright, but I didn't want to take the chance. Otherwise, she would have been a good "sister" for Freddie with her temperment and sweetness.http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif
I just applied with the 'Dachshund Rescue of San Diego'. So we'll see. I'm still keepin my eyes open.http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

Hi Susan,
Good luck with 'Dachshund Rescue of San Diego'. I know not taking little Allie had to be a hard decision. Not knowing how bad her condition may be would have been difficult. Going into an adoption knowing there is a greater possibility of a major emotional and finical crisis would be very difficult if not impossible for most people.
I hope you have good luck finding a new buddy for Freddie. Some how a dog in need seems to appear at the right time. Of course once they are in our house and heart few dogs would be not be the right one. In my case Aggie was there when I decided I was ready to get my first rescue and my first dog that I and not my parents owned. Exactly one week to the day after I lost Aggie a friend was at the shelter renewing her dogs license and spotted Frank. When she called and ask if it was too early to be looking I said it's never too early if the right dog is there. Then when Frank finally convinced me he needed a buddy and I filled out my DRNA adoption form it took less than 24 hours for Teresa to e-mail me and ask if I might be interested in Tanner. In less than a week Tanner had his new forever home after spending 2.5 months in a foster home. Of course the fact that Teresa knew me very well help make that adoption go very fast. No home visit was required prior to my being considered. I didn't have to go through the normal screening questions an unknown person should expect to have to answer. I just got an e-mail describing Tanner, exchanged some more e-mails asking questions about Tanner and finally getting an agreement that the first week would be a foster just in case he and Frank couldn't get along. By the third day after he and Tanner and Frank had started playing together on day two and Tanner got a clean bill of health from my vet on day two I told them Tanner had a new Forever home. I suspect I got a little special treatment being allowed the one week foster period but then I had been on a list to do possible short term fostering for some time.
Good luck things will work out.

Thanks Tom, yeah I guess it's true that it all works out in the end.http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif I don't know how much longer I want to wait for a "sister" for Freddie. I do know that I want a Female. So we'll see.
