View Full Version : Why isn't my dachsie a Florence Nightingale?

My mother's dachshund has snuggled with her through all sorts of health problems. My sister's dachsie insists on licking the nose of anyone who has a cold (disgusting, I know, but sweet!) Meanwhile I have the flu, with a fever of 101, and Annie keeps running up with every toy she has and yiping at me. "Surely you want to play with the SKUNK, Mom!" Her Dad has taken her for a walk--hope that drains off some of this energy!

Lisa,
Maybe I could send my Dolly Dollikers over to be your bed buddy. Nothing Miss Dollers likes better than to be under the covers right up against your legs. Maddie, on the otherhand, when she wants to get up, she wants me up too and tells me by draping herself on my neck and squeaking at me. She is very vocal. Hope Annie got wore out on her walk and is ready to give some serioud snuggles to mom.
Hope you feel better soon!

Maybe this is Annie's version of what Florence would do . . ."Hey, if you lay about feeling bad then you're going to feel bad. Soooo, get up and play and things will be fine, mom!"
Sorry you feel so yucky. I'm pretty lucky that my guys either snuggle or leave me alone when I'm hurting. Actually, I have a pit bull here (Quincy) who was a doctor in a previous life. He's the best snuggle-buddy when you're sick that you could ask for. Wanna borrow him?
Hope you feel better soon,

How old is Annie and does she like to cuddle at other times? She may associate play time as quality time with you and is trying to do what she thins you enjoy. Aggie never learned to enjoy cuddling but all the other dachsie's I have know would cuddle. Some will cuddle all day others will get bored and take breaks.
I hope you are feeling better soon.

Hi Lisa,
No dachsie story . . . just a "Get Well Soon" wish!

Posting "Get Well Wishes" just for you, Lisa. Being sick is never fun, except for the dachsies who do enjoy the extra snuggle time.http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/snooze.gif

Well, if you don't want to play with Skunkie, you must REALLY be sick!
Did you see that short bit on TV recently where a woman had come home from the hosp (cancer treatment) & was lying asleep on the couch? Her husband videoed the dog bringing all her toys over to the woman & carefully tucking them all around & over her. Like she was saying "There... they will make you safe & feeling better". Very cute.
I guess trying to stuff Skunkie up your nose isn't quite the same thing...

Thanks for all the good wishes, folks. I'm feeling a little bit better today. Penny's Aunt, that's such a wonderful story about the woman whose dog tucked her in with the toys! I know a similar story--I woman I know had cancer and was lying on her bed feeling sad one day, and the dog came over bearing her FAVORITE toy and put it in Mom's hand.
Annie's normally a good snuggler, and very sympathetic if you hurt yourself--when she hears a cry of pain she'll come running with a concerned look on her face. She seems impervious to illness, though. She did do her normal snuggling in bed last night, which has helpful. She was also very pleased by the bonus of nasty kleenexes she kept finding in the bed!
