For those of you who have been following the story of Oscar, and for those who were kind enough to give me advice, I just wanted to give you an update on how he's doing.

On Friday, we took Oscar to his forever home with my husband's mother.

With the exception of the diarrhea for a day or two, Oscar was just the BEST boy the whole week he was here. He really became a joy to have around the house! He even had his 1st Thanksgiving with us...yum!

He got the idea of pooping outside. I was afraid that he would have trouble with that, but he started going and I gave him treats each time he went so, he was more than happy to do it.

On the way down to MD, Oscar slept the entire time...3.5 hours. We walked into my mother-in-law's house and he greeted her with warm kisses. I think she fell in love instantly. I think they were a match made in heaven!

While we were down there, she got him a new cage and he slept with her in her room the first night. He settled right in and slept peacefully throughout the night. She got him some new toys and it seemed like he felt like he was a king in a new castle.

I still can't figure out WHY those original owners wanted to get rid of him. I think he's PERFECT!!! They didn't even seem like they cared about him at all. They didn't even want to say goodbye to him...they just let him walk out the door without a word...I just can't fathom that! The only thing that helps me make sense of it, is that God had a special plan in mind for this little guy...that he was going to be a special gift from God to my mother-in-law.

Anyway, things seem to be going really, really well with Oscar and his new mommy. I'm kind of glad that we only kept him for a week, because I was getting so attached to him myself, I KNOW I would have wanted to keep him. It was hard for me to leave him there. He is such a sweety pie.

I don't know how all you rescue folks foster and then give the dogs up to complete strangers...at least I'm sure of the great home he'll have with Chris' mom. I just don't know how you do it...but I certainly have a new respect for you and I'm so glad that you DO do it.

Thanks for all your help and concern!
Karen

Karen, what a great way to start the day--with Oscar's happy ending story! This worked out so well for all concerned--well, except for a few days of the runs... http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/sick.gif You did a wonderful thing for a great little dog. Great little dog has a happy new home. Your mother-in-law has a great little dog. And people who are incapable of appreciating a great little dog are now "dog-free." May they remain that way forever... And may Oscar and your mother-in-law enjoy many, many happy years together!

You done good, kiddo!! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/bounce.gif

Hi Karekn,

A big thank you to you, your husband and his mother for helping find a great forever home for this little guy who needed a second chance to enjoy life. Both my boys are second home boys with Frank being adopted from the local Humane Society and Tanner from Colorado Dachshund Rescue.

Karen!
Great update on Oscar. I love all my doggies, but my little Wo is definately the "child replacement" and therefore the one that gets all the lip kisses...(ah, that frito-y smell).

I really can't imagine how anyone could treat a doggie that way. I sometimes think God has gone on retreat when it comes to most people- but there must be special blessing for animals. Oscar is proof of that .

Big smiles,
Sonja and Wotan (and the hairy, smelly, drooly girls- who now have wrangled themselves into the warm house every night to sleep...)

Karen,

That is so kind of you to help Oscar.http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif Everyone is happy now, including Oscar! You know, maybe the reason WHY his original owners gave him up was because of the "potty issue", we all know how common that is, unfortunately. But still, like you said, they could have at least said goodbye to him. It's hard to understand.http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/frown.gif Anyhoo, I hope your Mother-inlaw and Oscar share many happy good years together. It certainly seems like a great match! A big 'thank you' to you Karen, I know you were pulling your hair out there for a while, but I know you NOW feel very satisfied! Please keep us tuned on Oscar, will you?
