My daughter and her husband own Topo Gigio - Buck's litter brother. They also have Chloe, a senior deaf rescue dog. And now!! little Sammy.
They stopped at PetSmart and there were all these kenneled dogs up for adoption. They took Sammy out of his kennel so my daughter could hold him. He's a min black and tan 10# dachsie - 8 1/2 years old.
Well - her hubby said he's adorable - but no more dogs. When your Mom is here with her two - we already have five dogs in the house. Soooo they left. Something about Sammie touched her heart and she talked to hubby and said she wanted to fill out adoption papers and if it was meant to be - no one will have adopted him yet. She did - they called her and said that they would all be there the following week and after they checked everything out and it was ok - they could take Sammie home.
Guess it was meant to be - cause Sammy is in his new Forever Home now.
Soooo the funny part - I emailed her some pictures I had of Buck's mommy and daddy (Lady and Blizzard) and also Oscar's mommy and daddy (Codie and Ruger). She was at the computer looking at the first picture and said to hubby - "Oh Honey - come and look at this. (It was Buck's daddy as a baby). Of course hubby had no idea that I had sent the pictures to her.
He came and looked and said "Oh no - stop it!! No more dogs!!!" He thought she was looking online for more adoptions. :D
If you knew him - you would know he is the sweetest, kindest guy who loves animals and it was him in fact who found Chloe at that same adoption place - but Chloe was not out with the other dogs...She was in the van - all matted and dirty and I guess they just assumed no one would want to adopt a senior, deaf dog.
He saw her in there and asked them to bring her out - called home and said "I found this mangy looking deaf dog and I want to bring her home". They gave Chloe to them for free. They took her right to the groomer and she's been with them ever since. She's his baby and he just loves her so much.
Sammy was a breeder's dog and became useless to him - so he was dumped into a shelter. I haven't met him yet - but hear he is a loving little man who wants to be held and be with them all the time. He loves FOOD and treats!! He is doing great with crate training and is bonding with Topo and playing like a puppy now. At first he didn't know how to play with toys or how to play with Topo. Chloe is too old to play, but she doesn't mind if the other ones do. :)
They will all be here the week of 4th of July and I'll have pictures to post. :hearts:
