We have little Sweetie and Cosmo safe and sound in NC as of about 9pm lastnight. The rescue went without a hitch. I left for Rockhill about 4pm yesterday, i called the owners when i got to Charlotte and arranged to meet them at a gas station about 5minutes from their house. She pulled up in her car and there were the 2 sweetest faces peeking out the window at me... i was in love. She signed the dogs over to me (the woman was really upset seems her hubby was making her get rid of her dogs she cried and cried it broke my heart... i would have left him and kept the dogs) anyway after all that was behind us i put both puppers in the back seat as she said they HATED the crate well not 2 seconds and they were on my lap in the front set. We needless to say these guys are NOT mini's i had about 50lbs on my lap at once. Cosmo looked out the window from Rockhill all the way to Burlington (about 2hrs) he was nervous and a little shakey but sweet none the less. Sweetie snuggled up on my lap and took a nap she could have cared less where we were going she is a very laid back super sweet girl. When we got to Burlington I met Jennifer at a local Cracker Barrel. Jennifer you are sooooooo cool thank you so much for helping with these guys dont know what would have happened to them had you not taken them!! We took some pictures said our good byes and believe me it was hard even though i only had them for 2hrs i cried all the way back to my house. These dogs are very special i hope they find the PERFECT home, but im sure Jennifer and Best Friends adoptions will make sure of that. They had to spend the night at the vets lastnight to get all their shots etc. they both had heartworm tests Cosmo is neg. but Sweetie showed a low pos. so they are gonna retest i will let Jennifer fill you in more on the vet visit. Just please say some prayers for these guys because they have no idea whats happening to them. Well anyways i have rambled long enough. Heres a couple pictures that we took lastnight. They are both camera shy...lol
Sweetie is the red longhair (slightly overweight lil girl)
Cosmo is the studly handsome blk/tan

Thank you so much Jen for rescuing these sweetie dachsies!! It was great to meet you!
They are so beautiful and so sweet. They both slept on my lap while I was driving home last night. Cosmo was shaking, but as long as he was buried in my neck he seemed better. I am also in love!!
I was pretty upset last night about the hw positive for Sweetie. Especailly after the tough time we had with Betty going through the treatment. I am fostering Sweetie. Husband had originally agreed to short term foster her for a few weeks (pretty sure she would be placed within that time since we have several homes approved looking for small dogs in Best Friends). So, he has agreed that she can stay with us through the treatment. Makes sense especially since we are now "experienced" with hw treatment. And we are the only people in BF experienced in HW that can foster right now. Hoping that the retest shows she neg, but the vet said not to get my hopes up. I'm hoping that if she is pos that she will have a much easier time than Betty.
Now, the real challenge will be, can I keep a really sweet dachsie for 2 months, nurse her through hw treatment and not keep her for myself?

Jen and Jennifer,
Great work! These two are adorable!
Jennifer, don't worry about the h/w treatment. If she is showing up a low positive, she will do fine. We have so many doxies here in FL that come in h/w positive, and the Immiticide treatment is very safe especially if they are not in the late stages. I am sure Sweetie will be ok, and you are familiar with the treatment which is a plus too.
Cosmo is just beautiful! Who will be fostering him? Did these two need to be placed together??
Keep us posted!!

Cosmo is being fostered by another Best Friends foster family. He's being neutered today. The only way Best Friends could take them was by putting them into 2 foster families cuz we are so full and both me and the other family could only take one.
We'd like to place them together. We're going to see how they do separated in their foster families and make the call then about if they have to be placed to together or if it would be nice to place them together.

Happy tears are flowing.
I am so glad you two were able to get them safely in rescue. What dolls they are....I wish I could take them all home and love them.
Thanks ladies! Great big hugs and pats on the back for both of you!

Aren't you guys wonderful. I would have gotten rid of the husband first. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif I once had a landlord who decided after I lived there 2 years with my dog Junior that I should put Junior up for adoption to "a good home where someone was home all day." I told her he already had a good home and if I were home all day I wouldn't be able to pay the rent. I also told her a few other things but I'm too much of a lady to repeat them http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif. PS I also and found another place to live.

I'm with Lanie and Jen: Dump the hub, keep the dogs. What kind of spouse "makes" you get rid of your dogs? A BAD one. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/stubborn.gif
They are really beautiful dogs, especially Cosmo! Great job, you two! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/spotting.gif

What a sweet looking pair. I hope they can be placed in a new forever home together. I know that isn't always possible but I'm sure they would miss each other especially if they ended up as only dogs. You have to wonder how much longer that couple's marriage will last.
I was wondering if it's just this area or a nationwide trend but for years men were associated with large breed dogs and women with small breeds. In this area at least it appears that trend is being reversed. I'm seeing more and more single men with small dogs and single women with large dogs. I can't explain this unless the women are seeing their dogs as protectors and we men are filling an affection gap with our little buddies. On another side note I've seen studies that indicate people who were raised with pets make better parents.
