Hi all I am pretty new. Zipper just got neutered and he is doing great. They also gave him some flea stuff that kills fleas in 20 mins. and then frontline. All of a sudden fleas were here. We live in San Diego in the mountains. I wondered what others do for fleas? I use to use advantage. And do you all use outdoor stuff? Anyways I hope that neutering zipper doesn't change him. He was already very mello. Never lifted his leg once inside or on leash. He doesn't bark and is a dream come true. Let me know if you all have had any changes after neutering. I have only owned him 1 month. He is 1 yr and 4 mos. old. Piebald. cutie.

:welcome2: Welcome to DBB!!:welcome2:

Good for Zipper!! A few :rayz: :rayz: for him to keep up the good work. Both mine are neutered too.

Here is a flea repellent recipe that was posted on DBB by one of our great members. I saved it. Went shopping and bought a couple of lemons and our Publix store has an herb section near the salads and I got a nice pack of fresh rosemary. It smells wonderful sitting on the counter. I'm going to brew it up this afternoon. I plan to spray it on my little men and on myself.. :)

Homemade Bug Repellent Recipe (courtesy of the Texas Collie Rescue Group)

Take a LARGE lemon and slice it paper thin. Put the slices into a bowl with a tablespoon of crushed rosemary leaves (or a 6 inch sprig of fresh rosemary). Pour over the top of this a quart of hot, nearly boiling, water. Let this steep overnight, then strain and put into a large spritzer bottle (note: buy a new spray bottle for this, don't reuse something that held household cleaning chemicals)

Shake well before applying, and keep it in the refrigerator when not in use.

The d-lemeone in this spray along with the rosemary oil will give your dog a beautiful shiny coat and keep fleas and other bugs away, including mosquitoes.

Use the spray at least twice a week during the summer months to keep the scent on the coat to repel bugs, and spray it around your doors and carpets.

As an all natural product, it is also safe for humans to use, but as always, keep it away from children who may want to taste the lemony contents.

wow sounds good I will go to store today. I will try anything. Don't want the summer to be uncomfortable. :)

Hi there! Well done on neutering Zipper - we noticed no differences at all with both our boys after their ops. Regarding flea prevention: we used Frontline in South Africa and it worked very well; since we've been in Canada we have used Advantage and no sign of them as yet, horrid little hoppers...

:welcome: :welcome: :welcome: to the most addictive board on the 'net! So glad you decided to join - PLEASE post pictures!

I trust Frontline for fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes, and in Texas, we have plenty of all! I haven't had much success with homemade remedies, but please try it and let me know how well it works. I'd rather not use Frontline if I can avoid it.

Again :welcome8: to you and Zipper. And THANK YOU for having him neutered! I am guardian to two rescue furkids, Jack and Lexie, and volunteer as much as possible for CTDR, a dacshie rescue organization in Texas.

:cheer: for Zipper and getting neutered, shouldn't make any difference in his behavior. Sounds like Zipper is a wonderful dog. Would love to see some pictures of him.

hi I don't know how to post photos, don't see anything on this message I am typing but I can learn. I see some of the ones on here move like a movie etc. I don't have cable so I can't view some of the movies.

Good job on getting him snipped, he will be a better pupper for it. I am going to have to try that recipe for the fleas. I have not had a problem yet that flea shampoo hasn't taken care of, but the season is heating up and I don't want to take any chances. Plus, I'm not to fond of putting chemicals on mine but that is just me. I tried some before, can't remember the name but his back stayed smelly and oily for days. I am going to have to try it this weekend. Hey anything to help him smell better after he comes in from being outside with that dog outdoor smell.

Here is my standard blurb on posting pics in a thread. I hope it helps!

Posting pictures is really easy once you get the hang of it. First you will need to join a free picture hosting site. I have found that www.photobucket is the easiest to use. Upload your pictures to there. Each picture will have three choices underneath it, click on the bottom one which is the IMG link. Right click and copy the link. Come back to the DBB and start your thread and where you want to insert the picture, right click and paste! Simple as that! They may show up really large here, and if they do go back to photobucket and click on the edit button above the picture, scroll down a little and you will see the resize option. Click on 50% and it will resize it for you. In order for you to actually see the change in the DBB you have to hit the refresh button on your browser. The image will then show up as the smaller size. Sometimes there is a delay in the change so don’t resize it again or you will end up with a really small picture.

Here is how to post pictures in your gallery:

When you pull up your gallery, to the right of the gallery name is an edit button, click on that. Scroll down and you will see Browse for image files to upload: and a Browse button. Click on Browse and find the photo on your computer that you want to add. Then click on add and submit more or done.

Remember: Your largest dimensions should be no more than 600 PIXELS wide by 400 pixels tall so you may need to use a photo program to resize your pics. If either dimension is larger, your picture won't upload. There is a 50K size limit in the gallery.

I belong to webshots.com and have lots of albums there, but I looked and there wasn't an img on bottom. I have them saved to my hard drive too. I think that is how i put them in my gallery. But when you want to post here it makes me put http? or url. oh well I guess I will figure it out someday .. thanks for your help

Those are great photos, what a wonderful lifestyle - Zipper is adorable!

What you can do to post a single image here on the DBB is to open the pic full-size in Webshots (look for the 'view full-size' button), and then copy the entire url (the http:/etc. bit) and place it between and in your post, like this:
