View Full Version : Tenderness around nail after clipping?

Ever since we clipped Max's nails last night he has been compulsively licking his right front paw. If we try to examine it, he acts like it is too tender to even be touched. He really hates having anyone come near his feet with clippers and is the "drama king" of nail clipping, but this is the first time we have seen him do this. Most likely, I clipped too closely -- Any suggestions on what we could do to help the tenderness? Or, anything we should watch out for?
Thanks!

You probably cut just a little too close. If there was no blood, you didn't actually injure the nail, but if the nerve is very close to the surface, it might be like a dull ache and very tender.

I would say watch that he doesn't lick it raw, take it easy with the walking for a day and keep him on soft grass avoiding tar and concrete.

Oh, and he told me to let you know he will need extra kisses and lots of extra treats :)
