http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/chatter.gif Hi, I just registered to this wonderful list -- I am "owned" by one spoiled dachsie, "Penny" -- a one year old long haired red mini dachsie -- who I am sure doesn't know she is a canine, but thinks she is human. I love this list -- it is so informative!! I live in Canada (Central) all my children are grown and gone, so Penny is my husband and my "kid" -- and she acts like it to!!
I am really looking forward to corresponding with other dachsie lovers!

Thanks so much for the warm welcome guys -- Penny and I appreciate your kind words. Just a few questions, are all mini longhairs as devoted and loving as my Penny?/ She never lets me out of her sight and if I have to go out she crys for me at the door until I return. I am never sitting down without her on my lap or at my side or feet. She is truly a sweetheart! Also, I kind of expected her to be more hyper -- you know what they say about small dogs, but she is very laid back, only is excitable when someone comes to the door but once they are in and she sees they are o.k. she settles right down and is friendly to them.
I took her to the lake this past weekend, took her into the water with me and put her in gently -- she was not impressed -- she swam back to shore, she seemed to be struggling to swim (it wasn't real deep) so I didn't force her back in -- she definitely isn't a water baby!!!
Tonight we were watching that movie "MY Dog Skip" (quite good really) and she was so funny, she was on my lap, actually watching the movie and every time "skip" came on, she growled at him. It was really hilarious!
Well, I've bent your ears enough I guess, hey Sue -- glad there is another Canadian among us -- whereabouts in Canada are you?
Shar :-)

Hi Shar and Penny!
Wotan is my spoiled boy. One thing I've learned about dachsies is that they are big dogs in little doggie suits.
They think big, and most aren't the nervous nelly types, though they are pretty protective of their people and homes!
Wotan is always "connected" to me also. In fact, I wouldn't want it any other way http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif
Welcome!

Hello again, eh?
I'm in Toronto. Where are you?
I've heard that long-hairs are much more mellow than smooths. Look at the 'coats and colours' section - I think there was a discussion lately about the personalities of the different sizes and coat types.

I'm in Manitoba, just north of Wpg. in the country. Well, if mini long hairs are supposed to be mellow, Penny sure fits the bill - her idea of a great afternoon is taking a nap with her "mom" in the waterbed!
