Hello everyone on the dachshund board. I'm still dachshundless, but I'm getting Badger on Monday and I can't wait. He's a ten week old mini black/tan boy that I got from Tal-Le-Ho Dachshunds and he's a total cutie. I've been reading up on daschunds to be ready for my new baby. The advice and conversations that go on on this board is great.
As for the name, Badger is one of my favorite character in The Adventures of Mr. Toad and hey dachshund means "badger dog," how could I resist? http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/ksmile.gif Anyway, I know I'll probably have many questions about my upcoming baby, so I'll be writing again.

We have been spoiling our 2 new female mini dachies for almost a week now. Hannah is our red 8 week old, and Lady is our black/tan 10 week old. We have only had them a week, but cannot imagine our live without them!http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/love.gif

Can't wait to hear your stories as well.

Augie barks hello!

Aug is just 5 months, and our lives have been changed a lot! He's a 14 lb red tweeine.

OK, gotta ask, where do you THINK your pup is going to sleep?

Thank you everyone for welcoming me. Augie Mom, I have a crate that he'll use to sleep in. Probably I'll break down and he'll sleep on the bed though http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/love.gif. I do want to know if I have to wait till he's six months old before I take him to dog parks and such. Thanks.

It's Augie's Daddy http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif

Aug is 5 months now, started walking in the parks at 3 months. I wanted him to get used to meeting new people and puppers right away. I started out with small walks, more sniffing around than walking! He now will effortlessly do a 5k hike cross country! Now Aug is a big boy, 15lbs at 5 months and very lean. He accepts new people, places and puppers.

I started him on puppy chow, then Owen's Mom's posts made me look at the lable. YUCK! Feeding Innova now, just starting a bit of the BARF diet too. BARF is a little scary at first but Aug seems to love it.

Sorry, I can go on and on about Son-of-Mine!

Augies Mom, Isn't there a chance that Badger's vaccines won't have taken by three months so by taking him to dog parks is exposing him risk? I am going to take him over to my fiance's grandma's house to play with her kitten. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif Thanks.

Never heard that vacc. take long to work. Vet never said anything. Anyone else hear this?

I manage a vet hospital and with a puppy you need to have at least 2 sets of vaccines on board before you expose them to public places and other animals, just so that there is time for there immunity to build up, as for animals over a year old the vaccines take effect almost immediately except fo bordatella which needs close to a week to be strongly effective.

Cool, thanks for the info, Mary. I think he's already had two sets of vaccines and I'll wait till he has cone or two more before I take him to heavily populated dog areas.
