Just found this site and thought I would say Hi, I live in Florida and foster home for Daschund Rescue of North America. I just sent my last foster off to his new home a couple of days ago and looking forward to some more, I have had as many as 6 foster dogs at once and it makes for a full house, but tons of fun...Along with these guys I also have 4 doxies of my own, Miss Piggy, my spoiled one, a little mini black and tan, who has "additude", Ginger and Heidi two red smooth mini seniors I adopted when their owners were getting divorced, and Splash a silver dapple smooth tweenie male who came back to me from an adoptive home because he started to have seizures there. Two cats and 4 gopher tortises who live in the back yard.(they eat the cats food) and drive the dogs nuts, I am sure I will enjoy this board and looking forward to meeting all.

my 2 seniors sleep a lot, under anything they can burrow thru, have to always check before we sit. the other 2 spend thier time chasing turtles and playing.
Splash, my silver dapple came back to me when he started having seizures in his adopted home, we learned he is a VERY intensely emotional guy, and apparently this is what triggers his seizures, he gets attached to people or buddy doxies, namely the dogs I foster, so when one of his buddies leaves for thier forever home he starts seizing again , Lucky left last weekend for his new home and Splash had a seizure that evening, the first in over a month, and then another this morning, so we are starting him on phenobarb. Poor little guy looks so sad when it happens, I hated to put him on medication but its for the best.
And Miss Piggy. my mini black and tan is so spoiled, her new thing is to crawl down inside the necklines of my shirts(while they are on me) and burrow in to sleep, I call her my wart.. Its amazing what these guys get away with isnt it. Sure dosnt let life get boring..actually these guys are my salvation, I was injured at work 2 years ago, ruptured 3 disc in my back and havent worked since, life was getting really boringhttp://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/blue02.gif around here until I found the DRNA site and volunteered to foster, its a very rewarding thing to do and no work involved, just a lot of fun...http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/bounce.gifhttp://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/bounce.gifhttp://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/bounce.gif

Welcome Sleepinweinerranch!!!!
I'm sorry to hear about splash and his problem. I will be sure to let Lucky know when he arrives on Saturday from his long journey north. I hope everything else is going well and I'm glad you found this board.

Hey !!!!!!!
I bet you guys are getting anxious, its getting close, give him a big hug when you get him, he and splash were buddies and I think when lucky left splash got anxious and seized, hes such an intense little guy, but he will be ok, so dont worry about him, Im sure he will get attached to the next one I get to if they play together, Miss Piggy thinks its beneath her to rough house and the geriatric 2 dont do much but sleep so Im looking for a young one for him to play with again..got several maybe coming up from south Fla to chose from. And let me tell you Lucky loves to play so you better break out the squeaky toys, haha
Let me know when lucky gets there, We miss him and hope he has a good trip

We have a whole little toy chest of squeaky toys, plus Kristie has made it out and bought some brand new ones just for him, We have been on edge for the past couple of weeks and are just so excited that it is only a day or so away. I hope Lucky and Brownie get along ok and she wrestles with me all the time so we will see what happens. I will make sure after they get together to take some pics and post them so you can check them out. I'm glad we will be able to keep in contact now and share some stories because I think now with 2 doxies in the house I might need some help!!!http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif

did I hear right, you guys are thinking of fostering also...good deal, you will really enjoy it, you get some really sad little guys in(and its soooo tempting to keep them all) but it is so rewarding to see these little guys that were maybe starved or abused and see them start to bloom and really show thier personality. Just like Lucky, he was so frail when I got him I was afraid to pick him up, and now hes a ruff and tumble, healthy love bug, as you will find out,(he could still stand to gain maybe a pound or 2) After you have him curled up on your lap, try to figure how that woman could have left him tied to a tree with no food and water...and how much it shows his wonderful personality to still, after all that, be as sweet and friendly as he is,
it just totally amazes me. makes you want to go tie that woman to a tree for a week or so, so she knows what it feels like.
I am sure he will like your doxie, he didnt like big dogs, I think they maybe intimidated him, but he loves other doxies and loves to run and play, just give him a couple of days to adjust and I am sure he will be fine. I would gather all the toys from all over the house and put them in a basket, he and splash would run over and in 2 minutes have them all over the house again, no point in trying to pick them up, those 2 nuts would watch me do it so they could grab them and run .
I would love to see pictures and know what you think of him when you get him, From what I hear Ginger really loves him. I am sorry it has taken so long to get him up to you, I know you guys had to be disappointed when the run was called off, I know I was. but hes worth waiting for and you get him now when, saturday.. thats only 2 days now. so its getting close. Have fun with him hes a sweetie, everyone who has met him has just fallen in love with him, I called him the velcro dog because he would crawl up in my lap and stick himself to me and start to work them eyes.. he had it down pat..silly dog, give him a hug for me when you get him
