Hello to everyone from me and my little dog Callie! Callie is also known as Frank and 'Hoon (because my son thought that "hoon" sounded like a nickname for "dachshund" http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif He will be 5 next month.

Callie came to us by way of another family. We got him when he was 1 1/2 years old. He is a shorthaired, red dog. Of course he has the most lovable personality in the world!

We didn't know anything about dachshunds when we got Callie. We knew to try to keep his weight down because of possible back problems in the future. Unfortunately, the future is now. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/frown.gif

I found this site while doing research on dachshund back problems after he was diagnosed with herniated disks. So far, he's not paralyzed, but he doesn't seem to be getting any better, either. Doc has him on prednisone for the inflammation and etogesic for the pain. He's on strict confinment, too. Doc says he's not a candidate for surgery unless he's totally paralyzed. We're keeping our eyes open for all possible treatments to discuss with Callie's doctor.

Right now, Callie is curled up by the side of my bed on his favorite pillow, burrowed down into his favorite blankets. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

Glad I found this place! I look forward to chatting with everyone!

Hey Lynne and Callie, welcome!
If you will scroll through members, you will soon be able to tell who the writers are by the # of posts.
We expect you to keep up with the standards we (ashamedly) have set.http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/emb.gif
So good to have you here. Hope Callie's problem turns out to be no more than a slight aggravation.

Welcome Lynn and Callie! We look forward to hearing about Callie and seeing a picture of her. I am owned (and how) by a 10 month old piebald named Lili Marlene.

Good luck with the back thing......I think all dachsie parents have a fear of this dreaded occurance.

Hi Kaye,

Anywhere in Michigan counts! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

All our kids eat Nutro Natural Choice for the kibble part of their food, which has Glucosomine and Chondroitin in it and the two Mini WH's get a supplement from the Vet of Glucosomine/Creatin (Synovcre is the name). Only the "Natural Choice" in the Nutro food has it.

We figure it's good prevententive for them and our Catahoula as this large breed is susceptible to Hip problems as they age.

Since we take Glucosomine ourselves, we know how much it helps. http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif
