Just wanted to say hello to all and say that our "baby" mini dachshund had his 19th birthday in July and he is still going strong. Of course he is very spoiled and very much loved. He is a special part of our family.

hi again. yes there are lots and lots of stories about our "puppy".his name is Kritter and he loved to play soccer and football. he is retired from sports now. loved to open Christmas and Birthday presents and still tries his best. when he sleeps at night he has his head on my neck all night.makes for a rough nights sleep sometimes. how can you say no to him at his age. i am so glad to find this sight. Dachshunds are wonderful dogs.

Welcome aboard Wiporwil. I had a little guy that lived to be 18 when I was a kid!
I understand about sleeping on your neck. I have one (1 of 5) that sleeps on my neck or head. We just got two new 5mos boys (brothers) (rescue). They were going to sleep in their own kennel we set up. That lasted 2 nights. Now I have 5 in our bed.
Love them all!

hi everyone. the secret to old age is Lots and Lots of LOVE and keeping him as healthy and happy (letting him rule the house) Kritter was never the type of dog to go outside without his chain or without someone with him. He has a pampered life and will continue to have one. also never lived near a busy road. we tell him that he is a puppy and not an "old dog" maybe that is what keeps him young. but mainly a whole lot of hugs.kisses and love.

Hi there and welcome:
Your experience would certainly be an incentive for those who may have doubts about adopting an older rescue.
It also makes me feel great about the possible longevity of our two, Greta and Baylea.
Way to go Kritter! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/jacks.gif

Welcome Wiporwil,
Glad to have you on board! I am a new member, also. I was reading your first post and laughed when you said that Kritter likes to sleep on your head. I have two mini-Dachs and Sasha likes to crawl up around my head and curl her body around it. Rody likes to sleep at my feet. Whenever I sit down in my recliner, they get into their same positions every time. Daschsunds are so funny, I couldn't live without mine. They are 14 weeks old now, and I will do my best to keep them around for at least 19 years!!!!!
