Hi everyone, I am a new member to the Dachsie Bullentin. It has been awhile since I have posted on a dachsie forum and I miss it. I have a red male smoothie named Reuben who will be one year old September 30th. We have been getting along just wonderfully since our housebreaking days. I love Reuben dearly and we are looking forward to hearing about all of your precious ones out there!

Hi -
We are new members also. your pup will be one on Sept. 30th? Stella blue's birthday was today. she is one year old. She is a smooth mini blue and tan dapple. Did you make it through housebreaking? We haven't completed it yet. She does pretty well, she still has accidents every day. Any advise? What did you do? Hope to hear from you soon.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY STELLA BLUE! I hope you had a fabulous 1st Birthday!! Reuben is 99% housetrained. He will still potty in the house if allowed on a rainy day. He absolutely hates the rain. I literally have to push him out the back door to go. Up until the age of 7 months he peed or poop in the house just about everyday. I thought I was gonna losemy mind and home at the same time. Finally I had enough and decided to keep him on his leash at all times. He was not allowed free run of the house no more. Someone in the family had to hold him at all times and take him out every hour. Finally things got better, I am not sure when or what was exactly the key, but all of a sudden it clicked with him. Now I am not gonna claim he is a saint, because every once in a while we find a little surprise under my sons bed. Reuben thinks it is his special hiding place, but we check it frequently! Hang in there it is all worth it!!

Hi and welcome, fellow new member Sue and Reu. I want to touch on the potty training, as Otis does so well. I was beginning to wonder... Now, at five and one-half months old we haven't had a wetting accident for about one month and he started pooping outside even earlier (it's been since about three months old). He hates the rain too, but I would try to find him a little shelter and keep putting him back in the spot over and over and over... I always give him a treat and say, Good boy go potty OUTSIDE. When he had an accident, I would act very angry and say SHAME on you! They are so smart and don't want you mad at them.
Sue, I am forty years old and I have three sons, ages 12, 14, and 20, all at home. They love their new little brother, Otis, but he's definitely a mommy's boy. Isn't it great fun? I never realized how attached I would get two a puppy, even though I grew up with two dachsies. Have a great day!

Thanks for making me feel welcome, "A". Otis sounds like a sweetie. Reuben is a mommy's boy too! It is funny how dachsies seem to really attach themselves to one person.
We all fight over Reuben's attention here at home. At one time I was seriously considering getting a second dachsie, (still pondering) because everyone wanted Reuben to sit in their lap at night! I was re-thinking that I should have signed in under the name "Reuben Rules!"

Hi Sue and Reu! This is A. Thanks for checking out Otis. Believe me, Otis would not be on the Web, had it not been for the college course I took. (A Web page was required). Other than that, I'm pretty new at all this. I love looking at all the photos, too. They are all so unique. (also in personalities.
