I'm sorry - I had previously posted this in Miscellaneous!

What a wonderful board this is! I'm Cindy, 32, and a newbie to Doxies. I'm a Corporate Marketing Manager for a large Cable company which serves the NY tri-state area.

I'm married to a wonderful man named Rich, and our 1st anniversary just passed 6/3. Our hobbies are cars, horses, cooking and dollhouses.

We are proud parents of a 10 mo. black and tan shorthair dapple named Wobbles. Rich wanted a bulldog, and I wanted a Great Dane - as a compromise, we got something completely different!!!!

We had to get a puppy, since our other baby is Rocky, a domesticated squirrel! The two get along really well. Rocky and Wobbles have so much fun chasing and antagonizing each other! Although sometimes Wobbles is a bully - he really likes having someone smaller than him to pick on!

We are hoping to get another pup, and are looking for breeders in our area. Our dreams are for a female longhair, either piebald or double dapple.

I would love to meet other members in the northern/central NJ area - please do introduce yourselves!

Cindy:

I'm in central New Jersey (Plainfield). My name is Lisa and I live with my husband Mark and our 4-year-old mini long-haired dachsie Annie. How did you come to have a squirrel? Does he actually live in the house? And I love the name Wobbles, by the way!

Hi! So glad to "meet" you! I live in Cedar Knolls, not far from Plainfield! If you like, e-mail me to exchange phone #'s! I would love to hear more about your little baby!

About 3 years ago, Rich was blowing leaves from a yard with a ride-on machine. A leaf blew off of little Rocky, just in the nick of time or he would have been run over! Rich brought the little guy home, who's eyes were still shut, and I bottle fed him. One day, I checked his cage to see that his eyes had opened - so I was the first "mommie" he saw! So, Rocky either thinks he's human, or I'm a squirrel!

Rocky lives in our house, and loves to get his armpits and belly rubbed! He also enjoys wrestling with Beanie Babies and stirring up trouble with Wobbles! The two of them together are KOOKY!

Many people ask us if Rocky has been to the vet - yes he has! He does not have rabies, and we are legally allowed to keep him; his jaw is deformed from falling out of the tree. He could not survive in the wild.

Hi there, Cindy!

Welcome fellow NJ dachsie owner! Im in Bound Brook, pretty close to Georgette. I am, like you, a HUGE fan of the Dapple variety, and I have a 6 month old ( this friday!!) Dapple female long hair named Opal . She is a joy every day to be with and anyone who meets her seems to agree.

I can't wait to meet Wobbles. I hope you can stop by the Dachsie day get together. I bet Wobbles and Opal will become friends.

PS...

I am also familiar with having Squirrels as pets, my friend rehabs them in her home and has some as pets. They only seem to like One person, and think of that person as their "tree". Is Rocky like that? I raise fancy rats as pets, and have for four years. I am getting out of that hobby soon though. I also collect Snow domes, hence the name, Snorodent..http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif

I just can't get over how GREAT this board is!

Stacey-
Our Rocky likes anyone who will pet and play with him! One thing tho, if someone does not like squirrels, he can sense it.

You are getting a new pup this Friday? Who did you get it from & how much $$$ - if you don't mind me asking! I'm so excited for you!

I am pretty sure I will be going to the doxie day - it just depends on how far away it is. Rich and I are always busy doing work on our home, and I hope to get some things accomplished this weekend. I would really like to go, because I have many questions that would fill up this site if I were to post them all!

I like rats too! I like any kind of rodent! hee hee! When the sad day comes that we don't have Rocky anymore, I'd really like to get a Prairie Dog!

Hi and welcome! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/jacks.gif

Seems more than one member of our BB has been a squirrel Mommy. Many years ago, in No. Calif., I raised an orphan ground squirrel, appropiatedly named Digger.

I had a bl/t mini girl, Freida, at the time. Digger slept and ate in a very, very large hamster cage. As he matured he learned to work the latch on the door.

I was never sure Freida was "playing" as she chased him around for hours on end. Since it was his decision to "let the games begin", I figured he didn't feel really threatened by Freida.

When he was about 4 years old, my _then_ husband decided Digger had to go. He had found a way to get into our dressers and enjoyed chewing holes in hubby's tee shirts.

I took him to a Wildlife Refuge where I am sure he lived out his life happily playing with other squirrels.http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/love.gif

Freida and I sure missed that little guy. Much more than I ever missed the husband when _he_ was no longer a part of my life.http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/lol.gif

I got Opal from a woman named Kathleen. Her doxie Kennel if you want to call it that, was "Madkap". She isnt breeding another litter for quite some time, but I can contact her to point me in a direction for you to get a good quality one. I found her after 4 months of research. She had a litter of wire and a litter of long dapples and B and T. THey have all been sold but I will write her and report back to you...

Just wanted to say welcome. I'm Shirley, from NH, and am owned by Nikki, a mini smooth b/t little girl, and maybe someone else tomorrow. We are meeting a rescue contact tomorrow who has a 10 month old sable LH, so we will see. This is a really great list. I just joined myself, and boy are people nice.
