We acquired our first dachshund on Easter Sunday and I just found this board. I never thought a little weiner could absolutely steal my heart. Now whenever I see another dog I hope it is a doxie. My little baby girl is a long hair miniature and my kids named her Grace. She is precious and sweet, if I could just get her totally housebroken (something I've heard is quite challenging with this breed), but we love her anyway.http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/chatter.gif http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/chatter.gif

Welcome! This is a great board, full of nice people with a lot of information. How old is little Grace? Don't worry, they CAN be housetrained, it just seems to take longer than with other breeds. We made a breakthrough with Annie when we started giving her treats for peeing outdoors. I don't know how we would have conveyed to her how important this was if we hadn't used food to do it!

Welcome to the board - we look forward to hearing about your baby. The housebreaking issue seems to be a common one. I think we're the ones becoming trained rather than our babies but that's o.k. too. Ya gotta love 'em.

Hi and a big welcome to you and Grace. Doxies can be challenging to housebreak but their cuteness makes up for their stubborness!!!! You might find some tips under the "Housebreaking" section. If you have any questions please ask away!!!! Welcome aboard!!

Thanks for the welcome. Grace is 4 months old, I forgot to mention that earlier. I mentioned the housebreaking problem..funny thing is last night she scratched at the door because she could hear kids outside playing, but when she had to pee she went in my room. Wah.

I take her out frequently and when she does her business outside I tell her "Good girl" and pet her---Maybe treats would work. The thing is she knows she is to go outside, but she doesn't always want to.

Thanks for the welcome I look forward to hearing about other doxies and sharing my tails, oops tales with you too.
