Hello, I am a newbie to this bulletin board. I just discovered it today! My name is Kandi and I have two darling mini doxies. The male is a brindle and his name is Sparky. The female is Elektra and she is a piebald. I can't begin to say how much fun we have had with these two pups and two little boys. They are both barely over 1 year and cuter than cute. We are considering breeding Elektra and would love direction from you guys out there! Thanks,

Welcome to the board!
I am owned by 2 neutered males, Rudy and Roscoe. Rudy is a 2 year old(dark) red smooth mini and Roscoe is a 1 year old Black and Tan smooth "tweenie" (he's a tweenie because he weighs over 11 pounds and under 16 pounds which are the weight limits for minis and standards).
As for Breeding, well you will need to consider it very carefully, as good breeding is not easy to do. You will need to wait until she is 2 years old. You will need to research her pedigree for at least 5 generations and make sure that their were no back problems or genetic diseases in her background. You will need to have her health tested, and all potential mates as well. You will need to have a good judge of dachshund conformation evaluate her to see if she is a good canidate for breeding. You should be working with her either in the show ring, obedience trials, field trials, earth dog tests, or other arena of competition to prove her. All that and much more, if you want to do it right. The only good reason to breed is to improve the breed, which takes time, effort, money, and research. The way to get started is to have a reputable breeder who really knows their stuff mentor you through the process.

Welcome Kandi, Sparky and Electra!
I'm looking forward to hearing about some of the adventures you must have with your 2 dachsies and your 2 boys!

welcome to the board, and definitely research the breeding before you decide. if she comes from good blood lines, with no genetic defects in her history, it may be possible to breed her. there are a LOT of things that can go wrong, and sometimes doxies need c-secs. One of the most important things is to reasearch and be prepared for things going wrong. The byb in my neighborhood loses a lot of pups and sometimes the mommies don't make it through the delivery and i'm not implying you are a byb, just that lots of things can go wrong. welcome and good luck, Shay and the doxie girls, Jaz and Ginger
Hi Kandi,
I just had to write to welcome you and your two furbabies. I also have a piebald. She is a red piebald and her name is Maggie. She is 10 weeks old today. I would love to see pictures of your two lovies.
Lots of Puppy Huggs and Kisses

Hi Kandi and welcome to the board. We are owned by 2 neutered males, Rusty (red, mini, 13 mo. old) and Duffer (b/t, mini, 8 mo. old). We've found that our Duffer is extremely good with kids but Rusty does not do well with the little ones. Unfortunately we did not know much about byb and that's where we got Rusty from. He has some definite behavior and emotional probs that we attribute to his birth situation. Learned a lot from the board and when we got Duffer we bought from a reputable breeder and what a difference betweem the 2 of them. I agree that if people plan to breed then it's so important to know their stuff before they do. It truly is the dog that suffers from bad breeding. But enough of that!! I sure look forward to hearing about your two little ones - both typeshttp://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/smile.gif And pics are always welcome too. Rusty and Duffer send you and yours welcoming wet daschie kisses.
Kathy
