If you want to take a look at little Eli, the starving dachshund in Colorado you can check out the photo's at: Eli's Photo Page (http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=1252843&a=9262318)
Warning in the first photo you can see just how bad his ribs are showing. The second shows his sweet face.

The fact he is still alive is a miracle in itself.

Tom I read that he wasn't expected to make it through the weekend. Any news today? We're all praying for him.

So far no new news. I know our rescue people are very busy so I'll most likely wait till Tuesday to ask for a status update if I don't hear anything new. I'll post as soon as I know any thing.

The pictures are worse then I thought. My 5 year old son saw me looking at them and he asked what was wrong because I was crying. I explained to him that some people are very mean to animals and Eli's family never fed him. My son replied " I wish we could keep all the doggie's like Eli and feed them when ever they want food". I told him if we could , we would. But for now we will say special prayers for Eli.

Away from the computer yesterday--hard to return to these sad stories. When Arnold was rescued, he looked exactly like Eli, and he DID make it, so I am hopeful. Tube feeding kept him alive until he was able to take in small amounts of food by mouth. When he came to stay with me, he was so withdrawn and sad and still needed hand feeding. Now he is 21 pounds of extremely happy, mischievous, loving dachshund. Arnold joins me in sending many, many rayzzzzzz to poor Eli.

Too sad. I must have missed his story...did his owners do this or was he a stray? How old is he? I guess I will never understand how people can be so cruel to another living being. Eli looks much worse than the pictures of Harley another starved dachsie from Ohio). You can see Harley on the DRNA web page under Thoughts and Prayers. Very sad, but I have hope for Eli. I send love and healing rayz to Eli.

I just got that e-mail too. This is just too sad. Eli's rescuer will let us know if letters are needed for the criminal complaint against Eli's "owners." I know that this board will respond as it has in the past.

Sorry for the short post. I was so upset and I'm at work. Let me know and I will surely write a letter! Hopefully Eli is happy now and playing at the bridge with my Punkin.

My heart is just breaking folks. First Duchess now little Eli. May God bless him as he crosses the bridge.
It is just so hard to stand by and let this happen.....I'm so angry that someone would deliberately starve their dog.
Please keep me informed on a possible letter writing campaign.

WHY??????? Why does this have to happen. When I look at the photos of Eli I do not understand how people can stand by and let this dog not eat. It is a slow and painful death.
I am so angry, please keep us posted on what will become of his owners. They BETTER be brought DOWN for this. JUSTICE has to be done by ELI!
God rest his little soul.

Poor,poor Eli.
At least he went out with love and caring and this had to count towards something for it was written that his little boney tail did wag...
I cannot express my disgust and anger at those owners who starved this animal. I don't care what the "excuses" will be in the end, anything we choose to take into our lives whether children, dogs or plants deserve the best we can offer during the time they are with us.
I do see Eli at the Bridge, abuse and neglect all healed away. He's waiting for one of those Rscuers to take him and a few others over .One day, perhaps his soul will transform into a Celestial Being or have another try at teaching those humans about trust, compassion and endurance.
I also know, those people who so cruelly caused this to happen will live their final moments with horrible scenes passing before their eyes, then to what is in store for them.

I just dont see how some ppl can be so cruel to something so small and innocent ... all they ask for is unconditional love... makes me sick when i see stories like this because their must be something we can do to stop it! http://dachsie.org/ubb/smilies/frown.gif

I saw the post about Eli's death last night. I just didn't think I had any more tears to cry; how wrong I was. May God bless you and keep you, Little Eli. And may your gentle dachsie spirit never be forgotten.
I'm not a praying woman, folks, but I will surely pray and do so quite hard and deeply that the "owners" of both Eli and Duchess, when faced with their own imminent deaths, will be shown how their cruelty to these gentle beings has had reprecussions around these states. May God not have mercy on them!
Good-bye, Gentle Eli! May your time at the Bridge be full of food and gentle love. You have a friend in my Digger and Miss Kai.
Dachsie hugs to all---mary

It's funny how you can care about, cry, and grieve for a dog that you've never met. I cry everytime I read this post. It makes me so sad to know that he didn't know the joy of love until the very end. And it makes me so angry. How could someone do that? So many wonderful people work so hard to find homes for doggies and then awful people like this do horrible things. I hope that the legal system will punish them severly. And it gives me satisifaction to know that they will pay the price when they leave this world.
I know that for me, whenever I hear of story like this or Duchess I think of my two rescued puppers and know that either of them could have ended up in a home with awful cruel people that could have done such a thing. I know that alot of people would have put my sweet Betty girl down because of the heartworms and I say a prayer everyday that I adopted her not someone else.
I volunteer with a mixed breed rescue and often have to make decisons about if we let someone adopt one of our dogs. I worry so much that I have made the right decision and not adopted one of our doggies to someone horrible like this. I know that you can only make the best decision based on the info that you have (references, vet call, etc), but it scares me so much that there are people that would do this.

One more time we will have to look to the courts to impose the harshest punishment possible. It will never make up for Eli's suffering but if we can keep raising the stakes legally, it may (may) prevent the continual repeat of these awful crimes against the helpless.
Heartsick for Eli,

what I don't understand is why do people take dogs (or anything else) into their lives if they don't want to take care of them?? It would have been so easy just to find him a loving home. It's so horrible to read things like this. Eli looked so precious too. I really hope the law cracks down on those awful owners!
