I was going to makes some agility jumps for my boys but wasn't sure how high the bars should be! Any info would be greatly appreciated!

8 inches is the regular class for dogs in AKC who are 10..soon to be 11 inches... at the shoulder. 4 inches is the 'preferred' class height. I believe NAADAC is the same. That is the height to the top on the bar, So when you make your support 'cups' to hold the cross bar in place make sure you take the height of the crossbar itself into consideration. I drilled both upright bars and used screws with washers and nuts as the 'cups' to hold the bar. It's important to remember not to make the cross bar fixed... you want the bar to come off if they don't clear it. This is a good 'how to' link with pictures http://www.dogplay.com/Activities/Agility/barjump.html

Thanks Karen! I figure I will start with jumps and then add a few pieces at a time.

Jumps are easy to make and lots of fun! Yes, NADAC is 8" for dogs less than 11" in the performance class and 4" for skilled. However, there is also a 4" height reduction for dachshunds and some other breeds like corgis. Therefore you can choose to let your dachshund jump 4 or 8". Lucy prefers 8, so that is what she jumps. She steps over the 4" jumps rather than running.
